Hey You Sugar! Get Away From Me Now

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science

Hey You Sugar! Get Away From Me Now
If you have a sweet tooth, it is difficult to keep off sugars. However, there are innumerable health benefits of keep a tab on the sugars you consume. With every spoon, we add 5-10 grams of direct sugar to our blood.

Here are 5 practical ways to beat your sugar habit:

1) Pick right desserts: Have ripe fruits to fulfil your sugar craving instead of sweets, chocolate, kheer, or puddings – which have artificially added sugars in huge quantities.

2) Dilute your sweet drinks: Canned juices or fruit drinks send lot of sugar inside you without your notice. Dilute it with some water to save yourself from all of it going in.

3) Mind your cereals: Frosted flakes of cereal in breakfast packs are high on sugar content. Replace them with humble oats or the salty ones.

4) Skip flavored dairy products: Most flavoured dairy products like milk, yogurts, lassi etc have lots of sugar in it. Go for the plain variety.

5) Cut your beverages: There are two ways to implement this. First, cut the number of beverages like tea, coffee, coke etc. that you take on daily basis. Second, adopt the sugar less variety.

What are the symptoms for dengue fever? And what are the precautions to be taken?

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
What are the symptoms for dengue fever? And what are the precautions to be taken?
The principal symptoms of dengue are: -high fever and at least two of the following: -severe headache -severe eye pain (behind eyes) -joint pain -muscle and/or bone pain -rash -mild bleeding manifestation (nose or gum bleed, petechiae, or easy bruising) Watch for warning signs as temperature declines 3 to 5 days after symptoms/fever began, as this is the most dangerous period when platelet counts decline significantly. Report immediately to hospital if any of the following warning signs appear: -severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting -red spots or patches on the skin -bleeding from nose or gums -vomiting blood -black, tarry stools  -drowsiness or irritability -pale, cold, or clammy skin -difficulty breathing There is no specific medication for treatment of a dengue infection. -Use analgesics with acetaminophen (crocin or dolo -650 mg) and avoid those containing ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin or aspirin containing drugs. -Take rest, drink plenty of fluids like coconut water, lime water etc.to prevent dehydration. -Avoid visiting heavily populated residential areas, if possible. -Use mosquito repellents/mosquito nets when indoors.  -When outdoors, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants tucked into socks.

Vitamin E

Vitamin e

Vitamin e is key for strong immunity and healthy skin and eyes. In recent years, vitamin e supplements have become popular as antioxidants. These are substances that protect cells from damage. However, the risks and benefits of taking vitamin e supplements are still unclear.

Why do people take vitamin e:
Many people use vitamin e supplements in the hopes that the vitamin's antioxidant properties will prevent or treat disease. But studies of vitamin e for preventing cancer, heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's disease, cataracts, and many other conditions have been inconclusive.

So far, the only established benefits of vitamin e supplements are in people who have an actual deficiency. Vitamin e deficiencies are rare. They're more likely to people who have diseases, such as digestive problems and cystic fibrosis. People on very low-fat diets may also have low levels of vitamin e.

The recommended dietary allowance (rda) includes the vitamin e you get from both the food you eat and any supplements you take.

Category

Vitamin e (alpha-tocopherol): recommended dietary allowance (rda)
In milligrams (mg) and international units (iu)

Children

Females

Breastfeeding

19 mg/day (28.5 iu)

Males

14 years and up

15 mg/day (22.4 iu)

The tolerable upper intake levels of a supplement are the highest amount that most people can take safely. Higher doses might be used to treat vitamin e deficiencies. But you should never take more unless a doctor says so.

Good sources of vitamin e include:
Vegetable oils
Green leafy vegetables, like spinach
Fortified cereals and other foods
Eggs
Nuts

Risks of taking vitamin e:

The risks and benefits of taking vitamin e are still unclear. Long-term use (over 10 years) of vitamin e has been linked to an increase in stroke.

In addition, an analysis of clinical trials found patients who took either synthetic vitamin e or natural vitamin e in doses of 400 iu per day -- or higher -- had an increased risk of dying from all causes, which seems to increase even more at higher doses. Cardiovascular studies also suggest that patients with diabetes or cardiovascular disease who take natural vitamin e at 400 iu per day have an increased risk of heart failure and heart failure-related hospitalization.

Vitamin e supplements might be harmful when taken in early pregnancy. One study found that women who took vitamin e supplementation during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy had a 1.7 to nine-fold increase in congenital heart defects. The exact amount of vitamin e supplements used by pregnant women in this study is unknown.

A large population study showed that men using a multivitamin more than seven times per week in conjunction with a separate vitamin e supplement actually had a significantly increased risk of developing prostate cancer.

After reading your problem it seems that you have chronic sinusitis. There are very good medicines in ayurved and panchakarma will also help. Consult any good ayurvedic hospital near by. By the time follow this- avoid cold drinks, junk and fermented food, dairy products specially curd. Avoid banana and citrus fruits. Take steam inhalation for continuous 7 days, gargals with salt and turmeric powder added in warm water. Take a pinch of turmeric powder in 1/2 cup water and drink at night for 5 days. Take 5-7 tulasi leaves daily morning. Whenever possible drink warm water 3-4 times in a day. Regards.

Dr. Kv I know it is my behavioural addiction masturbation addiction. But I can't control myself anyway what can I do?...
If you want to stop masturbating do not look at porn & get your mind off of it. If you still get the urge to, ignore it for a about 15 minutes & it'll go away. Masturbating from time to time is completely normal for a guy. Relax and try to concentrate on your studies and/or sports that you are good at. That will help you to avoiding thinking about sex all the time.

No instant medication as you think is there and controlling diabetes is long term procedure. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. NO how come cancer comes in between masturbation and erectile dysfunction... Natural aphrodisiacs can improve your libido and prevent premature ejaculation. This would include carrots, fennel seeds, celery, bananas, garlic, onion, ginger, shellfish, lettuce etc. - Including these foods in your daily diet will ensure that you remain free from sexual problems, including premature ejaculation.
