Lybrate-user ji I think you have some injury to your knee while playing. First of all stop playing kabbadi. Give rest to your knee. And take some analgesics. Hopefully you should be alright in a week or so.

Acupuncture and Pain Management

MD - Acupuncture, Ph.D Advance Course in Acupunctre
Acupuncturist, Chennai
Acupuncture and Pain Management

Acupuncture is a kind of therapy that combines needles with pressure and pain points in order to delicately apply pressure for pain relief. This form of physical therapy is being increasingly recognised as an efficient method of treating pain in joints, muscles, bones and even for migraine pain. So let us find out more about Acupuncture and pain management.

  1. Chronic or Long Term Pain: There are many ailments that cause chronic or long term pain. These include back pain, neck pain, stiffness in the joints, osteoarthritis, headache and migraine, and pain in the shoulders. All this can be treated over a long period of time with the help of simulated acupuncture which uses pointed apparatus for activating better blood circulation for overall improvement in the pain that is being experienced in the area. The use of this apparatus helps in avoiding the harmful medication that can have adverse side effects.
  2. Menstrual Cramps: A fine needle method at the right points can help in bringing down the symptoms of the painful condition called dysmenorrhoea during menstrual cycles. With acupuncture, the acupuncturist can administer acupoint therapy to relieve menstrual cramps. This will help in moving the qi, or life force, in a better way so that the pain will stop.
  3. Acute Pain: Over use of muscles, joints and repetitive, work related movements and strain can lead to acute pain. This includes wrist pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain, back pain, lower back pain, neck pain and even leg pain. With acupuncture, the patient gets rid of the pain in close to twelve sittings.
  4. Pain due to Cancer Treatment: Cancer and its treatment can take a heavy toll on the body and lead to a series of complications which also includes pain. A clean needle procedure can be followed along with the chemotherapy and radiation or after it, so as to relieve the patient of the pain experienced. Also, it can be used to replace traditional chemotherapy and radiation.
  5. Better Rest: When the needles or apparatus touch the pressure points and circulate the blood and life force, it actually creates a soothing effect and helps the patient sleep and get better rest. This is also a requirement for pain relief. It can bring better blood flow to the area and help in removing anxiety and stress related to pain so that there is better chance of getting rest.

With the use of acupuncture, pain can be taken care of with the needles and various tools that come in various shapes. These tools and equipment can also use laser treatment along with the point focused treatment.

Self suffering from frozen shoulder since a year. Ultrasound therapy has also been made at a renowned hospital near my home. Free hand exercise has also continuing as suggested by an orthopedic doctor. But still pain is existing in my arms upto wrist, shoulder and upper back portion of my body. As such, medical advice is solicited for quick relief without any injection.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Frozen shoulder or adhesive capsulitis is a condition in which shoulder movements get progressively decreased, it is commonly associated with diabetes although association with other conditions is also known. Treatment includes intensive physical therapy, short course anti inflammatory medications according to one's suitability and maintenance of calcium/ vitamin d metabolism. Normally pain subsides over period of time, ultrasound may not help much but regular exercises meant for this condition are helpful. Only medical advice if you do not want injections is to take a short course of anti inflammatory / analgesic medication but mainstay will remain physical therapy and sometimes injections. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hello dear, you seem to have a complete gr. 3 acl tear, as shown by the mri, which is now a days a very common injury sustained while playing games like football or involving a fall etc. Nowadays treatment for this type of injury is fairly simple and it involves an arthroscopic acl reconstruction using tendon grafts from your own thigh muscles, namely the semitendinosus and the gracilis muscles. After the surgery you will be pain free and be able to resume your day to day activities within 5-6 weeks time and return to sports and other activities in about 6-9 months time. Hope this helps.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am dr akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. I would actually need to understand your current neurological status but it seems a complete spinal cord injury because you are taking care of your bladder and bowel as well. Unfortunately there is no scientifically proven remedy for complete spinal cord injuries as yet, mainstay remains intensive physical therapy, wheelchair mobilization and supportive medications. But you can be independent for sure for most of your jobs, there is a centre in new delhi by the name of indian spinal injuries center which gives training for this. Maybe you can contact them and undergo further rehab there. Thanks & regards Dr Akshay Kumar Saxena

My tailbone pains a lot while I sit. This started when I sat continuously for 6 hrs on a chair.

MBBS, MD - Anaesthesiology, FIPM, Fellowship in palliative medicine, certificate in interventional pain management
Pain Management Specialist, Pune
My tailbone pains a lot while I sit. This started when I sat continuously for 6 hrs on a chair.
You might be suffering from coccydynia. In this condition there is inflammation of tailbone (coccyx) making it difficult to sit on butt and sleeping on back. Generally coccydynia will resolve with conservative treatment as mentioned below. In severe cases an injection called Ganglion Impar block might be needed. This is done by a Pain specialist in operation theatre under X Ray guidance to locate the accurate pain transmitting nerve. 1. Take anti inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen round the clock for pain relief and decreasing the inflammation for few days. 2. Sitting on specially designed gel-filled cushions can reduce pain when you are sitting down. 3.You can also lean forward in your seat and rest your arms in front of you on a flat surface. 4. Clothing such as tight jeans or trousers, may make your coccydynia worse. 5. It can also help to wear flat, comfortable shoes. 6. Patients with coccydynia find sleeping on their sides most comfortable. If you have severe pain, you may sleep on your front. You could also try sleeping with a pillow or cushion between your knees. 7. Warm and cold packs – applying either a warm or cold pack to the base of your spine.
