Diagnosing Low Libido!

Diagnosing Low Libido

The key to establishing low libido is how you feel about your level of sexual desire If you’re not happy with the level of sexualdesire you’re feeling, talk about it with your doctor.

There are three areas of your health that could affect libido and that your doctor will explore to diagnose the problem:

Low Libido Factor No. 1:

  • Physical Health A physical exam is needed because medical conditions like arthritis, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic diseases can lead to a decreased libido in men or women One patient with the digestive disorder celiac disease felt discomfort during sexbecause of pressure on her inflamed colon.
  • Sex-specific problems, Any vaginal pain during sex is both abnormal and can affect libido, and should be evaluated by your doctor. Female patients will be asked about any vaginal discharge, which could be a sign of infection that may, in turn, cause low libido.
  • Antidepressants, birth control pills, and even antihistamines can cause low libido.

sexual dysfunctionLow Libido Factor No. 2:

  • Relationship and Emotional Concerns The following can all dampen sex drive:·
  • Relationship problems·
  • Stress — a huge libido-buster·
  • Depression·
  •  Anxiety Body image and self-image can also play a role.
  • Some women with children have a hard time being a mother during the day and a sexual being at night.

Low Libido Factor No. 3:

  • Hormone Levels Research has found that men who have higher free testosterone levels (the amount of testosterone that’s circulating in the blood) have a higher sex drive.
  • free testosterone has a significant impact on both sex drive and erectile function.Hormone levels in women, especially when they decline during menopause, are notorious for wreaking havoc on sex drive.
  • Lower estrogen levels after menopause in and of themselves can cause dryness andvaginal pain, which can lead to low libido.  also asks her patients if they’re experiencing hot flashes and sleep problems due to menopause. If so, the resulting chronic fatigue could be the root cause of low libido.
  •  blood tests to check a patient’s levels of estrogen, progesterone, testosterone.

 Assessing Low Libido-

Perhaps the most important point your doctor should know is if you have always had low libido or if it is a new problem. If you’ve always had a low level of sexual desire, you may have a sexual dysfunction called hypoactive sexual desire disorder.

Doctors will rule out other causes such as depression, hormone changes, and medical conditions before diagnosing thissexual dysfunction.

Am 26 weeks of pregnant, I was 65kg when I conceive baby, now am 83KG I have put up about 20kg, which is very abnormal. Am not having sugar, BP or thyroid. However I was a fat from my childhood, I have reduced my weight being in diet and exercise. Now am not able to do diet or exercise my body is not co-operating. Am so worried about my weight and feeling stressed, how can I overcome this. Will I loose my weight after my delivery. Or what can I do for this, please help

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Hye. This is not the time now to think about weight loss. Usually dieting for most people means crashing your food intake. This may have shown loss on the weighing scale but at the cost of losing out on muscle mass and nutrients. Now that you are back on your routine diet the body is taking up whatever it's getting. Try to now concentrate on eating right. Do not try to avoid certain foods so you don't gain weight. You weight is essential for the growth of your baby and both your immunity. Just try to enjoy your pregnancy. This time won't come back again. Also, if you follow a healthy lifestyle, good nutritious diet and stay active after delivery, you should definitely lose the pregnancy fat. So, enjoy the pregnancy and all the best health to you.

Hlw Doctor. I want to ask a question for my Mom. She is 39years old and recently (1 month ago) she had the operation ...
Your mother underwent hystrectomy operation. I advise her to take fruits like apple, guava, papaya, water melon, pineapple, orange, moussami. These fruits will help to reduce weight. She should avoid cheese, desi ghee, cream and milk. She can take milk but not too much. She can do brisk walking and avoid heavy exercises.

360 Degree Approach For Managing Diabetes

Diabetes is a very common lifestyle disease, which happens when your body is not able to produce the insulin hormone or does not know how to use it in the right way. In such a scenario the glucose remains in the blood, and causes your blood sugar level to shoot up. It is a common knowledge that diabetes is a home for other diseases. Therefore managing it or preventing it is of utmost importance and in order to the same, one has to focus on the overall health and fitness of your body.

But managing diabetes is a challenge that most patients face every day. This is because there are so many aspects to be kept in mind right from workout to food to stress and general health, all of which work together to help you maintain the right blood sugar levels.

Here goes a holistic approach to aid you manage diabetes:

  1. Keep a record of the food you consume: When you are learning to control the level of blood sugar in your body, it would be very helpful if you maintain a journal of what food items you are eating every day. This will make it easier for you to monitor your diet and even if you indulge in some delicious savory, you can easily bring about a balance by eating the right amount of healthy fruits & vegetables for the following days.
  2. Exercise daily: Make exercise a part of your daily routine and empower yourself to fight diabetes. Types of exercises you can follow are brisk walking, basic weight training to boost your strength, swimming and yoga. Yoga postures which are highly beneficial in managing diabetes are Pranayam (deep breathing exercises), vajrasana, chakrasana, etc. which either enhance the insulin secretion or glucose utilisation.
  3. Be careful about your feet: Diabetes can lead to neuropathy and in the worst case, it may cause injuries in feet that go in-noticed because low pain sensation. Therefore, proper foot care is critical. You should wash your feet regularly with cold water and pat dry with a clean, dry towel & do make it a point to inspect the feet in front of a mirror. If there is a nerve damage along with numbness, you may notice blisters, sores, bruising, swelling, calluses or skin breakage. Thus, you will have to be very careful while inspecting your feet every day.
  4. Get rid of extra belly fat to reduce insulin resistance: It is a vicious circle, as extra belly fat can eventually lead to insulin resistance and insulin resistance can eventually lead to weight gain, but in order to manage and control diabetes it is important that this chain must be broken. Therefore, daily exercise of minimum 20 - 30 mins is very much required. to help you get rid of belly fat and control diabetes.
  5. Control Blood Pressure & Cholesterol if high: Diabetes is a host of diseases and diabetic people will eventually suffer from high blood pressure and cholesterol problem. Diabetes is a major reason of artery damage, which in turn leads to high blood pressure. In order to, maintain a healthy heart and to prevent yourself against any cardiovascular diseases it is important that you keep you cholesterol and blood pressure in check.
  6. Get the right treatment for sleep apnea and sleepiness during the day: Sleep apnea refers to a condition that causes breathing interruptions numerous times in a day. It is triggered by faulty signals coming from your brain or due to blocking of the airway by soft tissues present in your throat. People affected with sleep apnea are more likely to have this disorder, which leads to insulin resistance and may also be called a roadblock for controlling diabetes.
  7. Brush and floss on a daily basis: When you are not able to control your diabetes level, it can lead to high level of glucose in the blood. Also, it can increase the level of glucose in the saliva, which in turn paves the way for a surge in tooth decay. Also, having diabetes makes it difficult for an infection to heal and thus, if you develop a gum disease, it may become very hard for you to get rid of it. So, if you make a habit of brushing and flossing regularly, you would be able to maintain good oral hygiene and save your teeth and gums from developing any disease. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can ask a free question.

Abortion refers to expulsion of the fetus from uterus before the 20th week of gestation. When abortion occurs spontaneously, it is referred to as spontaneous abortion or miscarriage. Vaginal bleeding occurring during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy is referred to as threatened abortion. Bleeding varies from light spotting to heavy bleeding. This may or may not be attended with abdominal pain. Recurrent or habitual abortion refers to three or more spontaneous abortions occurring one after the other without any intervening pregnancy. Homeopathy is a highly advanced science known to effectively treat many gynaecological and obstetric conditions. Homeopathy remains very successful in treating the tendency towards recurrent abortion and threatened abortion. Homeopathic medicines to treat these conditions are prescribed based on the individual symptom presentation. Each case and its symptoms are studied in detail before a prescription is decided. The month during which miscarriage occurred previously, the character of bleeding, accompanying pains, menstrual history are noted down. You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

Immunity- Nature's way

Immunity- Nature's way

Charming Health - March 2017

  1. Importance of immunity cannot be under played under any circumstances.
  2. It is immunity which protects humans against all ailments.
  3. However, unfortunately it is going down due to pollution, wrong food habits, and misuse of antibiotics.
  4. It is now proved that immunity levels can be improved by several methods, namely Exercise, Right food habits, Scientific Fasting etc.
  5. Among all of them Fasting is definitely the most important and effective tool.
  6. One good occasion for fasting the Navaratry period. Celebrate it as Health Festival. This News letter has suggested the ritual to be followed, every time the Navaratry is around.
  7. The Vasant Navaratry this year is commencing from 28th March 2017.
  8. For the convenience of new members and for those who might have forgotten, the ritual is being again repeated in this News Letter under Health Tips. Follow it and prepare to protect against ailments lurking round the corner to attack, as soon as the Summer and Monsoon seasons arrive.

Observe Navaratry as suggested below:

Depending upon the personal body constitution the procedure is divided in 4 Sections as follows:

A. Obese and Non Diabetic: Just stop all foods and start on plain Water or Lime water or Coconut water. Use a mix of these, for first seven days.  Change to Fresh Fruit Juice or sugarless Juice, for two remaining days. On the tenth day take a light meal and then gradually come back to normal food in 2-3 days time. (Expected Weight Loss, 4-5 Kgs)

B. Obese and Diabetic: Stop all food. Start on Fresh or Sugarless Fruit Juice, preferably citrus, for all nine days. Divide the fruit juice in 4-5 equal parts. Take a light meal on tenth day. Come to normal food in 2-3 days time. (Expected Weight Loss, 3-4 kgs)

C. Normal constitution: Stop all normal food. For first three days take nothing but water, lemon water or coconut water. From the fourth day onwards start on Fresh or Sugarless Fruit Juice.  Take a light meal on tenth day. Come to normal food in 2-3 days time. (Expected Weight loss, 2-3 Kgs)

D. Under weight and first timers: Stop Normal Food. Start on 4 to 5 Medium Bananas and one liter of pasteurized cow milk. Divide this food in three or four parts. Continue for nine days. Take a light meal on tenth day. Come to normal food in 2-3 days time. (Expected weight Loss, Nil)

Other parts of the Therapy, (For all four sections):

  1. Take fresh water Enema every day. (Arrangement available at the Charming Yoga Center). Alternatively, buy the kit from the center and take enema at home- Training is provided free. For those who cannot take enema, take a big cup of Spinach soup every day. Though less effective, it is the best alternative.
  2. Under no circumstances, consume any fried food, or spicy food.
  3. Do not eat any so called Phalahri foods prepared from Kattu, Singhara/Rajgira Atta, Saboodana etc. Do not eat sweets made from milk or above mentioned attas.
  4. Drink lots of water. Total fluid intake should be about 3 liters per day.
  5. Do not stop your Normal Exercises or other Physical activities. Those who devote long hours on Pujas etc., and find no time for exercise, should add 40 minutes of walking every day.
  6. Those who chant sacred texts like Chandi Path or Durga Shapt Shati etc., sometimes feel drowsy during the chanting. They may, therefore, do their chanting along with walking. This will help chanting without getting drowsy. As a bonus, they will be bestowed with a healthier body.
  7. Those who cannot follow the whole course may do so for lesser number of days and increase gradually in subsequent Navaratry periods.
  8. The first timers and others should remain in a positive mood.
  9. Keep away from discouraging words and worried long faces.

These steps will definitely improve the immunity levels. And better immunity will help everyone remain healthy and active.

Let Maa Durga bestow good health upon all the readers.

  1. The winter is now gone.
  2. Vasant the king of all seasons is here.
  3. Be careful of Mosquito which are now already visible.

  1. Although the peak season of fruits and vegetables is going some summer fruits will replace them soon.
  2. Grapes are already here. Kinnows  and Oranges are in plenty.  The humble Melons and Water Melons are also ready to appear.
  3. Even the Ber is a fruit, full of nutrients. Do not ignore it.

  1. Bati is a popular food item in west Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. In eastern India its other version, Litti is equally popular.
  2. In the past bati was baked upon half burnt cow dung cakes.
  3. It was a cumbersome process. Therefore though popular, it was a rarity.
  4. It can now be made in a much easier way.
  5. Prepare hard Dough from whole wheat atta and roll in round balls of the size of big lemons.
  6. Boil them in a pressure cooker for about 10 minutes.
  7. Then grill them in an oven till the colour changes to slight brown. Frequent turning them during baking is very important so that baties are evenly baked all around.
  8. For those who can eat fats may break the bati and sink it in ghee. Others can just roll them in ghee without breaking.
  9. Eat with any dal of choice.
  10. It is also possible to stuff the baties with mashed Potato, or Paneer, or Tofu etc.
  11. Baties can also be finely crushed and mixed with Gur and ghee.
  12. Prepared this way, baties are not only delicious but are also very healthy.
  13. Some people fry the dough balls. This must be avoided because frying destroys all nutritional values of wheat, otherwise available in Baties.
