Hello Doc.
Please suggest me some home remedies as a cure for dry, dull and problematic skin in winters.
Thanks.
Hi lybrate-user. You have to follow some basic things so that you get better results in a short period of time. 1) drink only 100-150 ml of lukewarm water during meals, 2) don’t drink water before meal for one hour and one hour after meal, 3) avoid oily, spicy, junk, fermented and stale foods, 4) sleep upto 10.30 pm, 5) avoid coffee and tea, A) use evenshade cream of charak pharma, B) take 30 ml of AUDUMBARAVLEHA after meals, C) take 2-2 tablets of PANCHTIKTA-GHRUTA-GUGGULA VATI and MADHUMALINI VASANT RASA after meals, Do all things for 30 days. Gives you good result. THANKS.

Dear doctor, I'm 26, female. I have a number of grey hair and it is increasing day by day. How can I tackle this prob...
You may colour them with dyes. You may prevent further graying of hair by taking high protein diet rich in vitamins. The premature graying problem is largely genetic. Hair follicles contain pigment cells that produce melanin, which gives your tresses their color. When your body stops generating melanin, hair presents itself as gray, white, or silver. Many herbal and homeopathic preparations are sold online and at chemist shops for premature graying of hair but all they are futile just taking money for selling hopes. Many home remedies are mentioned at various websites, but the results are poor. These remedies are: Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage Amla and Fenugreek Pack Lemon Juice and Almond Oil Massage Black Tea Massage Rosemary and Sage Treatment Ribbed Gourd Therapy Buttermilk Pack Shikakai Cleanse Amaranth Juice Pack Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage Each one of us want to stay young forever, but no one can stop the flow of time. The aging of skin and greying of hair are the two most evident signs of aging. Hair greying is a natural process, and appearance of grey hair from mid-40s is normal. But it turns into a nightmare, especially for women when they find a strand of grey or white hair peeping from amidst the black ones as early as in their 20s or 30s. Hair turns grey when the body stops producing the pigment melanin that is responsible for the dark color of hair. In most cases, this occurs due to lack of nourishment and a well-balanced diet. It is best to treat problems of skin and hair such as dull and damaged hair, premature greying and dandruff with home remedies in order to minimize side effects. The causes of hair greying are several. Here we have listed out a few common causes. Heredity is a major reason for hair greying Excessive use of tobacco and smoking Chronic emotional stress or psychological worries Lack of nutrients such as vitamins, iron, copper and iodine in the diet Medical conditions such as anemia, hypothyroidism, tuberous sclerosis or neurofibromatosis The main reason for hair greying is loss of pigmentation melanin from the hair follicles, and it is best to treat this problem with effective home remedies that have absolutely no side effects. Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage One of the most common herbs used to temper Indian curries, curry leaves have amazing benefits for hair as well. It is the most effective natural grey hair solution. Vitamin B present in curry leaves restores the functions of the natural pigment in the hair follicles that provides a shining black color to the hair strands and prevents further greying of hair. It also supplies essential nutrients to the hair and heals damaged hair roots. Being a rich source of beta-carotene, it stimulates hair growth and prevents hair fall. The benefits of coconut oil for hair and skin are numerous as well. It is the best natural conditioner for dry, rough hair that smoothen the open hair cuticles and makes hair lustrous, bouncy and manageable. Curry Leaves and Coconut Oil Massage Ingredients: Coconut Oil – 1 Cup Curry Leaves – Handful Add the curry leaves to the oil and boil it for 6 to 8 minutes, or till the leaves turn black. Remove from flame and let it cool. Strain the oil in a container and massage your scalp and hair with this oil 3 to 4 times per week before going to bed. Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo in the morning. Amla and Fenugreek Pack Amla or Indian gooseberry is one of the most effective home remedies for grey hair and has been used since ancient times in Ayurveda for treating all kinds of hair problems. Being a rich source of antioxidant vitamin C, it has amazing anti-aging properties and helps in preventing premature greying of hair. It also promotes hair growth and improves hair health. Fenugreek or methi is a common kitchen spice, but it is loaded with nutrients such as vitamin C, Iron, potassium, lysine, L-tryptophan and alkaloids that have amazing benefits for hair and skin. It prevents premature greying, treats follicular problems to prevent hair fall, promotes hair growth and prevents scalp dryness as well as dandruff. In addition, it also acts as an effective natural remedy for acne and pimples. Amla and Fenugreek Pack Ingredients: Dried Amla – 5 to 6 pieces Fenugreek – 1 Tablespoon Coconut Oil – ½ Cup Turn the fenugreek seeds to a smooth powder and keep aside. Heat the oil and add the amla pieces to it, let it boil for 5 to 6 minutes, add the fenugreek powder to the oil, let it boil for another minute and remove from flame. Let it cool and strain the oil, apply on scalp and hair before going to bed. Wash off with a mild herbal shampoo in the morning. Lemon Juice and Almond Oil Massage Being a rich source of antioxidant vitamin E, almond oil acts a natural remedy for treating wrinkles, fine lines and age spots. Almond oil is extremely beneficial for hair as well. Massaging scalp and hair with almond oil prevents premature greying of hair. It nourishes the roots of the hair, improves elasticity and prevents split ends. It treats dandruff and adds a healthy glow to hair. Lemon is a rich source of vitamins B, C and phosphorus that promotes hair growth by supplying nourishment to the hair roots. It adds volume and shine to the hair strands. Lemon Juice and Almond Oil Massage Ingredients: Almond Oil – 2 Tablespoon Lemon Juice – 3 Tablespoon Mix almond oil and lemon juice in a glass bowl and apply thoroughly on scalp and hair, Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash off with a mild shampoo. Black Tea Massage The benefits of black tea for cancer prevention and improving cardiovascular health are well known. But it also has great benefits for skin and hair. Loaded with antioxidants and caffeine, black tea stimulates hair growth and improves strength and elasticity of the hair strands to prevent brittleness and breakage of hair. It adds a natural dark hue to hair and adds a natural shine to it. Black Tea Massage Ingredients: Black Tea Powder – 2 tablespoons Salt – 1 Teaspoon Boil 2 tablespoons of black tea and 1 teaspoon of salt in water for 2 minutes and remove from flame. Let it cool and strain the liquid. Wash your hair with this liquid and let it dry, don’t rinse with shampoo. Repeat it 2 to 3 times per week for best results.

Treating Sunburns with Ayurveda

Treating Sunburns with Ayurveda

Sunburns are caused due to long stretches of exposure to the sun. People living in tropical countries are more prone to sunburns. The harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun can lead to skin pigmentation that if not treated, can become a permanent skin condition. The worst aspect of sun tanning is that it keeps piling on your skin layer after layer. It is therefore absolutely essential to cover the skin of your face and arms while venturing outdoors.

Medications are effective in certain cases, but in some other cases, the afflicted person's skin is so sensitive that medicated ointments fail to show improvement. Ayurvedic home remedies can be put to use to avoid alarming side effects.

Sunburns are characterized by the following symptoms:

  1. The affected area is usually hotter than other parts of your skin
  2. A stinging and itching sensation may develop
  3. Red and pink patches may be seen on your face and arms or around the neck
  4. Acute sunburn can even make a person suffer from fevers and fatigue

These Ayurvedic ways can be followed at home to treat sunburns:

  1. Use black tea to cure sun rashes and sunburns: Refrigerate some black tea if possible. This cold beverage must be applied to the areas that have been harshly affected by the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Applying black tea on your skin multiple times in a day can repair the damage already done.
  2. Coconut oil is a great way to remove sun tan: Coconut oil has been held in high esteem since ages. It is known for its ability to cure rashes. One must use coconut oil on the red patches every night before going to bed.
  3. Aloe vera gel can do wonders with your affected skin: Instead of using creams that contain aloe vera; one should use aloe vera gel by extracting it directly from the plant. Aloe vera can heal the burns and can also soothe the burning sensation.
  4. Cucumber in combination with lemon juice can remedy sunburns: Lemon juice has acidic effects that helps in lightening sun tan. When this juice is used with cucumber paste, the latter cools down an irritated skin area and rejuvenates it from within. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ayurveda and ask a free question.

Hello lybrate-user I appreciate your awareness for starting an anti-ageing cream. Yours is a perfect age for starting it. There are excellent Vit C containing anti-ageing creams available in the market. I can prescribe them for you after having a look a your skin. You may start an online consult for that. You can start Vit E capsules. There is no issue in that. Eat fruits and vegetables regularly, use a good sunscreen of atleast 30 SPF and do facial exercises-These things will delay the appearance of wrinkles. Take care :)

Hair fall and hair thinning are two different problems. Hair thinning is hormone related genetic problem. It is progressive by nature. Hair fall has various reasons like nutritional deficiency, stress, acute illness like malaria, typhoid, jaundice, chronic illness like diabetes, thyroid. Hair is made up of minerals, protein and iron. Sprouts, beans, nuts, soya gives proteins to hair. Green leafy vegetables give iron. Drink 3 lit of water/day. Oil the scalp 3/week and wash it 3/week. Hi. It's normal to lose up to 100 hair per day, and in most people, those hairs grow back. But many men -- and some women -- lose hair as they grow older. You can also lose your hair if you have certain diseases, such as thyroid problems, diabetes, or lupus. If you take certain medicines or have chemotherapy for cancer, you may also lose your hair. Other causes are stress, a low protein diet, a family history, use of bore water, or nutritional deficiencies. Need to rule out any causative factor or underlying medical condition. Management: Take diet rich in protein like non-veg, eggs (it's loaded with essential nutrients such as proteins, vitamin b12, iron, zinc and omega 6 fatty acids in large amounts and biotin), different pulses & legumes, sprouts, nuts (sp. Walnuts and almonds); iron-rich food like green vegetables, dates, carrots, prunes, green peas; also oats, shrimp, take flaxseeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, green tea, soyabean, fruits, salads, etc. Take low-fat dairy products (they also contain whey and casein, two high-quality protein sources) take proper 6-9hrs of sound sleep. Give up the habit of smoking and excessive alcohol intake. Avoid junk food and any kind of beverages (tea, coffee, aerated drinks, cold drinks, etc.) avoid canned/ tinned food or food that contains preservatives (eat fresh ones). Avoid use of hard water to wash the head rather use boiled water for head wash. Avoid use of harsh hair colour, hair treatment like rebonding, straightening, perming, etc. Avoid vigorous exercises or any supplements provided by the gym! cover your head with scarf or cap while stepping outside. Use rose wood/ any wooden hair comb to brush your hair. Regular exercising is also one of the important point, but should be done under some good, qualified yoga teacher or instructor for proper guidance; it also releases the stress/ tension in the mind and the body and keeps you fit and young! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Schwabe's Wiesbaden 200 & Alfalfa tonic twice a day for 1 month and revert. Use Schwabe's Arnica shampoo and Hair Growth oil regularly as per the condition of your scalp (minimum 3 times a week). After shampooing, use Bakson's Arnica hair conditioner as well after every head wash.

Hello. Use fash or facecare facewash twice a day. Use nadoxin gel on the pimple very little amount or one pea size drop for full face once a day for 15 days. Pimples if come very frequently, a long course of tablets is required. Peels are secondary treatment. They help in reducing acne marks but can not prevent acne. So see a local dermatologist for further assessment if no satisfactory response.

Pimple marks r being highlighted on my face! D black spots look horrible. I want a solution to clear these pimple marks.
Dear patient, it's important to have a dual mode of action for such conditions. Aim should be to prevent new pimples from erupting and to dry the older ones simultaneously so that they don't leave any scar and dark spots. Though dark spots can be managed later on, it's very difficult to treat the scars because of acne and the worst part of acne is that most of them leave a scar or pigmentation when heal. Aim is to constrict the glands which is making the secretions on which bacteria find a good medium to multiply. Some patients also have acne on their arms shoulders and back and respond well to systemic treatment along with creams for local application. Lasers also can be done in severe cases and sometimes patient mostly female need some special drugs. So peels along with anti acne medication and oral tablets may help you out. It may take 4-6 weeks to get a proper control over them and according to the results we have to manage the drugs. We try to minimise the use of drugs through latest technology and treatment modalities.
