No it could be simple rashes. Just apply some extra-virgin olive oil on it - twice for few days and it will heal.

I am 16 years old and I have 15 tumor in my neck from last 10 years how should it treat?

DNB, MBBS

Dear sir, if for past 10years you have lumps it must be benign but you have to be clinically seen by a physician to rule out any infective cause. You can also meet us in our clinics.

My aunt has initial stage of Breast cancer & have removed left breast. Now Chemo therapy needs to be started. Doctor suggested Cup therapy or Vein therapy. Kindly suggest which is better therapy?

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery, MS - General Surgery, MBBS, FICS
General Surgeon, Delhi
Both are ok. If your aunt has good veins, then it is better to infuse drugs intravenously directly. If she doesn't have good veins then it is better to have a chemoport placed and then infuse drugs through a chemoport.

My father is 56 years old. He had sphincterotomy. Cholangiogram showed narrowing at mid CBD. No tumour observed in MRI and CT scan. But CA-19-9 is 1829.5 and CEA is 0.35. Does this indicate cancer.

MD - Alternate Medicine, Phd - Medical Biochemistry
Oncologist, Delhi
Sphincterotomy is a method of last resort, to be used when all other attempts at cannulation during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with standard cannulas, tapered cannulas, papillotomes, and guidewires have failed. Usually the pancreatitis, cholangitis, hemorrhage, and duodenal perforation. Cancer is more common in patients who are older and in those with type I and IV cysts. Please note Carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) markers and their diagnostic utility is limited due to significant overlap with benign disease and other malignancies, and also ahs low sensitivity for early stage cholangiocarcinoma (Cancer of the bile ducts). Nect step would be to evaluate Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is used to help differentiate intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). If all tests are normal, one needs to evaluate the cause of Intrahepatic cholestasis. Will need all reports staring from the initial complaint/ procedure and others to see where we are and what could be the issue, if any.

Do homeopathic medicines have any side effect? Also tell me sir which therapy is more effective in treating deadly diseases like cancer?

Registrar in Surgical Oncology, Fellowship in Gynaecologic Oncology, Masters In Advanced Oncology, Fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and robotic surgery, Fellowship in Gastrointestinal Oncology, Fellowship in CRS and HIPEC, Fellowship in PIPAC
Oncologist, Mumbai
Dear Sir, Lot of effort is going on to decide which is the best therapy for cancer. Unfortunately cancer is one word with 1000 manifestations and there is no simple cure for it. Having said this, allopathy at present gives you the best shot at cure. A judicious use of chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy often cures cancers in stage 1 and 2. There is lot of research going on for homeopathy and ayurveda but unfortunately it is still in its infancy. So at present allopathy is the best bet. I am not saying this because I am a surgeon, but unfortunately every month we get 2 or 3 patients who were stage 1 to begin with and progressed to stage 4 on alternative therapies and we could not do anything for them at such a late stage.

This is absurd. He must be a quack who advised you to do so. Please consult a qualified doctor- surgeon.

I am suffering from hodgkin lymphoma and going through chemotherapy. Please give me some guidelines.

MD - Radiothrapy, MBBS
Oncologist, Pune
Generally the treatment of Hodgkin's Lymphoma is Chemotherapy for 4 to 6 cycles followed by Radiation if indicated. Chemotherapy is generally given once in every 2 weeks as day 1 and day 15 which forms 1 cycle. You will need to do PET CT in between to reassess the response to treatment. Please consult online for more information. Thanks.
