How can we identify skin cancer in the primary stage and what are the treatments for skin cancer?

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
Performed regularly, self examination can alert you to changes in your skin and aid in the early detection of skin cancer. It should be done often enough to become a habit, but not so often as to feel like a bother. For most people, once a month is ideal, but ask your doctor if you should do more frequent checks. The prognosis (chance of recovery) depends mostly on the stage of the cancer and the type of treatment used to remove the cancer. Treatment options depend on the following: The stage of the cancer (whether it has spread deeper into the skin or to other places in the body). The type of cancer. The size of the tumor and what part of the body it affects. The patient’s general health

High fat diet, prostate cancer prone
############################
Diets high in saturated fat increase the risk of prostate cancer. As per a report from University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston published in the International Journal of Cancer:
Men who consume high saturated animal fat diet are two times more likely to experience disease progression after prostate cancer surgery than men with lower saturated fat intake.
There is also shorter "disease–free" survival time among obese men who eat high saturated fat diet compared with non–obese men consuming diets low in saturated fat.
Men with a high saturated fat intake had the shortest survival time free of prostate cancer (19 months)
Non–obese men with low fat intake survived the longest time free of the disease (46 months).
Non–obese men with high intake and obese men with low intake had "disease–free" survival of 29 and 42 months, respectively.
Take home messages
High saturated fat diet has been linked to cancer of the prostate
Reducing saturated fat in the diet after prostate cancer surgery can help reduce cancer progression.
Cancer prostate has the same risk factors as that of heart blockages and both are linked to high saturated fat intake.
With an increase in number of heart patients, a corresponding increase in prostate cancer patients is also seen in the society.

You need to get examined again with ultrasound of breasts and again consult the operating surgeon. Monthly self breast examination should be practiced.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Prostate Cancer

The prostate is a small gland positioned around the urethra and is responsible for creating the fluid to be ejaculated that contains semen. Commonly described as the shape and size of a walnut, the prostate has many important functions within the male reproductive system. Reports of cancer of this organ have become very frequent. Ayurveda has very effective treatments that not only stop the spread of the cancer, but can actually cause partial or full remission.

Some Ayurvedic treatments for Prostate cancer:

  1. Haritaki and Terminalia Chebula: When mixed with honey and ghee, this medication is known to be very effective in treating anemia. However, it is also very effective in fighting tumors and cancer cells and thus is both a supplement to the body as well as fighter of illnesses.
  2. Amalaki or Emblica Officinalis: One of the most used and go to remedies within Ayurveda is amalaki which is frequently used to cure digestive problems. It is also an antioxidant and quickly drains out free radicals from within the body. This helps in cancer treatment, immunity boosting and improving metabolism.
  3. Vibhitaki or Terminalia Belerica: This is an excellent medication, which is very beneficial in purifying blood and removing toxins from the body. It is very good in increasing red blood cell count, which is very important when the body is fighting any form of cancer. Thus it is effective in the case of prostate cancer as well.
  4. Guduchi or Giloy: This medication is very good to fight calcium deficiency and is very effective at fighting infections as well. This is necessary to ensure that the body is protected while it is fighting the cancerous cells.
  5. Curcumin or Curcuma Longa: This is one of the wonder drugs being touted around as the next big thing in fighting cancer. Curcumin is the primary chemical in turmeric and is known to be very effective in the prevention of growth and spread of cancer cells.
  6. Punarnava or Boerhavia Diffusa: This is a great medication, which helps improve blood flow to and from the kidneys and also helps in increasing the count of red blood cells. All these properties make this particular species of flowering plant an absolute master when it comes to preventing prostate cancer.

Hello sir. I am 25 year old. I am a student. I had used tobacco products from last 10years. Now I want to quite this. But I am unable to do this. I am getting afraid that may be I get caught by cancer. Suggest me what should I do. I also unable to concentrate on my studies.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, it's really surprising that from age of 15 yrs you have been consuming tobacco. It's high time, you must quit. Tobacco has addictive tendency, so first you have to be determined, make up your mind and stay away from such places or people who distribute this. You can use nicotine gums or patches to kill the urge for time being. You can use alternative chewing materials like sauf, clove or mouth freshners to keep your mouth engaged. I have seen that determination and willing ness to quit is the best way to quit. Life is very precious, save it.

I have undergone surgery surgery for prostrate 10 yr ago. When can I start normal life and exercises. Please tell.
Hello, although your question is not clear but if its only few days passed after the surgery and if there is pain and swelling in that area then you should take rest and avoid exercising. If its been many months after operation then you can do exercising and follow a normal routine life. Take care.

Dear lybrate user, please let me know what the biopsy report is. The treatment will be surgical removal if it's possible and chemotherapy. The possibility of cure will depend upon the type of cancer and stage. But in general liver cancers are harder to cure.
