Dear Lybrate user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

I am male, 74 years, 62 kg. Was told that there was 'murmur' in heart during routine checkup 12 years ago. 'Echo gram' then indicated 'mild' prolapse of Mitral valve. Four years later, echo indicated moderate MVP. One month ago, echo reveals moderate to severe eccentric jet mitral regurgitation, anterior and posterior mitral leaflet appear thickened, healed vegetation attached to anterior mitral leaflet? Flail posterior mitral leaflet? Mitral annular calcification, Aortic valve sclerosis, trivial aortic regurgitation, no significant aortic stenosis, trivial tricuspid regurgitation, no significant pulmonary arterial hypertension. Normal BP and lipid profile. Not diabetic. No symptoms till recently. However, now feel slightly breathless when I take stairs for 2 floors or when I walk for more than 1 km or do anything strenuous. What is prognosis? Is there medication for this condition. Would prefer to avoid surgery for valve repair or replacement. Your advice. Am on Ecosprin 75, Dynapres 0.4 and 5 mg Atorva only.

Dear Lybrateuser, - Since you have symptoms of breathlessness, it indicates that your problem has deteriorated over a period of time - the valvular defects which impede the effective closure & opening of valves may require surgery - take the advise of your cardiologist as corrective treatment given will improve your life quality & you will be able to perform your regular daily activities easily.

What should we do in we have high BP? And also tell me why sugar is not to eaten by a person how have diabetes.
Hello lybrate-user, a) a sound clinical evaluation often suffices to trace the cause of hypertension in younger age group. Younger men with high blood pressure typically have high diastolic pressure while older men have high systolic pressure. In young men, the diastolic pressure rises because the heart is pumping harder. Often these are patients whose blood pressure would respond to weight management and other lifestyle changes, but they're less likely to seek treatment. Few lifestyle modifications like weight reduction, dash (dietary approaches to stop hypertension) eating plan. Lower salt intake. Aerobic physical activity. Moderation of alcohol consumption. B) diabetes is a metabolic disease in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. When you have diabetes, your blood sugar (glucose) levels may be consistently high. Over time, this can damage your body and lead to many other problems. Glucose is precious fuel for all the cells in your body when it's present at normal levels. But it can behave like a slow-acting poison. High sugar levels slowly erode the ability of cells in your pancreas to make insulin. The organ overcompensates and insulin levels stay too high. Over time, the pancreas is permanently damaged. High levels of blood sugar can cause changes that lead to a hardening of the blood vessels, what doctors call atherosclerosis.

Dry cough is a sign of allergic cough. It can be due to other serious illnesses also but the longer we are having dry cough especially at your age the more sure we are that it is allergic /asthmatic cough. The pain in chest when you cough hard is because we cough with our chest muscles and abdominal muscles. So they sprain. For that hot fomentation is good. You have to 1. Avoiid all precipitating factors. 2. Do not smoke, 3, exercise regularly. 4. Consult a allergy specialist. 5. They will give you medicines as spray/ inhalation for asthma. They are safe. 6. Do not stop medicines till doctor tells. 7. You problem is luckily not a serious problem.

Avoiding salt, losing weight, eating vegetables and stress relief are quick ways to lower your blood pressure.

Quitting smoking, decreasing alcohol intake, and reducing caffeine consumption are good long-term strategies to lower your blood pressure as well.

Focusing on balanced nutrition and eating foods that are low in cholesterol and saturated fat. These include fruits and veggies, whole grains, and low or no-fat dairy products.

Hello dear High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. If you people have not been taking care about diet after surgery in 2007, start now, avoid oily food, take lots of fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits, a glass of warm water with lemon juice + spoon of honey every morning on empty stomach. Some good fats like a katori of assorted nuts + a spoon of desighee/ butter every day to boost up good fats and to reduce bad fats, stay away from transfats like namkeens, burgers, pizzas, tinned food and make it a habit to take less salt, avoid chutneys, pickles, papads etc as salt is used as a preservative in all packed foods bought from market.

Dear sir I want to know how to decrease our body pressure during high blood pressure and sugar.

PGDD, RD, Bachelor of Home Science
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
Dear sir I want to know how to decrease our body pressure during high blood pressure and sugar.
Hye, Thanks for the query. For a diabetic with hypertension it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - The sugar levels will fluctuate depending on what you ate or did not eat, stress levels and activity levels. You have to try and manage a balanced carb intake. Have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. You have to eat 3 main and 3 mid meals. Your diet must include whole grains, seasonal fruits, vegetables, small amounts of nuts and dairy and pulses or dals or lean meats like chicken or fish and egg. Starchy vegetables need to be planned into the diet. Avoid excess salt in foods. Avoid packeted, processed foods. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Avoid foods that say fat free or sugar free. They are not as healthy as they are made out to be. Exercise and stay active. Avoid exercise if sugar levels are above 250mg/dl. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well.            It's all a matter of discipline.
