What is the problem in flue and what causes hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment?

What is the problem in flue and what causes hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment?
Mr. Lybrate-user, influenza (flu), is a self limiting viral infection of upper respiratory tract. It can cause fever, (some times high fever) severe body ache including low back pain and joint pains, upper respiratory symptoms like running nose, sore throat and cough. There is hardly any sputum. Disease runs a short course of 4 to 5 days. But recovery is slow. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disorder of thyroid gland where there are antibodise produced against thyroid peroxidase enzyme (anti tpo ab). These antibodies destroy thyroxine producing cells in the gland that results in thyroxine deficiency - hypothyroidism. The gland is filled with lymphocytes and may look globular and firm. One of the cause is said to be excess iodine intake through iodinated salt. Treatment is to start thyroxine tablets and take them for life time. This is the commonest cause of hypothyroidism in usa.

Hello lybrate-user, Uric acid is a waste compound generated by the body from break down of proteins. When the body cannot eliminate these uric acid compounds from the body naturally, they tend to settle in joints and kidneys. That a€™s how you end up having GOUT. This is the reason why protein intake should be restricted if you are already suffering from gout. Since your body is unable to throw out the unwanted uric acid, you need to take the help of medicines which will help you to do so. Do let me know if I can provide you any treatment for your troubles and also do let me know if this was helpful. Thank you.

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. To control blood glucose effectively apart from medication (Insulin) patient also has to follow a strict diet control. Avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items and food made from maida. Plus match her intake based on ideal body weight, extent of daily exercise and blood glucose levels. Daily exercise of over 1 hour is a must. Unless all these aspects are properly taken care, there is no way of maintaining blood glucose levels in control. Only Insulin will not help. Since there is no mention of her diet and extent of daily exercise, so really no idea whether these aspects are taken care at all. Looking at her weight and height it is clear that she is overweight with a BMI of 27.82 kgs/M2, her ideal body weight should be 57 kgs, hence she has an excess of 12 kgs, which does hinder glucose control. Thanks.

Is rice bran oil good for bp 160/100?
What alternatives used for salt?
For sugar I found honey.
Type of oil has nothing to do with BP. There is no alternative for salt. You should take low salt diet. Honey is no alternative to sugar. If you are diabetic yould not take sugar, honey, jaggery (gur) in any form.

Mr. lybrate-user, With current treatment is your blood glucose level under control? Ideally fasting should be closer to 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c%<6.8. If this is achieved, then one remains fairly healthy. It is difficult to say there is constant body pain. One may look at Vitamin D3 and calsium supplements along with regular exercises. Thanks.

I tested blood glucose level in the morning after breakfast. It came out to be 248. And tested it after 4 hours without eating. It was 243. I'm really worried with this level. Checked for symptoms but except frequent thirst and frequent urination don't have any other symptoms.

Your glucose levels are well above the normal range- qualifying you as a diabetic. Unfortunately, diabetic symptoms are not standardised and not all patients suffer from the symptoms. The most important information for diagnosis is the glucose level which you have just shared here. Hence, without any doubt- please plan your further treatment for diabetes.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given. I understand that your blood glucose is not in proper control now. Since there is nothing mentioned in terms of fasting, PP glucose levels and HbA1c%, it is difficult to know what exactly is the situation. Any ways since the control is not as good as earlier, it is clear that current treatment is not adequate. There may be a need for either changing the treatment or increasing the dosage. Plus one has to give a closure look at your diet and exercise as those two aspects are very critical in diabetes control. If you are looking for online help, please do come in a private conversation with following details: Fasting, PP glucose, HbA1c%, present dietary pattern, extent of daily exercise, lipid profile and BP readings. Then I will be able to guide and even prescribe necessary drugs. Thanks.
