Sir I can not see properly because in my eye there is a yellow coloured area is appearing in iris. This colour is appearing since 3 yrs. My age is 18. Sir please suggest any treatment is there for this problem. Why this coloured portion is appearing and what is this portion called?

Hello lybrate-user. Yellow eyes of recent onset (few days), could be due to a condition of the liver known as jaundice. In such a case, it would be associated with fever and abdominal pain along with yellowing of the skin of the whole body. It would be a good idea to get a complete body check up by a physician. It might require liver function tests to be done. If the condition that you described has occurred over a span of years, it would be more likely to be due to a condition known as pterygium or pingecuela of the conjunctiva. Pterygium/ pingecuela is characterized by a yellowish small elevated lesion that occurs just adjacent to the cornea. It usually occurs due to excessive exposure to sunlight and environmental dust. It occurs more commonly in people having a lot of field work. It is usually a harmless condition which requires no intervention unless there is excessive redness, burning or pain associated with it. If the symptoms of burning and redness do occur then it would be a good idea to use lubricant eye drops along with an antihistamine eye drops as well. This would be best done under the supervision of an eye specialist after getting the eyes checked up in person. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-regards.

Hello Doctor, I wear spectacle but because wearing turban I bought lenses today I tried to apply them on my eyes one was successfully done and when I applied another I felt blurry so I tried to remove But on right side I am confused, that my lenses took out or not? I did not find anywhere I tried to take it out from eye. M confused Please tell me if this would b in my eye how can I remove it? Will it create problem. I'M VERY SCARED PLEASE SUGGEST ME.

MS - Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Rewa
Dear:- you have started contact lens wearing recently. Insertion of cl: the moistened cl is placed on tip of right finger, & brought to eye, while the lids r retracted and eye gazes steadily at approaching cl until it is applied gently to cornea. When in position the upper lid is released first & then lower lid. Removal of cl: the eye is opened widely so that lid margins r beyond edge of lens. Index finger is placed at outer can nothus possibly touching sclera & with firm pressure backward stretches the skin & therewith the lid laterally. The taught lids expel lens which will either dislocate on to lashes or on to waiting hand.

I am wearing glasses, my eyesight is -5 both eyes, I want to undergo LASIK or SMILE, Which is best. I want to know the side effects of this surgery? Also if regression occurs ,then how much recession can occur according to my present prescription?

MBBS, DOMS, MS - Ophthalmology, , Fellowship in phacoemusification
Ophthalmologist, Patna
Smile lasik is recent technology & require only 2.5 mm incision for whole surgery but go only after your myopic power gets stabilised. Myopic power is inherited from either mother or father side & is basically hereditary in nature ,maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 to 21 yrs in male & between 13 yrs to 19 yrs in female because maximum body growth takes place between these periods. There is no direct medicine to check the increase in myopic power but with the help of balanced diet ,green vegetables & seasonal fruits  one can slow the speed in the increase of myopic  power, one can take the help of yoga pranayam, swimming, gym &these things definitely slow the speed of increase in myopic power.

Hello lybrate-user. You could consider the option of refractive surgery (lasik. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery (lasik). There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. In case you have any other queries, feel free to contact me. Hope my suggestions help you, take care, regards.

Hello, get your eyes tested from an opthalmologist. Include the following for getting better vision: vitamins a, c, e, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. Dha is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for strengthening eye muscles: -begin by partially closing your eyes; the lids should only be halfway shut. After holding for 10-15 seconds, close your eyes very slowly. Take a few deep breaths to increase oxygen in the blood. -warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. -hold a pen at arm's length. Focus your gaze on the tip of the pen. Bring the pen closer to your nose at a slow and steady pace. Repeat this exercise 5-10 times. -concentrate your vision on the tip of your nose. Then shift your gaze to an object further away, either at arm's length or 20 feet away. Then shift your eyes back to the tip of your nose. Repeat this exercise 10 times. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Begin by look to the left-most position (without moving your head) and hold to stretch your eye muscles. Hold for 5 counts. Blink and return your gaze back to look straight in front of you. Then look to the right-most position with your gaze and hold for 5 counts. Repeat 3 times, blinking between each hold. Then, repeat this exercise looking up and then down. Do not forget about blinking. -sit in a relaxed but upright position. Look up and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look up to and to your left for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your right for 5 seconds. Return your gaze to center. Look down and to your left for 5 seconds. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids. Medication: take homoeopathic medicine which will help you in preventing first and then reducing the power of your eyes (if the eye power is less). Take physostigma 6/ thrice daily for 1 month and instill euphrasia eye drops twice a day. Thereafter, revert back for further guidance.

Doctor has recommended glasses for my 5-year old daughter. Will it be right get her glasses in such a small age. Can eye sight improve naturally as age grows?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Hello. If the doctor has recommended glasses for your daughter, it would be a good idea to get her glasses. The reason being that the age range between birth to 12 years is the prime period for the development of the eyes. Any child in this range having glasses should be made to wear glasses and an eye checkup should be done at least every 6 months (if not advised otherwise). If glasses are not worn as recommended, there are chances of developing amblyopia (lazy eye). This entity means that the vision potential of the eye is reduced permanently. The glasses use should be recommended during school, homework, etc. But need not be worn throughout the day. Also, a good idea would be to encourage proper postural maintenance while doing homework, watching television, computer screen or the mobile phone. The distance of viewing should not be excessively close. Similarly, prolonged periods of staring at the television/ computer screen should be strictly discouraged. The power of the glasses may change with age (not necessarily improve). This would only be possible to say with time. It has been seen in certain children that glasses power reduces with age but that depends totally upon the type of eye refractive error and genetic factors. In case you require further suggestions, feel free to communicate over the video facility offered via lybrate. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care-

Getting some permanent kind of pimples on face and neck, but now it has appeared on upper layer of my eye, due to which it is creating problems. Please advise what to do.

MD
Yoga & Naturopathy Specialist, Delhi
For acne do the following: wash your face 5-6 times daily. Take one cup of spinach juice every day. If you can, eat only fruits and fruit juices for three days. Apply steam on your face. Do some exercise for 20 mins to 30 mins, which will cause heavy sweating on the entire body. These will remove pimples from his face in less than two months. Also remember no lotion, cream or medicine can actually remove them permanently. Only the above treatment can do so. If you can come for a visit still better advice is possible.

I am suffering for eye dry ness from 4 years can you please help me to get rid of it. Can you please cure me.

MBBS, DOMS, MS - Ophthalmology, , Fellowship in phacoemusification
Ophthalmologist, Patna
Dryness is not a disease which you can cure by putting lubricating eye drops for few days, while working on smartphone , computer & watching TV for long time without giving importance to the health of eyes. Number of blinking drastically goes down from around 24 per minute to around 8 per minute while working on computer etc causing severe dryness, blurring of vision, headache & increased blinking to compensate dryness .One who works on smartphone etc will have to change &will have to learn how to work on computer for long time without giving any trouble to eyes .One should look away from computer after every 10 minute & should take rest for 10 minutes after every two hours .Every body knows that to become man from monkey took millions of years according to Darwin theory & how you expect that our eyes will adjust to computer in 20 yrs, nature takes its own time, computer development is just 20 yrs history, so you will have to take the help of lubricating eye drops to neutralise the effect of computer etc,you may use nano eye drops 4-5 times daily + gancigel at bed time + cap I Dew mega one cap once daily x 3 months.
