I have a friend who is suffering from diabetes mellitus and hypertension so what should I do for him to take care.
Mr. Lybrate-user, you should help your friend to start appropriate treatment for diabetes and high blood pressure. Drug treatment is essential for proper control. In addition he should exercise daily for 1 hour, take restricted diet that give exact amount of calories based on his ideal body weight, blood sugar levels and amount of daily exercise. For controlling high bp apart from drugs salt restriction is very essential. He should also be told to avoid sweets, sweetened aerated drinks, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, high fat milk products, red meat, highly processed foods and fructose corn syrup containing products. He should consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads.

UTI During Pregnancy - 4 Tips To Avoid It

UTI During Pregnancy - 4 Tips To Avoid It

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is usually caused by inflammation or bacteria in the urinary tract. Pregnant mothers are most susceptible to this infection, especially after the sixth week and before the twenty fourth week of pregnancy. This usually happens due to the alterations that take place in the urinary tract during pregnancy.

Also, a growing uterus can block the urine drainage from this part of the body, leading to the accumulation of bacteria which causes infection. The symptoms are uncomfortable and even painful. These include pain and burning sensation, frequent urination, fever and chills. So how can you prevent UTI during pregnancy? we have a few tips for you!

  1. Hydration: The best thing you can do to both prevent and treat a urinary tract infection is to start drinking at least six to eight glasses of water in a day. Another good way to prevent and treat UTIs is with the help of cranberry juice which has powerful antioxidants that flush toxins out of your system effectively. You will, however, need to ensure that the cranberry juice is fresh and natural, without any sweeteners.
  2. Hygiene: Keeping yourself clean is one of the most important ways in which you can avoid UTI. It is best to clean from front to back, rather than the other way, so that you drive away bacteria and dirt. Also, make sure that you wash your private parts with warm water infused with a few drops of normal liquid antibacterial, so that you can be sure that the bacteria do not get a chance to thrive and affect your system. Also, remember to use soaps, washes and creams that have a mild formula, rather than a harsh chemical concoction. Hygiene for this area of the body includes keeping it dry.
  3. Diet: Your diet should have plenty of fluids and lemons or other citrus food that are rich in vitamin c, as this is a good vitamin to keep bacteria at bay. Also, you should eliminate sweet and refined products to ensure that you do not contract UTI. Other foods to avoid include caffeine and alcohol.
  4. Clothing: Wear airy and cotton based undergarments that are breathable and have a soft texture. This non abrasive type clothing can also help in keeping the area dry, so that bacteria does not get a chance to develop, as they typically need a damp environment for growth. Change your undergarments twice a day, if need be, and avoid wearing trousers and shorts that are too tight.

These tips and many others including urinating as soon as the urge sets in, can help in fighting the risk of contracting UTI during pregnancy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Hello,
I just want to increase ma ejaculation period. I ejaculate with in 2 minutes. And I get sexually aroused very ...
Dear Lybrate user, Premature ejaculation is a very common phenomenon experienced by most males at some point of time in their lives. So it is ok if you experience it once in a while. However, if you still want to increase the time period before ejaculation there are certain ways that might help. 1. While being intimate with your partner, try to be in the present and do not worry about ejaculating as that thought in itself can make you feel anxious and interfere with your performance. 2. When you feel aroused, take deep breaths and try to maintain calm. 3. Shift your focus on your partner rather than monitoring and analysing how your body is reacting. Try these methods and see if they help. Otherwise, consulting a clinical psychologist on one to one basis would also help as the reason for premature ejaculation could be better understood and the subsequent treatment comprising of specific therapies and techniques could be provided. Best wishes.

Hi doctors. How many grams of sugar and carbohydrate can a pridibatic person can eat in a day. Is honey good and safe for pridibatic person? please suggest. Thanx.

Hi doctors. How many grams of sugar and carbohydrate can a pridibatic person can eat in a day. Is honey good and safe...
Mr. lybrate-user, It is difficult to answer about how many grams of sugar and carbs to be eaten. Basically if one is in a pre-diabetes state, then over all caloric intake has to be restricted to meet the exact requirement based on - Ideal body weight X 25 calories per kg / day. In your case IBW should be around 60 kgs. So 60 X 25 cal /Kg = 1500 calories, that means your total dietary intake should be 1500 cals per day. It best to avoid sugar or jaggery or sweets in total. Honey is also similar to sugar, there is hardly any difference. It is supposed to give some additional anti-oxidents. But only a small quantity should be used. Complex carbs like whole grain products are best. Do not use maida, pasta, bakery items, junk foods, sugary aerated drinks, pastries etc. Avoid deep fried foods and fructose corn syrup containing products and highly processed packaged products. Consume more of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Daily exercise of at least 1 hour is necessary. Thanks.

You can feel weak due to lack of essential nutrients, not getting enough sleep, a weak immune system, excessive drinking, skipping meals, emotional stress, and too much physical labor. Persistent weakness can be caused by health problems like anemia, arthritis, hypothyroidism, a sleep disorder, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, diabetes and heart disease. In these cases, it is very important to find out the exact cause behind your weakness. To feel energetic and refreshed in life, you must exercise daily for at least 30 minutes, maintain your ideal body weight, follow a good diet, sleep properly, drink water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated, avoid alcohol and stop smoking if you do .

Head ache can be of many reasons and the commonest is visual refractive error of eyes, Checking eyes and correcting errors can cure headaches, similarly the cause can be migraine and tension. Tension relieving methods and migraine medication can sure these. This includes the blood vessels, muscles and nerves of the head and neck. They may also result from changes in chemical activity in the brain. Primary headaches can occur when pain-sensitive structures in the head do not work properly. Common primary headaches include migraines, cluster headaches and tension headaches. Headache is a broad term that encompasses many different things. Headaches are pains that occur in any region of the head; they can occur on both sides the head or be isolated to a certain location. Headaches can radiate across the head from a central point or have a pincering vise-like quality. They can be sharp, throbbing or dull, appear gradually or suddenly and last for multiple days or less than an hour.4 There are multiple ways to define headaches. The International Headache Society (IHS) categorize headaches as primary headaches or secondary headaches, depending on what has caused them 1) Primary headaches Primary headaches are stand-alone illnesses caused directly by the overactivity of, or problems with, structures in the head that are pain-sensitive. This includes the blood vessels, muscles and nerves of the head and neck. They may also result from changes in chemical activity in the brain. Primary headaches can occur when pain-sensitive structures in the head do not work properly. Common primary headaches include migraines, cluster headaches and tension headaches. Some types of headache can be both primary and secondary as they may be an isolated issue or a result of another condition or illness. Such headaches can involve:  Direct physical stimuli, such as temperature and external pressure  Pain over the scalp (epicranial)  Physical exertion  Other miscellaneous headaches. 2) Secondary headaches Secondary headaches are headaches that are symptoms of another condition that stimulates the pain-sensitive nerves of the head. There are a vast number of different conditions that can cause secondary headaches, ranging in severity from an alcohol-induced hangover to a brain tumor. Secondary headaches can be the result of serious conditions such as stroke, but can equally be a consequence of eating cold food too quickly. In addition to those two examples, the following list should serve to illustrate the variety of different conditions that can cause secondary headaches:  Blood clots  Brain freeze (ice cream headaches)  Carbon monoxide poisoning  Concussion  Dehydration  Glaucoma  Influenza  Overuse of pain medication (rebound headaches)  Panic attacks  Stroke. As headaches can be a symptom of a serious condition, it is important to seek medical advice if headaches become more severe, regular or persistent. For example, if the headache is more painful and disruptive than previous headaches, worsens or fails to improve with medication or is accompanied by other symptoms such as confusion, fever, sensory changes and stiffness, a health care provider should be contacted.
