My question is from ENT Surgeon, I had my surgery of a right ear, as there was a fungal infection in my ear due to which some type of bone was damaged in my ear, that was replaced in a surgery. Its been 12 years till now, but as the time is increasing, my hearing power is getting lower of my right ear. Infact, now my hearing power is almost nil. What should I do? I am now afraid of going for surgery again. Is there any treatment, or some meditation, that can help me cure this problem?

Hi dear, my advice to you was to do your audiometry check up first, then the audiologist will tell you a better treatment option for you. The bone removed was mastoid bone due to infection, so do not go for another surgery. It may lead to serious complications.

Hope while he was fitted with hearing aids, you have done the speech therapy. If not then you can try it now. But best results. Only obtained during the crucial age of speech language development.(3-5 years). Start speech therapy soon. This will help a bit.

First and foremost you need to get tested your hearing sensitivity by consulting audiologist near by. According to audiometry finding we can diagnose whether it is curable or permanent loss. Treatment follows accordingly.

Doctor mujhe kuchh dino se mouth me namak ka swad bilkul fika lag raha hai jabki baki sab cheezon ka swad bilkul theek lag raha hai. Iska kya karan ho sakta hai or kya upchar hai ?

Jivha bodhak kapha ka sthan hai. namak ka swad nahi lag raha iska matlab, kapha ka vikar hai. Sabse pehle vaman karma karvaiye, uske baad gandush aur kaval dharan. Kuchh hi dino mein aaram aa jaega. Kisi panchakarma expert ki rai lein ya hamein call karein.

I have been diagnosed with moderate conductive hearing loss. The doctor has advised that I need a procedure - to be exact, stapedectomy. My hearing loss started after my pregnancy and I understand that it may be due to my genetics as well. My question is, how safe is this procedure and will my normal life change afterwards? I am a health freak and I love gymming, aerobics and constantly move around. Will my life change?

Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (B.A.S.L.P)

You can lead a normal life after stapedectomy. Hearing improvement depends on the amount of boneconduction affected and intactness of cochlear haircells. So donot worry about surgery or its side affects.

I do not hear any sound from my left ear. Already visited too many doctors in Hooghly, Burwan in West Bengal, but problem is not recovered. I am suffering from this problems last 1 year. I have no pain & no discharge from this ear. Result of audiometry hearing test is Left mild conductive type hearing loff.

Ph.D

If it is mild conductive hearing loss you would be able to hear sounds above 40db. That means you can hear sounds in left ear if it is slightly loud. Any good ent surgeon should be able to treat you.

Yes fortunately nerve weakness cannot be cured. Depending on your type and degree of loss audiologist will suggest you a suitable hearing aid as per your need. Use of hearing aid will keep nerve and brain cells active, hence further progression will slow down. Hearing aid doesn't cure hearing problem, it is just an aid to reduce it's effect.

Hi. Just to give you the accurate information. Hearing loss can have only severity like either severe or profound loss it cannot be chronic. When your loss is sensorineural it cannot be reveresed nor can be regained by using any supplements. You can hear the world better only with a hearing device.

Hi lybrate-user from your description, it seems like a condition of serous otitis media which is very common after having cold. Start taking steam inhalation and anti allergic tablet. Also instill saline nasal spray in both nostrils. Don't worry, it'll get better. It will take time. May be 5-7 days more.

I'm working out for 2 years and now I'm looking forward to take protein supplements I.E. Whey protein powder, please ...
Hye. Thankyou for the query. Firstly it is very important to understand that your diet has to be good fist. Just working out does not justify supplementation. Supplementation means adding to the basic. So, if your diet is not well planned then supplementation is of no use because it will just fulfill your basic requirements and not help add more. You are underweight so it's crucial that the additional proteins are not wasted. So, if your diet is good and your workout is intense enough supplementation can be taken. Opt for 100% whey concentrate. Protein supplement may not help in isolation and may have to be combined with a carb source as well which totally depends on your workout. Ideally it is advisable to take supplements within 15 minutes of workout, about a scoop or two. Adding it preworkout or as a late night meal will totally depend on your workout, your requirement and your present food intake.

Looks like wax in your ear which has hardened. If there is no history of watery discharge in the past from that ear. Wax dissolving ear drops are available and can be used for some time. If pain persists and blockage increase see an ent specialist for proper examination and further treatment like removal or syringing etc.

Get audiometry done. Audiologist will be able to tell you if you have hearing problem in one ear or both and why. Percentage of hearing loss in each ear and if it can be cured with medicine/surgery or hearing instrument. You need to consult ent surgeon too depending on diagnosis.
