I am 26 yrs old and I have a habit of smoking. I want to quit it completely. Please suggest any medicine or any other way to do so.

(MRCPSYCH-UK), MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Hyderabad
If you are an occasional smoker - with public messages, health awareness programs and your own doctors advice, you can quit. If you are a regular smoker, motivational therapy with a trained psychotherapist or a psychiatrist and enormous will power will help you quit. If you are a diseased smoker, consult a de addiction psychiatrist at the earliest. He may give you anti-addiction medications and de addiction treatment. Medicines like bupropion and verinicline also help in treating addiction of smoking. One can get the prescription of the same from a qualified psychiatrist.

Loss of interest in sex can be due to medication or depression. If it is due to depression it will improve with venlor xr, otherwise it will worsen. Antidepressants without effects on sex are available such as bupron, trazonil, vilano and so on. Consult a psychiatrist on this!

My mother is suffering from bipolar disorder or maniac where she suffers from depression. Please suggest a method for permanent cure since the medication only helps to fall a sleep.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
This is a very debilitating disease and your mother has suffered with it for a long time. At her age, it makes it quite difficult, primarily because of her lack of motivation. I am assuming this to be so. I hope I am wrong. Any way what can be done, which I am sure has not been implemented so far, is that she needs to work with a counselor in tandem with the medication. The talk therapy will train her in certain skills and techniques which will stand her in good stead to cope with the daily challenges in life. Minus that she is only dependent on the medication which is essential to stabilize the chemical imbalance in her brain. Through the therapy, however, she will be in a relationship and will progress in her condition depending on her cooperation. With this combination and with a three-year episode-free progress she can be considered for weaning off of medication, very gradually and in a staggered manner.

Hello, doctor I am a 18 year boy. I am in relationship for 2 years. I love my partner too much. There is nothing more important in my life then her. But I don't know what happened to her. First I should tell you that her father is druggist and don type man. I am very cultural and I don't like her father. She know this. But don't have any problem. If he got that we both in relationship then he will kill her daughter. Since last 2 months she does not live happily with me she always fight with me. And she is giving more importance to other people than me. And just trying to leave me. When people whom she gives more importance cheat her she cries before me and shows me anger. She tells that this is her right on me to get angry. But when I got angry she. Just forget it. She never call me first if she made mistake though I have to call her and sorry. She loves her father too much. But before this she has told me that no one in world is more important than me for her. It was a time when she can not leave a single day without me and now I am shocked by her behavior. Some times I beg her for not to fight and plzz give me back my sweet heart. But she don't. What is happening to her. What should I do doctor. I will suicide if she don't change her behave. Plzzzz help me how to treat her to ger her love back. Plzzz help.

Dear lybrate-user . Managing relationships is not easy. It is a skill and one improves with practice and experience. You must consult a psychotherapist or a psychiatrist in your area (preferably one who practices CBT - cognitive behavioural therapy) or a school/college counsellor. Please try to learn from that expert what is happening in your relationship and what if at all are the mistakes you could be making. Examine with the therapist your goals and motivations in pursuing this relationship. Be patient with yourself, be honest with your therapist, do the work and grow because of the experience. Once you develop insight into your problem you will see the solution clearly and you will know that putting your life at stake here is not wise. Good luck.

Dear Lybrate user, Welcome to Lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. The best method is always using your will power to quit substance abuse. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

Hi, I am feeling depressed. I'm a student. I'm not able give time for me and people and my studies. Even though I stu...
First of all you don't manage people, you relate to them. Now this is very important: learning to live with people and to love them too. The ultimate test of a personality is in the social context: what happens to us when we are with people? A greater test than that is when we are with members of the opposite sex. And the greatest test is of course what happens to us when we bed and board with a member of the opposite sex in marriage! It is really very simple: according to the relationship we enjoyed or not at home (which is the nursery of relating to people), we will tend to behave in the same fashion in society. Very simply pit: we must love other people as much as we love ourselves. Love is measured in terms of the time we are willing to give someone else. Therefore time is precious and time management is really very precious. You must learn to manage time by balancing urgency versus importance: urgency always takes precedence over importance. Now for your memory enhancement: I suspect that the adolescent issues with regard to hormones may be affecting your ability to concentrate and remember. When the hormones play up, it lasts for a period of close to two years and during that time you could be influenced by three signs directly impacted by the chemical: you will tend to become aggressive and rebellious, you will become sexually active, and you will have acne and pimple problems. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too.The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Now take you pick!

Hello most people with anxiety disorders need psychotherapy or medications to get anxiety under control, lifestyle changes also can make a difference. Here's what you can do: Keep physically active. Develop a routine so that you're physically active most days of the week. Exercise is a powerful stress reducer. It may improve your mood and help you stay healthy. Start out slowly and gradually increase the amount and intensity of your activities. Avoid alcohol and other sedatives. These substances can worsen anxiety. Quit smoking and cut back or quit drinking coffee. Both nicotine and caffeine can worsen anxiety. Use relaxation techniques. Visualization techniques, meditation and yoga are examples of relaxation techniques that can ease anxiety. Make sleep a priority. Do what you can to make sure you're getting enough sleep to feel rested. If you aren't sleeping well, see your doctor. Eat healthy. Hello, after a breakup i'm unable to come out of it. I'm unable to control my feelings towards him but he is not even...
Having a" break up" in a love relationship is almost like" losing a person forever" your loss is understandable. But if you both have made your minds to say good bye, you will have to give yourself and him both a chance to fulfil your decisions. It is going to take some time before you get back to life again. It seems from your story that you are finding it more difficult to get through it. Though there is no full proof formula fir going through a break up, it advisable that you follow some suggestions. Never stay alone, be with friends that make you laugh and make you happy, avoid friends that weep with you, pursue your hobbies, lure yourself by watching your favourite movies with friends, going on vacations with family etc. Avoid finding refuge in harmful ways of coping like drinking, smoking, crying out aloud, finding temporary partners for a fling etc. That does more harm than good. If you still feel unable to cope up, consult a therapist or a psychiatrist for counselling and help. Take care.

HOME REMEDIES FOR ANXIETY.

Master in Psychology, MD - Ayurveda, Dems, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda,
HOME REMEDIES FOR ANXIETY.

home remedies for anxiety

1. Chamomile

Chamomile helps calm you down and relieves anxiety. According to a 2009 study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, chamomile (Matricaria retutica) may help reduce anxiety symptoms in those suffering from mild to moderate Generalized Anxiety Disorder. It also promotes relaxation and drowsiness due to its mild sedative affect.
•Steep two to three teaspoons of dried chamomile, preferably German chamomile, in a cup of hot water for three to five minutes. Strain it and, if you wish, add honey and cinnamon to it. Drink this tea a few times a day for about one month or until you see improvement.
•Alternatively, take this herb in supplement form. Consult your doctor for proper dosage. Adults can generally take 400 to 1600 mg capsules in divided doses daily, or one to four ml of liquid extract three times a day.

2. Oranges

The uplifting smell of oranges and orange peels helps calm the nerves. Moreover, citrus fragrances are believed to help fight depression and boost immunity.
•Simply peeling an orange and inhaling its aroma can help uplift your mood. For better results, put a few orange peels in a pan of water and allow it to simmer. Inhale the refreshing smell to do away with your anxiety. Repeat as needed.
•You can also drink one cup of fresh orange juice mixed with one teaspoon of honey and a pinch of nutmeg powder. Drink it daily for a few days or weeks.

3. Rosemary

Rosemary is another popular home remedy for anxiety due to its calming effect. Furthermore, it stimulates circulation, relaxes the respiratory and digestive muscles, and has a positive effect on memory and alertness.
•Add one or two teaspoons of dried rosemary to one cup of hot water. Let it steep for about 10 minutes, and then strain it. Drink this tea daily until you are satisfied with the results.
•You can also use rosemary incense or add a few drops of rosemary essential oil in an aromatherapy diffuser or vaporizer.

4. Lavender

Lavender induces relaxation and relieves depression. It has a calming and soothing effect on the nervous system due to its bioactive constituents such as linalool and linalyl acetate.

Studies also indicate that it may be helpful in reducing anxiety, but further research is needed to draw conclusions about clinical anxiety disorders.
•Boil two cups of water, add two to four drops of lavender essential oil to it, and inhale the steam to ease anxiety. Repeat as needed.
•Alternatively, mix three or four drops of lavender oil in one teaspoon of almond oil, olive oil or any base oil. Use it as a massage oil on your neck, back and shoulders. Repeat daily or a few times a week until your condition improves.

5. Nutmeg

Nutmeg is an aromatic spice that promotes relaxation, fights depression and works as a muscle relaxant. Hence, it is great for treating anxiety, stress and depression. It is also believed to help improve sleep quality.

Simply inhale the smell of nutmeg oil to uplift your mood and reduce brain exhaustion. You can also add one-quarter teaspoon of nutmeg powder in your food on a regular basis.

Note: Excessive use of nutmeg is not recommended, especially for those who have psychiatric conditions.

6. Lemon Balm

Lemon balm, a member of the mint family, works as a mild relaxant and nerve tonic. Hence, it has been used for ages to reduce anxiety, promote sleep and improve appetite. You can combine it with valerian, green tea, lavender, catnip or other herbs.
•Steep one teaspoon of dried lemon balm in hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure the tea pot is covered so that the aromatic oils do not escape. Drink a cup of this tea before going to bed for a couple of weeks. Do not take it for more than two weeks at a time.
•Alternatively, take this herb in supplement form. Generally, it is suggested to take 400 mg capsules twice daily. Consult your doctor for the proper dosage to meet your needs.

Note: Do not use this herb in excess; it may make you more anxious.

7. Almonds

Almonds are loaded with nutrients, especially omega-3 fatty acids that improve your mood and help alleviate anxiety and depression. The anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids fight cellular inflammation that causes a breakdown in signaling between brain cells.
1.Soak 10 almonds in water overnight.
2.The next morning, peel off the skin and grind the almonds.
3.Add this paste and a pinch of nutmeg and ginger to one cup of milk.
4.Drink it daily or a few times a week until you see improvement.

8. Fennel

fennel seeds

This wonderful herb calms the nerves and helps ease anxiety. It contains volatile oils that have an anxiolytic (anxiety-relieving) effect. Also, it reduces gastrointestinal symptoms that often accompany anxiety.

CONSULT FOR MORE QUERIES AND HERBAL TREATMENT.

Dear Sonali. Welcome to Lybrate. Alcohol and drugs ultimately affect and trigger the pleasure center of the brain. Whenever these substances are used, the pleasure center get activated. Then on habituation, the pleasure center asks for more and more of the substance, just because it gets pleasure. De addiction therapy can help the addict. Take care.
