I would advice you to avoid standing and weight bearing for long periods of time. Also try to sleep sideways with a pillow in between your legs. Use calpol and duphalac to help with your pain and constipation. Increse the amount of water intake and fibres in your diet.

First you need to confirm pregnancy by doing a pregnancy test. If positive you need a scan to see the site and duration. Only then can termination be discussed.

Don't worry if it is non offensive sticky like egg white discharge and there is no itching and rashes, then it might be just a healthy discharge. Rest of your weakness and all you need oral supplement and you can take Homoeopathic treatment.

Are you feeding the baby from both breasts equally. If yes and even then if there is so much difference in the size of breasts then go for ultrasuond of both breast.

Hi, I have a baby boy 6month and 2weeks but my periods didnt came yet, why?

CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy, MRCOG, MD, DGO
Gynaecologist,
Hi, I have a baby boy 6month and 2weeks but my periods didnt came yet, why?
If you have been having unprotected intercourse please do a urine pregnancy test done first. If it is negative I would advise you to start using regular contraception like novelon for the next three weeks. Then give a 1 week break. Your periods should start. Periods can sometimes be delayed after delivery especially if you are breast feeding.

My wife is 23 years old and pregnant now. There is a myth that says if belly line is straight from above belly button till abdomen, then its time to deliver the baby. How far is that true. Please suggest. Thank you.

Hello, This is to an extent acceptable as the baby by term enters the pelvis in case of cephalic presentation and the back of the baby lines the mother's abdomen and can give a perception of straight abdomen but that doesn't indicate that labour would get initiated sooner.

Milk - Should You Stand or Sit While Drinking it?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)

Milk - Should You Stand or Sit While Drinking it?

Have you heard of a controversy over, whether to drink milk standing or sitting? There are some scientific reasons, according to which, drinking milk in a sitting position is better and healthier than having it while standing. According to Ayurveda, milk is considered to be a vital and precious food item, and hence, you must ensure that you are drinking milk in the right posture.

You should sit while drinking milk
Scientifically, drinking milk while standing causes the fluid hit the lower part of your esophagus. Over time, this may result in the dilation or relaxation of the sphincter which connects the stomach to the esophagus. This may lead to a health condition known as GERD or Gastroesphegal reflux disease.

From Ayurvedic point of view, drinking milk or any fluid in a standing position is forbidden and advised against. Many scholars suggest that this norm exists because of health reasons. Moreover, drinking milk in a standing position may cause another issue. If you gulp down half a liter of milk, it goes into your stomach. The stomach’s capacity is between 900 to 1500 millimeters and on the consumption of the milk, it gets half full all of a sudden. This may cause the stomach to pulsate because of the volume of milk and it will also distend the stomach capacity because of weight. This may cause  colic shock resulting in intense abdominal pain.
If you sit down and drink milk, sip by sip, the stomach will not distend because of the support it gets from the stomach cavity, which is in turn is supported by your thighs.

Benefits of drinking milk
In Ayurveda, milk is a highly beneficial food, having several benefits. They are as follows:

  1. Milk is calming and cooling, which helps in balancing Vata and Pitta.
  2. According to Ayurveda, milk is considered to be the most calming and nourishing food.
  3. It is a natural food for human beings, which they are accustomed to right from birth.
  4. Milk is an aphrodisiac and helps in vitalizing the reproductive system, improving your sex drive and quality of sperms in men.
  5. When you want to correct obesity, it is a perfect food for satisfying hunger and thirst.
  6. Milk causes a sense of soothing and satisfaction in many different types of illnesses and diseases.
  7. Milk is essential for your mind, for children and is also used for treating depression.

Although many people argue that there is no scientific reason associated with sitting and drinking milk to be safe, it has been scientifically proven that it is better to eat or drink anything while sitting, instead of standing. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a ayurveda and ask a free question.

Achilles Tendon - How To Deal With It

Achilles Tendon pain is an orthopedic condition that can originate from tears and ruptures to the AchillesTendon, which is known as one of the strongest and also the longest tendon in the human body. It is a band of tissues that decides the quality of your movements and motions to a great extent, as it connects the heel with the calf. Therefore, any injury to this tendon can decrease the strength and support to the muscles and create a painful situation. So how can you deal with this pain? Read on to know more.

  • Rice Therapy: Rice is a commonly used term by orthopedic specialist. It refers to Rest, Ice, Compression with a bandage, and finally Elevation. The patient must take lots of rest as well as use ice packs to deal with the injury and acute pain. Finally, the area must be compressed with a bandage and kept elevated on cushions.
  • Surgery: For very severe cases, the orthopedic specialist can recommend surgery as well. This kind of surgery aims at reattaching the displaced or ruptured tendon which may have reached such a fate through a sports or any other kind of injury. The doctor may also place your leg in a cast for a few weeks to keep it at complete rest.
  • Pain Medication: The doctor can also prescribe pain relievers that contain Ibuprofen as well as acetaminophen or even naproxen. These medicines should be taken in moderation as per the doctor's prescription. Usually, this kind of medication is taken only when unbearable pain is experienced by the patient.
  • Thermotherapy or Heat Treatment: The use of heat for chronic pain or even pain that has been ailing for over 48 hours is known as thermotherapy. This therapy uses heating pads and hot water bottles to help relieve the pain. One must be careful while applying anything hot to the site of the injury. Use a towel to wrap the hot water bottle or heating pad so that there is no scalding or leaking on to the skin.
  • Footwear: It is important to prevent continuous injury and pain to the already injured Achilles tendon. To do this, you must wear supportive and comfortable footwear that has heel lifts and other customized orthotics built into the shoes.

Taking care of Achilles Tendon pain is a matter of taking various precautions and supportive actions that lead to better healing.
