I am 28 years old male, I gave up tabacoo 3 months ago, does still I have a risk for oral cancer due to tabacoo? If yes what is the solution.

It is good that you are abstaining. Though your risk does not reduce at 3 months, it will progressively reduce further. Keep it up.

You can consult the doctor. Before that just check your mouth opens well or not. You also check for white patches in your oral cavity. To prevent oral cancer you can also take vitamin a in large doses upto 60, 000 i. U. You can take seven seas or seacode.

Can I get my 11 year old doctor vaccinated for Cervical Cancer? What is the cost of the vaccination?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, you can ofcourse get your 11 years old daughter vaccinated for cervical cancer vaccine. Cervical cancer vaccines prevent individuals from cervical cancers caused by hpv viruses and have to be administered to adolescent girls prior to exposure. Usually three shots are given 1, 2 6 months. Two main brands are available and the cost varies from 6 to 8 thousand approx. For three injections it may vary from company to company. One must remember that cervical cancers may be caused by multiple factors and hpv is one of them. Others may be hormonal factors like early menarchy, too many children, poor hygiene of local area, late menopause, early marriages, immuno- compromised conditions, smoking etc, so one has to still go for routine screening by pap smear despite vaccination.

Cervical Cancer - Why You Must Get It Screened?

DGO , MBBS
Gynaecologist, Pune
Cervical Cancer - Why You Must Get It Screened?

Are you aware of cervical cancer, which develops in the cervix of a woman? The cervix is the entrance to the womb from the vagina, and unusual vaginal bleeding accounts for being the primary symptom of this condition. Although abnormal vaginal bleeding may indicate several other conditions, you should get diagnosed for cervical cancer.

Symptoms
The various symptoms of cervical cancer are as follows:

  1. Abnormal and unusual bleeding from the vagina between periods, after having sex, and after menopause in women
  2. Pain in the pelvis or lower abdomen
  3. Pain while having sex
  4. Abnormal vaginal discharge

Diagnosis

  1. Over several years, cells lining the cervix go through various changes. In some rare cases, these cells, which are precancerous, may turn out to be cancerous. These cell changes in the cervix can be detected early, and proper treatment is capable of reducing the development of cervical cancer.
  2. A screening for cervical cancer should be carried out for diagnosing this condition. Cervical screening, or smear test involves the study of sample cells taken from the cervix. The sample cells are observed under a microscope for detecting cervical cancer or other abnormalities. An abnormal cervical screening does not always indicate cervical cancer, as abnormal results can occur because of an infection or because of the presence of precancerous cells that are treatable.
  3. Screening should be undertaken by women of all ages. It is recommended for women between the ages of 25 to 49 to undergo this cervical cancer screening once in every three years. For women between the age of 50 to 64, screening should be carried out once in five years. For women above the age of 65, screening is recommended for the ones who did not have a screening since the age of 50 and for the ones who had abnormal test results in the past.

Treatment

  • Cervical cancer can be successfully treated by a surgical procedure, if it is diagnosed at an initial stage. In some cases, the womb can be left in place, while it may be removed in some other cases. The surgical procedure used for removing the womb is known as hysterectomy.
  • Radiotherapy is an alternative surgical procedure that is undertaken by women with cervical cancer, at an early stage. In more serious cases, a combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy is used for the treatment of cervical cancer. Although quite effective, some treatment procedures for cervical cancer are associated with side effects such as infertility and early menopause.

It is recommended for you to consult a doctor on experiencing any symptom of cervical cancer. Early diagnosis prevents the condition from getting worse and treatment can be started quickly.

General Surgeon,
I am 65 years old have prostrate problem Dr. prescribed lifelong pill still advise alternative.
Please, get the following investigations- 1) Ultrasound of prostate including post void urine volume. 2) PSA 3) Urine exam. Treatment depends on your symptoms and these reports. Mild problem can be managed with medicines. If you are having very much increased frequency of urination, and specially at night, then the definite treatment is endoscopic surgery (TURP)

Suffering from pricking pain on right breast here and there .also having pain near armpit that come and goes. Mostly pain on front part of breast. Am prior to periods and also breastfeeding.

MD - Diabetology, Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), MBBS
Endocrinologist, Kochi
As you have given your gender as "male" I assume you have asked this question on behalf of your wife. Also, you haven't mentioned her age. I assume she is young, as she is breastfeeding. Many women have a slight discomfort in their breasts, commonly during periods and less commonly, during breastfeeding. Some might have even pain. However, it is still worthwhile to consult a surgeon immediately.
