My wife aged 34 years has a tendered left breast for one month. After mammography a cyst about 0.5 cm has seen. Is it the cause of tenderness or other cause. Can it be cancer. Please suggest.

Oncologist, Mumbai
Breast cyst can be a cause of pain but it's too small a size. Clear cyst are not cancerous but need to rule out there is no other echogenic particles in cyst nor bloody on aspiration of cyst.

Mr. Ashwini has been gone through MAJOR OPERATION for removing the cancer part in rectum after treatment by radiotherapy and Cameo therapy. But now green color vomiting after the 6th day of his major operation.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology, Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (FRSTM & H)
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, green coloured vomiting may be the after effect of extensive surgery and chemotherapy. With the passage of time it will go away unless there was severe liver involvement of liver and gall bladder which is a common finding in the advanced stages of large bowel cancers. You need only symptomatic management.

My grandmother is suffering from breast cancer. Is there is medicine without chemo?

Fellow Breast Surgery (MUHS), DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
Oncologist, Aurangabad
Hello. Whether a patient receives chemotherapy or not in case of breast cancer will totally depend on the stage of disease at presentation to the doctor. If your doctor has prescribed chemotherapy, there are very good chances that it is mandatory. There are very few but well identified instances when chemotherapy is either not required or can be avoided safely or avoided in view of risk of side effects being more possible than the benefit. Other than stage, the things that influence this decision, are age, any other diseases like diabetes or high blood pressure, etc. The biology of cancer e. G. If er, pr positive disease and whether the disease has already spread but not causing any functional harm. Such a decision has to be taken by a well learned and well experienced doctor, along with an informed decision. From patient. I can guide more only with more of patients details.

In case of 4th stage Cancer (Carcinoma gallbladder) if we are going for Kemo therapy then will it increase the life expectations or only control this disease? Also is Kemo advisable for a weak person? Thank you.

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Oncologist, Delhi
Palliative chemotherapy is the most suitable option, provided, patient should be able to tolerate it. The expected goals are prolongation of life and some control over the rate of growth of cancer. The treating medical oncologist will be in the best position to judge, what chemotherapy will be suitable for the patient.

I am suffering from Hodgkin lymphoma from last 1year. I want to ask what are the causes of this and how can we leave from this and what types of food I need to eat and in how much time take to healthy me?

MBBS, DNB ( Radiation Oncology)
Oncologist, Mumbai
Hello, hodgkins lymphoma is usually a treatable cancer which responds very well to chemotherapy and radiation. Depending on the stage the number of cycles of chemotherapy and radiation dose is decided. Many times there may be history of exposure to radiation in childhood and many times it just happens due to some genetic mutations too. You should have a balanced diet, with adequate proteins, green leafy vegetables, fruits, lots of antioxidants. Hope that helps!
