All About Dental Implants

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
All About Dental Implants

Dental implants are surgical fixtures that are inserted into the jawbone to allow fusing over a span of few months. The implant works as a root replacement for a missing tooth. Eventually, this artificially placed tooth root helps in holding the bridge (partial denture) or the replacement tooth firmly. Dental implants are even designed to match your natural teeth, rendering a strong foundation to both the removable and the fixed replacement teeth.

Are you a candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants are used to replace a single tooth, several teeth, or all of the teeth. The goal of teeth replacement is to restore function as well as esthetics.

When it comes to tooth replacement, dental implants is of the three options available. Deciding on which option to choose depends on many factors. Specifically for dental implants, these factors include:

  • location of missing tooth or teeth,

  • quantity and quality of the jawbone where the dental implant is to be placed,

  • health of the patient,

  • cost,

  • patient preference.

A dental surgeon examines the area to be considered for the dental implant and makes a clinical assessment of whether the patient is a good candidate for a dental implant.

Here are a few advantages of getting a dental implant done:

  1. Improved Appearance: Dental implants provide an almost natural look to the teeth. Since they are designed in a way to amalgamate with your bone, they subsequently become permanent.

  2. Enhanced Speech: Dental implants let you speak effortlessly and without the scare of your teeth slipping inside the mouth and meddling with your speech; which is otherwise a common phenomenon with ill-fitted dentures.

  3. More Comfort: Since the implants become a part of you, they do away with the hassles accompanying removable dentures.

  4. Easier Eating: Sliding dentures might pose difficulty while chewing. Dental implants help you with an almost painless eating experience owing to the fact that they function just the way your original teeth would.

  5. Improved Oral Health: There is no need of reduction or alteration of the surrounding teeth in order to support the implants. Hence most of the teeth are left just as they are, improving one’s oral hygiene.

  6. Durability: Implants are tough and resistant, and can last a lifetime if taken proper care of.

  7. Convenience: Dental implants spare one the inconvenience that is so common with removable dentures and at the time of fixing them to their place with messy adhesives.

Healthy gums and strong jaw bones are the only two requisites for a dental implant. Maintaining good oral hygiene and visiting or consult a dentist regularly should be at the top of the priority list after getting the implants done. However, one needs to put in the same amount and quality of care (read brushing and flossing) to the dental implants as one would’ve had to his/her original teeth. A thorough rinse with the help of an antibacterial mouth wash is a must along with periodic dental check-ups.

You get your UTI treated by Urine C/s examination and proper antibiotic course. Once your UTI is treated, you take 2-3 weekly courses of Nuforce 3Kit (taken one day per week only) to get rid of fungal and nonspecific bacterial infections. Then do pelvic exercises and general exercises to boost your physical stamina. Now your sex partner should be very gentle and cooperative. He should do proper and long foreplay before inserting and should use the posture that suits you best. You may use doggy style or in mission keeeping your legs on shoulder of your partner so that you don't get stress on legs. Initially you may enjoy oral sex (cunnilingus) and clitoral orgasm to boost your sexual desire. The lack of sexual desire is psychological and failure to have proper pleasureful sex may further diminish your desire. Hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) or inhibited sexual desire (ISD) is considered a sexual dysfunction and is characterized as a lack or absence of sexual fantasies and desire for sexual activity, as judged by a clinician. For this to be regarded as a disorder, it must cause marked distress or interpersonal difficulties and not be better accounted for by another mental disorder, a drug (legal or illegal), or some other medical condition. A person with ISD will not start, or respond to their partner's desire for, sexual activity. Other terms used to describe the phenomenon include sexual aversion and sexual apathy. There are various subtypes. HSDD can be general (general lack of sexual desire) or situational (still has sexual desire, but lacks sexual desire for current partner), and it can be acquired (HSDD started after a period of normal sexual functioning) or lifelong (the person has always had no/low sexual desire.) Treatment of HSSD: 1. Psychological counselling and guidance 2. Feeling of Pleasurable sexual activity may increase desire. 3. Testosterone supplementation is effective in the short-term 4.Flibanserin is the first medication approved for the treatment of HSDD. It is only slightly effective over placebo, having been found to increase the number of satisfying sexual events per month by 0.5 to 1 Previously it was not available in India but now it is available as Addyi (flibanserin) 100 mg tablets and may be tried. 3.

I hav severe head ache on my back of head in right side and near to front. What is the reason for that.
Few things related to headache so that we can plan the treatment accordingly - if pain is associated with blurred or decreased vision than check your eye sight for refractive error - if the pain is associated with cold and fever than we have to rule out sinusitis as the cause and if the pain is pulsatile in nature and with a throbbing pain usually with an aura than we have to rule out migrane as the cause - if the pain is associated with neck problems than we have to rule out cervical spondylosis as the cause - if the pain is associated with either low or high bp or due to hyperacidity than we have to treat the cause after examination.

My husband has severe ear ache and was taking medicine for vertigo. .6 months. He hd stapedectomy done 20 years back....
Hi ear ache can be caused due to misalignment of jaw but you can't explain vertigo and neck pain with that. So I think vertigo and neck pain are related to each other while the ear pain is an isolated symptom. Also if the ear ache is in the same ear as that of the stapedectomy ear then we need to consider some tests to be done. Still I would suggest you to visit an orthodontist to rule out any misalignment and if it is not then take a reopinion of the ent specialist. Regards.

Sir, i have been suffering from hairfall from the past one year .I think the main reason for this is due to the water changes as i was shifted to another city for doing my b.Tech and staying here for approximately one and half years .The other reason i think was both my father and mother had very thin hair .So please give me solution.?

Vaidya Visharad
Sexologist, Narnaul
Hello Dear,According to Ayurveda, hair is a byproduct of bone formation. The factors responsible for building bones are also responsible for the hair re-growth. Ayurveda doctors believe that early hair loss is related to body type and the balance of the mind-body constitution (doshas). Excess pitta in the sebaceous gland, at the root of the hair, or folliculitis can make the person start losing hair. We loose hair after a certain growth and new hair replaces the older one, which means recycling of hair. Hair loss means losing more hair than you naturally lose. As our hair grows under a natural process, so we can take care of growth only by natural resources and methods. Visit us at www.Malhotraayurveda.Com

Stay Healthy

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Stay Healthy

Let's all break the taboo against psychiatry and accept it as any other field of Medicine. Let's all join and raise awareness and spread the message "Dignity in mental health" and treat people suffering from such illness with respect.

Join hands, help break the taboo.

Let me clear some common misconceptions we have about psychiatry today:

  • People suffering from mental illness are not "mentally disturbed" there are different kinds of problems and we should stop labelling them.
  • Psychiatric medications are NOT addictive!
  • You are "NOT WEAK" if you seek help of psychiatrist. In fact you are mentally strong and mature enough to understand you have a problem and will do what is right to solve it rather than running away from and issue
  • Illness is not under patients control it is not all  In their head!
  • Hypertension and diabetes are all long term illnesses we take medications for that them, then why not for depression and other psychiatric illnesses?
  • This is just an imbalance of neurochemicals, just treat it and lead a peaceful life.
  • Psychiatric illnesses are treatable.

Hope this helps and clears some doubts lingering in our minds.
