My wife has breast pain since last week. Our last child was born on January 2010 and she is not pregnant either. She have hyperthyroidism.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Pain in mammary gland during and after menses is very common and is related to hormone progesterone, which deposits extra water in breasts causing it pain. If the problem is too severe then 3 months course of medicine (low dose oc pills) can bring down the pain. Also you can take pain killers during that time.

This pill best works if taken as early as possible. Still failures are always there. Please check for pregnancy if you don't get your menses on time.

If you have not had sexual relation after the last normal period, then this may be a chance occurrence. But if you are unsure about that and the normal period gets delayed by over a week, do a urine test for pregnancy.

Hi, Lybrate-user, Infertility can be treated with medicine, surgery, artificial insemination, or assisted reproductive technology. Many times these treatments are combined. In most cases infertility is treated with drugs or surgery. Doctors recommend specific treatments for infertility based on: Test results, How long the couple has been trying to get pregnant, The age of both the man and woman, The overall health of the partners & Preference of the partners. Problems with fertility are diagnosed based on a couple’s inability to get pregnant after approximately 6 months to 1 year of regular intercourse without using contraception. Essentially there are three general categories which may cause infertility conditions: problems involving the woman’s egg, the man’s sperm or the anatomy required for getting the egg/sperm/embryo to the fallopian tubes/uterus for it to implant and develop. There are many treatments available for fertility depending on the problem that is preventing conception (i.e. Getting pregnant). Treatments range from non-medical lifestyle behaviors to medical or invasive surgical interventions. Some treatments may be aimed at improving a woman’s ability to ovulate, such as weight loss or medications. There are also fertility interventions which allow a doctor to operatively retrieve an egg for evaluation and/or implantation into the uterus. Other treatments might include using a donor egg, sperm or uterus (e.g. A surrogate to carry the pregnancy). There may be surgical treatments available if there is a blockage found in the woman’s fallopian tubes or something obstructing the uterus (for example, a septum or large fibroid masses). The first step in determining treatment options should always include a detailed discussion with your doctor.

Having irregular periods can mean a variation in the number of days you have your period or that your period arrives early, late or even skips a few months. FERTILE PHASE is the phase of a female's menstrual cycle when an egg (ovule) is released from the ovaries. In humans, ovulation occurs about midway through the menstrual cycle, after the follicular phase. The few days surrounding ovulation (from approximately days 10 to 18 of a 28 day cycle), constitute the most fertile phase. So if you have ejaculatory sexual inter course from day 10 from the first day of period and to day 20, the chances of pregnancy are much more. There are many determinants of pregnancy. You should be sexually matured. Your partner should be sexually matured. The period of your partner should be in the fertile stage. Female egg and male sperm cells should be healthy enough. Then female uterus should be capable to get conceived. If all these are satisfied, the pregnancy could be a result. Take care.

Hello Dr. My wife has given birth to one baby son on 13 june. 2012. But after that she is not getting pregnant. She is suffering from irregular period. Please help.

M.B.S.(HOMEO), MD - Homeopathy
Homeopath, Visakhapatnam
Irregular or abnormal ovulation accounts for 30% to 40% of all cases of infertility. Having irregular periods, no periods, or abnormal bleeding often indicates that you aren't ovulating, a condition known clinically as anovulation. Although anovulation can usually be treated with fertility drugs, it is important to be evaluated for other conditions that could interfere with ovulation, such as thyroid conditions or abnormalities of the adrenal or pituitary glands. Homeopathic treatment: pulsatilla is one of the basic remedy for this problem. When the periods (menstruation cycle) is disturbed i. E. Periods are not on time may be early or late and also there is a pain in lower abdomen (menstrual cramps). The patient is depressed or sad. Lower abdominal pains & cramps, if these symptoms are present this is the best remedy to be considered. Jonesia ashoka is another basic remedy for the disturbed periods. It is commonly used in most of the female problems. It regulates the menstrual cycle and put it on to the right track. Gossypium is another remedy when there is disturbed periods with lack of bleeding, periods are usually late, the patient is also anemic & has low iron. This remedy should be avoided if there is a chance of pregnancy because this remedy may start the bleeding. Sepia is the remedy to be used when there is lower abdominal pain present with the feeling that something is coming out of the lower part (vagina) & the patient feels better when she sits with the leg crossing each other. The patient has also the problem of leucorrhea before or after the periods. Natr mur is one of the best remedy when the patient is anemic, low iron and there are gaps in the period or the periods skips many days or months. This remedy should also be avoided if there is a chance of pregnancy. Trillium pend is used when the periods are very heavy & the bleeding is almost out of control, patient feels dizzy due to weakness, this remedy also works when the patient is pregnant & the bleeding started at once, it can help to stop the bleeding.
