I recommend to control your sugar level 1) a healthy and well balanced diet having regular meals. Divide your meals into 5 to 6 times. 2) one teaspoon of methi seeds soaked overnight in 100 ml of water is very effective in controlling diabetes 3) good fats such as omega-3 and monounsaturated fats (mufa) should be consumed as they are good for the body. 4) diet should be high in fiber. Let whole grain cereals & flour, salad vegetables, green leafy vegetables & fruits be an integral part of your meals.

Thanks for the query. When diabetes goes on for very long time (many years), most often the insulin producing beta cell activity goes down. So in many patients oral drugs may not be effective. Secondly if blood glucose remains high, that also causes damage to beta cells. Hence diabetes becomes totally uncontrolled. So in your case there has to be a re-look at the present treatment. Plus we will also have to look at diet and extent of daily exercise and weight reduction. So if you want me to guide specifically and also prescribe the drugs, then you need to come in a private conversation following details: current fasting, PP blood glucose level, HbA1c% exact dosage of medications and present diet as well as extent of exercise being done daily. Then I will be able to help. Thanks.

You are definitely diabetic and it may not any symptoms initially. You need treatment .Diabetes affects all organs in the body – Eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, In fact, from toe to hair. For diabetic control, patient and doctor should be in constant touch for regular follow up and advice. The common symptoms are :-Both types of diabetes have some of the same tell-tale warning signs. Hunger and fatigue. Your body converts the food you eat into glucose that your cells use for energy. But your cells need insulin to bring the glucose in. If your body doesn't make enough or any insulin, or if your cells resist the insulin your body makes, the glucose can't get into them and you have no energy. This can make you more hungry and tired than usual. Urinating more often and being thirstier. The average person usually has to pee between four and seven times in 24 hours, but people with diabetes may go a lot more. Dry mouth and itchy skin. Because your body is using fluids to make pee, there's less moisture for other things. You could get dehydrated, and your mouth may feel dry. Dry skin can make you itchy. Blurred vision. Changing fluid levels in your body could make the lenses in your eyes swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. Lybrate-userji, looking at the blood sugar report, it is clear that she has very high levels, (t2 diabetes). Needs to be treated with appropriate drugs, diet control and daily exercise. The problem must have been there for over a few months, that is why sugar levels are so high. Along with the treatment for diabetes, please get her eyes checked for ruling out any possibility of diabetic retinopathy. Go to any good eye specialist and get retinal examination done within next few days. If you want me advise on specific drug treatment and other details, then please come in a private conversation where I can guide specifically including giving prescriptions for the same. In this communication we are supposed to give only general advise. Also see that she avoids sweets completely, reduces intake of deep fried foods, avoids junk foods, pastries, white bread and other bakery items. She should consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits about 100 g a day. Should walk for 1 hour every day. Thanks for the question.

First of all, keep a regular check on his sugar by monitoring daily atleast 3 readings a day for the time being. Also maintain a food diary noting down his daily intake of all the foods he is consuming. Try to co relate if any foods causing high or low blood sugars. Also see if any medicines he is taking is causing these effects. Take the advice of your diabetologist to regulate his insulin dose & shift to a basal-bolus regimen if required.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. I have gone through the details given, however, the information provided is incomplete. Hence no suggestion can be made. I need to know following details: Fasting and PP blood glucose levels (current), HbA1c%, extent of daily exercise, present dietary pattern and medication being taken with dosage. Please comeback with specific details. Then only I will be able to give some answers. Usually in diabetes weight is lost when blood glucose is not well controlled. Loss of glucose in the usrine leads to weight loss and fatigue. Thanks.
