Quit habits strictly. Seems like you have oral submucous fibrosis (osmf). Kindly consult an oral & maxillo facial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need conservative or surgical management for mouth opening depending upon the stage of osmf. Advise full mouth opening, ballooning exercise & side to side movement of the jaw. Wrap 25 to 30 ice-cream sticks, make a bundle, put it between upper & lower front teeth for 15 minutes thrice a day increase 1 sticks each day.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. There are many diseases which spreads through saliva or mucous. But, our body in itself is capable to defend itself. Especially when it comes through your stomach. Therefore please panic. You should worry only if your physical immunity is too low. Don't panic for the time being and enjoy life. Take care.

Dear Doctor, It is 2 and half months now. Had a feeling of mouth, upper tongue and tongue drying. Met a doctor who administered some alopathic medicines. After taking medicines for about 3-4 days hives started coming out throughout body. Went on changing physician to dermatologist but no respite. Whatever medicine being prescribed hives with itching is persisting. Please advice some treatment which may not aggravate my problem rather give some soothing effect. Warm regards, SS Kaintura.

What happened I don't know, I am getting bad smell from my mouth after brushing. It is since five years, I am suffering with this and I am unable to speak others also due to this. Kindly suggest right solution to avoid this problem.

BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

I am 30 years old and I am suffering from tooth decay from last 35 days. What should I do?

Consult a dentist and get x ray done. If the problem is limited, your dentist will fill your tooth, if extensive he will do root canal treatment. If the problem is too severe, he will extract your teeth and place implant or bridge.

I have suffering from teeth pain from three months. Please give me solution to overcome this pain.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

I have suffering from teeth pain from three months. Please give me solution to overcome this pain.
The type of treatment you have for toothache will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. •If your toothache is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If your toothache is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. •If your toothache can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

You can remove it and it does not harm you. After you got the teeth removed follow the medications and do according to the instructions given. It may not cause pain initially but later it can create problem if it has no space for its eruption.

Chewing a sugarless gum after your meal for around 20 minutes freshens your breath and also make the leftover food particles cling to it.

I have some vocal problem. Actually when I speak saliva secretes in my mouth an it disturbs my pronunciation.
Please ...
Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation Injection Glycopyrrolate reduces secretions in the mouth, throat, airway, and stomach.

I have a pain in my teeth & sometimes blood is present in the peak. What should I do?
You have pain may be due to gum disease known as gingivitis and plaque deposition. Go to a dental clinic for scaling. This will help you. Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash three times a day after each meal. Use crest toothpaste. Keep your mouth clean. Brush properly. You can consult me also for further advice.

Hyperdontia - Too Many Teeth?

MDS - Periodontology and Oral Implantology, BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Hyperdontia - Too Many Teeth?

When asked about the number of teeth, the immediate response is 32. What most people don’t realize is that this includes that 4 wisdom teeth also, which don’t erupt in 50% of the adults. The revised number is therefore 28. Again, this is what is normal, and there could be variations among people. While some could have lost some tooth and have less than 28, another interesting bunch of people can have more than 28.

This condition of having extra teeth is known as hyperdontia that is hyper for more and dontia for teeth. Also called as supernumerary teeth, they erupt in the same line as other teeth or if there is lack of space, erupt either on the tongue side or on the cheek side of the jaw bone. In severe cases, it could sometimes even give the appearance of a mouthful of teeth.

These vary in shape and size and the following are the common forms of supernumerary teeth.

  1. Mesiodens: The most common form, they erupt between the incisors in the front of the mouth. The extra teeth are usually conical and much smaller than the regular incisors.

  2. Paramolars: These would look like smaller molars and can grow on the cheek or the palatal side.

  3. Distomolars: These are extra-small, additional wisdom teeth and grow beyond the third molars.

Reasons: Not clearly established, but genetics has a key role in their formation. Abnormalities like cleft lip and palate, Ehler-Danlos syndrome, and Gardner syndrome can also lead to supernumerary teeth. It is more common in men than women.

Fixing Hyperdontia: Even if they do not cause any immediate damage, they will be exerting extra pressure on other oral structures and should be removed. The gums and the jaw bones will be under a lot of pressure with the extra load.

Before going ahead with removal, the underlying cause needs to be identified. If there is any anomaly like cleft lip or palate, that needs to be corrected. If Gardner’s syndrome is suspected, then other symptoms also need to be checked for. Once the cause is identified, then removing hyperdontia is just one part of the whole treatment.

A radiograph will help determine,  if there are additional teeth present. A removal plan then needs to be drawn up. After removal, the orthodontist will need to be involved to correct any misalignment with braces. The exact duration and type of treatment will depend on the patient condition. If it was just a conical mesiodens that erupted between the two incisors, then it could just be removed and the space closed in a short period of time. However, if there are many of them, then a planned removal and correction is required. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.
