. Myopic power increases upto 21 yrs of age because body growth in male gets completed by 21 yrs. There is no direct medicine to improve vision but it you can take lots of green vegetables.--2.5D is considered very normal power, maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 yrs to 21yrs in male because maximum body growth takes place between these periods in male. You are 19 yrs old & you may take plenty of green vegetables &seasonal fruits so that minimum increase in myopic power occur. You may go for LASIK after 21 yrs if you are allergic to glass but you should go through in detail about LASIK or Smile LASIK on goggle.

Dear lybrate user, could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power.

Hello this number depends on the distance where you do your near tasks. You consult the doctor again but this time you. Keep the booklet (given by the doctor to check your near vision) at exactly the same distance where you keep your miniature sculptures. Then only doctor will be able to give you exact number. You might feel better with 2 number.

Eye Exams: Why Are They Important?

Glaucoma - What About It?

M.S. Ophthalmology
Ophthalmologist, Vadodara
Glaucoma - What About It?

Glaucoma is a blinding disease, estimated to be present in about 8% of population, in which the Optic Nerve is damaged, usually due to high pressure inside the eye( but can also happen with normal Eye Pressure). This damage can lead to loss of vision which cannot be reversed after it has occurred. However, early treatment can control this disease and prevent or delay blindness.

In most people it is without any symptoms, esp. in Chronic type. So most patients are not diagnosed before extensive damage is done. Hence regular eye examination are important.

Symptoms can be: (a) Frequent change in reading glasses (b) Difficulty in dark adaptation. (c) Bumping into things at unfamiliar places.(d) Blurred or foggy vision. (e) Coloured halos (rainbow coloured rings) around lights. (f) Acute type may present with severe eye pain, vomiting, & vision loss.

Hence, Early diagnosis, proper treatment & proper monitoring are very essential to preserve vision till life span. All people over 45 yrs age & all first relatives of known glaucoma patients must get themselves checked for Eye Pressure and Glaucoma periodically.

Early & appropriate diagnosis is done by judicious use of

  1. Applanation Tonometry: Gold standard to measure Eye Pressure
  2. Pachymetry: For corneal thickness influencing eye pressure check
  3. Early morning: Eye Pressure check to know pressure variations in a day
  4. Stereoscopic: Optic nerve examination & photography
  5. Automated Perimetry: To detect visual field defects
  6. Gonioscopy: To diagnose type of glaucoma- open angle or angle closure- which have different lines of treatment

In present days, OCT(Ocular Coherence Tomography) is used to image the optic nerve but its use is supportive and still not considered a standard of care.

Medical treatment with eye drops & regular follow-ups to ensure pressure control, compliance, address adverse effects , detect progression if any , can help to maintain the vision for a long time

Those patients who are not regular in using drops or who do not follow up as advised or are not controlled by maximum tolerated medical treatment or have narrow angle type of glaucoma may be treated by Surgical/ LASER treatment as under,

  1. Trabeculectomy: Fluid bypass for open angle type
  2. Laser Peripheral Iridotomy: Fluid bypass for narrow angle type
  3. Laser Trabeculoplasty: A stop gap treatment in place of medicines
  4. Laser Cyclophotocoagulation: For blinded painful glaucoma eyes
  5. Glaucoma Valve: In glaucoma not responding to usual surgical treatment. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ophthalmologist.

I have red eyes and feeling jealousy in my eyes because of this I can't sleep properly its very bad for my eyes.
: red eye has many causes. You have to see if it is associated with blurring of vision, pain, discharge and other complaints. But commonly its allergic or infective in origin ie allergic or infective conjunctivitis. Which has simple treatment protocol. But still its wise to see an ophthalmologist for a thorough slit lamp examination to rule out other differentials for red eye.

Hello. I think you have allergic conjunctivitis. 1. Eye allergies, called allergic conjunctivitis, are a common condition that occurs when the eyes react to something that irritates them (called an allergen). 2. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen. As a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva (the thin, filmy membrane that covers the inside of your eyelids) become red, swollen and itchy, with tearing and burning. The key to treating eye allergies is a. Avoid or limit contact with the substance causing the problem. B. Avoid rubbing eyes instead do cold compresses. Use antiallergic eyedrop along with lubricating eyedrop. This will help you I am very sorry dear to say that there is no medicine that can cure allergy. Only way is to stay away from all those things that you are allergic to.

Excessive sleepiness can have serious consequences. You could doze off while waiting at a red light, for example. And not getting good sleep has been associated with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and weight gain. Routinely taking more than 30 minutes to fall asleep Regularly waking up many times and having trouble falling asleep again Frequent sleepiness during the day, frequent naps, or falling asleep unintentionally or at inappropriate times during the day Loud snoring, gasping, snorting, choking sounds or stopping breathing for short periods during sleep--problems that are usually reported by your spouse or partner Creeping, tingling or crawling feelings in your legs or arms, especially as you're falling asleep Legs or arms jerk often during sleep, often reported by your spouse or partner Waking up with headaches

Do not stare at the screen for long periods of time. Every few minutes blink your eyes and look at a far off object by which you change your focus. Also gently massage your eyes with your hands (rub your hands together to make it warm and place it on your eyes.) after every 30 mins take a break for a minute or two to stretch your body so that you remain fit and alert.
