Pain is unusual in eyes. You need to make sure that vision is not affected. You need to visit eye surgeon to rule out any vision threatening problem.

Is Your Vision Blurry? What Should You Do?

Cornea Cataract & Lasik
Ophthalmologist, Delhi
Is Your Vision Blurry? What Should You Do?

Blurred vision is most often a sign that you need corrective spectacles for near sightedness, far sightedness or astigmatism but it could also be a sign of a bigger problem including eye diseases or neurological problems. Blurred vision involves the loss of sharpness of vision and objects appearing hazy and out of focus. It can affect one eye or both eyes simultaneously.

Whatever be your age, it is a good idea to consult a doctor as you begin to experience a blurred vision. To measure the extent of your vision problem, a doctor will do a comprehensive eye examination including spatial contrast sensitivity and a standard eye chart test.

Some of the factors that trigger blurred vision are:

  1. Myopia or nearsightedness
  2. Hypermetropia or farsightedness
  3. Astigmatism caused by an irregularly shaped cornea
  4. Presbyopia - the diminished ability to focus on objects due to the hardening of the lens in the eye
  5. Dry eyes or the lack of lubrication on the surface of the eyes
  6. Hormonal changes during pregnancy
  7. Migraine headaches
  8. Temporary floaters in the eye formed by the liquefying of the gel in the eyes
  9. After effects of Lasik surgery
  10. Eye drops or medication
  11. Overuse of contact lenses
  12. Diabetes

Blurred vision can also be a symptom of a serious condition such as cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and cardiovascular diseases.

Treatment for blurred vision depends on the factors triggering it. Wearing corrective glasses can cure blurred vision caused by myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism. These conditions can also be treated by Lasik surgery. For blurred vision related to diabetes, check your blood sugar and get it into its optimal range.

Exercises for the eye muscles can also help sharpen vision and lower the rate of eye muscle degeneration. Some of these exercises are:

  1. Alternately focus on an object close to you and another far from you for ten seconds each.
  2. Blink your eyes and hold for two seconds
  3. Roll your eyes clockwise and anticlockwise. Repeat 15-20 times.
  4. Rub your palms together to generate heat and place over your eyes to relax them.

A healthy diet with plenty of vitamin A can help keep your eyes healthy and prevent blurring of vision. Wearing sunglasses can also protect your eyes from harmful UV radiation and lower their rate of wear and tear. Lastly avoid reading in moving vehicles and holding a book too close to your face.

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

There is reddish ness In my both eyes from childhood. Spcly white portion of the eyes always look like Jandis patient...
Eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: • Eye dryness • Too much sun exposure • Dust or other particles in the eye • Allergies • Infection • Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. These may be due to: • Blepharitis: Swelling along the edge of the eyelid. • Conjunctivitis: Swelling or infection of the clear tissue that lines the eyelids and covers the surface of the eye (the conjunctiva). This is often referred to as "pink eye." • Corneal ulcers: Sores on the cornea most often caused by a serious bacterial or viral infection. • Uveitis: Inflammation of the uvea, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. The cause is most often not known. It may be related to an autoimmune disorder, infection, or exposure to toxins. The type of uveitis that causes the worst red eye is called iritis, in which only the iris is inflamed. Other potential causes of eye redness include: • Colds or allergies . • Acute glaucoma: A sudden increase in eye pressure that is extremely painful and causes serious visual problems. This is a medical emergency. The more common form of glaucoma is chronic and gradual. • Corneal scratches: Injuries caused by sand, dust, or overuse of contact lenses. Sometimes, a bright red spot, called a subconjunctival hemorrhage, will appear on the white of the eye. This often happens after straining or coughing, which causes a broken blood vessel on the surface of the eye. Most often, there is no pain and your vision is normal. It is almost never a serious problem. Because the blood leaks into the conjunctiva, which is clear, you cannot wipe or rinse the blood away. Like a bruise, the red spot will go away within a week or two. So,visit a local eyespecialist if your problem is in routine .The diagnosis of your problem in eyes can only be made by local examination of eyes

Treatment of viral infection is lot of rest and warm liquids. In severe cases as per protocol antiviral medicine is prescribed. The symptoms you are describing is of allergy and not of viral infection. Treatment of your allergy is to wear protective eyeglasses and facemask while going out in wind. Antihistamines will also help you.

Hello, you are suffering with Hay fever.Hay fever is an allergic disorder which is caused due to exaggerated response of the immune system to allergic substances or allergens. It is also known as “Allergic rhinitis” and has symptoms similar to the common cold, they often last for more than two weeks and do not include fever. Signs and symptoms of allergic rhinitis are running nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, stuffy nose, and eye irritation. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate a self-healing response from the person’s own immune system. The main goal of the treatment is to strengthen the weak immune system. The most common Homoeopathic remedy For HAY Fever is Allium cepa 30 ch, 3 drops thrice daily when hay fever starts with thin, watery and excoriating discharge and sneezing. Also take Alpha WD , 20 drops with warm water once daily for the weak defence system.

Sir whenever I went to dust, I got allergic. And my upper part of eyes get pain. Why sir?

MBBS, MS - Ophthalmology

Sir whenever I went to dust, I got allergic. And my upper part of eyes get pain. Why sir?
Eye allergies are bothered by the same irritants that cause sneezing and a runny nose among seasonal allergy sufferers and are very common among them. The most common airborne allergens that cause eye allergies are pollen, mold, dust and pet dander. They can also be caused by reactions to certain cosmetics or eye drops, including artificial tears used for treating dry eyes that contain preservatives. Take following precautions to get relief: 1) avoid allergens 2) remove the contact lens (if using any) 3) use specific prescribed medicines recommended by your doctor for your eye allergy.

I work for software company and sit minimum 8 hours in front of computer. Now I am feeling weakness in my eyes. What should I take in food for strong eye sight.

Hi, let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. I have a few suggestions for you regarding the usage of computers, mobile phones and books. Follow the rule of" 20" this means that every 20 minutes, take a gap of 20 seconds, blink your eyes actively 20 times and focus at an object which is minimum 20 feet away. This will help in relieving your eyes from the continuous strain that is caused due to staring. Staring at the computer continuously causes us to subconsciously blink less than normal. This causes the tear film on the surface of the eye to dry up. The result of this is pain, discomfort, etc. Another suggestions regarding the usage of computers is to maintain a proper posture. The computer must be positioned at the same height as your eye level. The neck should not be inadvertently flexed or extended. Roughly, an angle of 90 degrees should be maintained between your upper body and thighs. Likewise, a similar angle (90 degrees) should be maintained between your lower legs and thighs. Also the angle between your hands and arms should be roughly 90 degrees. This is the healthy ergonomic way of sitting while using a computer. Maintenance of proper posture would help in further relieving the symptoms of eye discomfort and pain. All these suggestions may take a while to sink in and imbibe in your routine. Once followed, they are sure to work wonders for you. Hope my suggestions help you. Take care. Cheers.
