Continue Urimax. Repeat P S A every 3-6 months if it increases consult urologist. You can ask directly at my mobile. You find any problem ask again. Thanks

In case of 4th stage Cancer (Carcinoma gallbladder) if we are going for Kemo therapy then will it increase the life expectations or only control this disease? Also is Kemo advisable for a weak person? Thank you.

Palliative chemotherapy is the most suitable option, provided, patient should be able to tolerate it. The expected goals are prolongation of life and some control over the rate of growth of cancer. The treating medical oncologist will be in the best position to judge, what chemotherapy will be suitable for the patient.

Needs to do PSA, Uroflow, Creatinine to find whether the surgery is needed or not. Usually after surgery urine flow is good and it is under control. Usually it does not affect the sexual activity.

Enlarged Prostate - Warning Signs You Must Watch Out!

Enlarged Prostate - Warning Signs You Must Watch Out!

The prostate gland in males surrounds the urethra, through which urine and sperm are passed out of the body. Its function is to secrete a fluid, which provides nourishment to the sperm. It is about the shape of a walnut and is present between the pubic bone and the rectum.

As a man crosses 40, the prostate gland begins to increase in size due to an increase in the number of cells. This is known as hyperplasia.  The condition is usually benign and therefore the name benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). As it continues to grow, there is an increased pressure on the urethra. Therefore, there can be problems with urination. The bladder, being a muscular organ, compensates to some extent and so the problems with urination are mostly managed. If left untreated, this can continue to be a major problem and the bladder may not be able to compensate. In men who are 60-plus, BPH is very common.

Signs and symptoms

  1. One of the initial symptoms of BPH is when the urine stream begins to grow weak.
  2. There could also be a reduced speed of passing urine.
  3. Men with BPH never have a feeling of complete emptying of the bladder.
  4. On the other hand, there is also a constant difficulty in initiating a urine stream. There could be intermittent breaks in the urine stream.
  5. The person may feel the need to strain to initiate the stream and to ensure complete emptying.
  6. There could be dribbling of urine after passing urine.
  7. The duration between two bathroom visits can constantly reduce, with the constant urge to urinate.
  8. There is a constant urge to visit the bathroom, which is more common in the night. One of the most annoying features of BPH is the walking up at night to urinate, but with an inability to initiate a stream and an inability to completely empty the bladder, it leaves the person very irritated and frustrated.
  9. There could be blood in the urine. In fact, blood in the urine accompanied by fever, chills, nausea and vomiting are indications of an emergency.
  10. There could be blockage of urine completely, if the enlargement is quite severe.

Diagnosis
If you are having any of these symptoms, then the doctor will first test for an enlarged prostate through a digital rectal exam. Then a test is done to check a chemical called prostate specific antigen.  Increased levels of this chemical is almost always indicative of BPH. In addition, X-rays and scanning may be used to confirm diagnosis.

Treatment
Though medications are available, confirmatory treatment is through surgical removal. The procedure needs a inimum of 2 to 3 days. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Hi, my mother is 56 year old, has breast cancer metasted to bone. She has undergone chemotherapy. Now she is suffering with severe pain in legs and backpain. We consulted neurologist, orthopedic and and oncologist who gives her chemo. oncologist says its disc problem, not related to cancer, but she is not getting relief from medication given by neurologist or orthopedic doctor.

Dear, if oncologist has told you that it is not related to cancer, he may be right because bone metastasis makes the disease as stage iv which is very advanced. I hope you have got pet scan done which will confirm if she has bone metastasis. I will recommend bone calcifying treatment for her which should give her relief.

What is a cancer and HIV how it will come to human life how we control any precautions is there.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology, Fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (FRSTM & H)
Oncologist, Delhi
Hiv is contagious infection caused through sexual contact, unhygienic conditions or by getting transferred by using of infected syringes and needles or any time through infected blood transfusion. Many a times there is severe immune deficiency in the body and such infection is caught easily. Cancer is not contagious but immune deficiency is the cause in addition to other causes. It can happen due to chromosomal changes in the body or by things which constantly irritate the body such as mouth cancers caused by chewing paan masala, it is a long subject.

Foods Most Likely to Cause Cancer!

MD - Medicine , MBBS
General Physician, Vadodara
Foods Most Likely to Cause Cancer!

The food you eat is critical for your overall wellbeing as a number of cancers that affect the human body are of gastrointestinal origin. Stick to organic and chemical free foods to live a healthier life since they reduce the risk of cancer substantially. Regular consumption of the food items mentioned below increase your risk of developing cancer, as well as many other conditions and should be avoided at all costs.

  1. Microwave Popcorn- Most microwave-popcorn bags are lined with c8, also known as perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) which increases the risk of certain cancers such as kidney, testicular, bladder, pancreas and liver cancer notably. Microwave popcorn also contains an artificial or synthetic butter flavoring called diacetyl which is extremely toxic and obstructs breathing.
  2. Canned Tomatoes- While tomatoes are considered to be cancer fighting foods, their canned counterparts are extremely unhealthy and may cause cancer. This is mainly due to the lining of the cans they are put in which contains a chemical known as bisphenol-A or BPA that has been proven to elevate the risk of infertility as well as prostate and breast cancer. Due to their (tomatoes) high acidity, BPA leaks from the lining of the cans and penetrates into the fruit. Tomatoes should be cooked fresh or stored in glass jars.
  3. Processed/Grilled Red Meat- Processed meats such as sausages, prosciutto, bacon, pimento loaf, bologna, hot dogs etc., contain various chemicals and preservatives such as sodium nitrate. This is added to make the meat look fresh and appealing but are, in fact, carcinogenic in nature. Moreover, you should also avoid grilling meat since it releases a carcinogen known as heterocyclic aromatic amines. Another dangerous food item includes smoked meat since it picks up tar from the smoking process.
  4. Farmed Salmon- It is imperative to avoid farmed salmon because they are fed unnatural diets that are contaminated with carcinogens, antibiotics, chemicals, pesticides and so on. They also harbor sea lice, 30 times greater in amount than wild salmon. High levels of PCBs, cancer causing dioxins, and mercury have been found in them. It is advisable to opt for wild sockeye salmon instead of farmed salmon. Consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

lybrate-user, Thanks for the query If the diagnosis is fibroadenoma, then there is nothing to worry. Because - "A fibroadenoma is a non-cancerous tumor in the breast that is commonly found in women under the age of 30. According to Mammotome, fibroadenomas are diagnosed in approximately 10 percent of women in the United States (Mammotome). African-American women are more likely to develop these tumors" Certain investigations like Mammogram and if needed Fine needle aspiration may be done to rule out any other problem. Thanks.

My teenage girls want to use nailpolish, but I have heard thataby nailpolishes contain formaldehyde and can cause cancer. Is it safe for my daughter to use it?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, it is still controversial as there is no standardisation of chemicals used in nail polish. Though the quantity is very minimal and most of companies have been asked to remove harmful substances like formaldehyde. So once in a while it's okay to use it as we hardly see any related cancers in our opd, but not as a routine on weekly basis. More risk is for workers working in nail paint factories who are exposed multifolds than the user. Please use good standard brands.
