Stroke is very uncommon in young. You need to undergo detailed assessment to find the cause of stroke and then treatment can be given. Consult a neurologist in person.

Parkinson's disease is a disease of brain which occurs due to deficiency of chemical called dopamine in a region of brain called basal ganglia. It can present as shaking of hands and feet, difficulty or slowness in walking and stiffness/tightness of limbs. There is no obvious cause found for this disease. It can sometimes occur due to drugs taken for psychiatric illness but mostly there will be no cause found. Identify warning signs of brain stroke

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad

Brain stroke (scientifically known as Ischemic stroke) which occurs due to interuption of blood supply to brain can be catastrophic and may cause significant morbidity. In a significant percentage of stroke patients, there may be warning signs before a stroke occurs. If these warning signs, known as transient ischemic attacks, are identifed and treated, we can prevent a mjor brain stroke, hence avoiding significant morbidity.

These warning signs maybe in form of transient weakness of one side of body, transient numbness of one half of body or transient difficulty in speaking or swaying while walking which may last few minutes to hours and resolve completely. People experiencing these warning symptoms should immediately consult a neurologist as timely investigation and treatment can prevent a major stroke.

If you don't have any facial weakness/ drooping of difficulty in closing eyes then there is no need to suspect facial palsy and there is no need to do mri brain.

Sir or mam I want to ask one question. I am already suffering from migraine. please tell me what is symptoms and causes and solutions.

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Migraine can be tackled by a combination of medical and lifestyle measures. Lifestyle measures: 1) regular intake of meals. Avoid fasting, eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at fixed timings. 2) good 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep daily 3) avoiding foods that precipitate migraine like cheese, chocolate, excess coffee/tea and sour foods medical measures: if you have frequent episodes, you will need 2 types of medicines- one to be taken daily as prophylaxis and 2nd to be taken during attacks of headache for quick relief of pain. These medication should be started only after consultation with a neurologist and ruling out other rare but serious causes of headache.

Sir Neurologist have Diagnosed my Brother-In-Law as MND recently! He is in initial stage His Age is 42 Can you suggest Best Probable Treatment for him in any Therapy Please Reply.

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Hi first we have to confirm beyond doubt the diagnosis of motor neuron disease by doing enmg test. If diagnosis is confirmed and there was no other cause found, then there is no definitive treatment which can improve or treat mnd. As he is already on riluzole, he needs to continue taking riluzole which may slow the disease progression marginally. Ivig is not found to be beneficial and at the moment there is no disease modifying treatment available for mnd,

How to tackle Migraine

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Migraine can be tackled by a combination of medical and lifestyle measures.
Medical measures: if you have frequent episodes, you will need 2 types of medicines- one to be taken daily for a period of at least 6 months as prophylaxis and 2nd to be taken during attacks of headache for quick relief of pain. These medication should be started only after consultation with a neurologist and ruling out other rare but serious causes of headache.

Lifestyle measures:
Lifestyle measures play an equal, if not greater role in management of migraine. They include:
1) regular intake of meals. Avoid fasting, eat breakfast, lumnch and dinner at fixed timings.
2) good 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep daily
3) avoiding foods that precipitate migraine like cheese, chocolate, excess coffee/tea and sour foods

In addition, you may have to temporarily avoid excessive travel and exposure to sunlight which can precipitate headache. Yoga/ meditation and relaxation techniques will help immensely.

My dad is parkinson patient and recently was in tube feeding and yesterday the tube was removed and he can eat from mouth while eating from mouth he should not cough else the food will go to his lungs to avoid this neurologist suggested us for a speech therapist is there any medicine or execersise to swallow his food without coughing please suggest.

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad
There are no medication which can improve swallowing. Swallowing excercises can help in improving swallow to some extent. If improvement is inadequate, its better to got for peg insertion, in which a minor surgery will be done and feeds can be given directly into stomach.

My brother aged 63 year old felt CVA haemorrage at basal ganglia size about 4.2 * 2.3 two month back on 9th august 2015. Now he is conscious/alert but left side paralysis is same. What is the prognosis what is the best treatment now.

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Your brother's hemorrhagic cva most likely resulted from uncontrolled bp. Most important treatment is to control bp strictly now and in future. Regarding his left side weakness, improvement can be only achieved by aggressive physiotherapy.

I am consuming everyday medicines for BP, Blood Sugar, cholesterol, blood thinner. All my parameters are normal with these tablets. 4 Years back I had Epilepsy and Hyper tension. And my heart beats were also irregular. In the year 2011 due to these problems I was inserted a Pacemaker, MRI friendly. Also I am taking (in addition to the BP Sugar, cholesterol tablets) tablets for controlling my Epilepsy. My heart beat is normal after the fixing of the Pace maker and I am also free from Epilepsy for the last 4 years. I am leading a normal health, of course with these tablets. With this conditions being Normal, Can I stop the Epilepsy Tablets. For epilepsy I am consuming 3 tablets/ day of Epiliv 500mg and Eptoin 100mg. My health conditions, being normal Can I discontinue the epilepsy tablets? Of course I will continue the other tablets for BP, Blood sugar, cholesterol. What is your opinion and Suggestion?

DM - Neurology, MD - General Medicine, MBBS
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Epilepsy medication should never be discontinued suddenly. In your case, we should first determine why you had epilepsy in 1st place. If its due to a brain stroke which would have occured due to irregular heart rhythm, then you may need medicine for epilepsy. If seizures are well controlled and there is no persistent cause, we can consider tapering and stopping phenyotin gradually and continue on leviteracetam. Consult a neurologist before changing or stopping medicines.
