There are different types of blood cancer. Treatment is different for different cancers. As you have mentioned he was started on imatinib tablets he might be having CML (chronic myeloid leukemia). It may take a month or two to become blood counts normal. He needs to repeat bone marrow examination after 3 Months of starting tables to assess response.

Even in last stage chemotherapy can be helpful. If already lot of chemotherapy has been given, then the prognosis is poor, but you can still show it to a pain and palliative care specialist who can prescribe medicines to reduce her symptoms.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Have you consulted any medical oncologist, and tried chemotherapy yet? sorafenib, as I know, is one of the best targeted therapies available for advanced renal cancer. Surgery, if attempted, may at best help de-bulk the tumor load. Advise consult oncologist, on the above-mentioned, for further traction. Its difficult to say exactly how long he can survive in the current context, with treatment. However, we can still attempt improving his health related quality of life and overall survival through appropriate alternative medicines that can be given as an adjunct or complementary to the conventional medical treatment. Hope this clarifies. Take care and all the very best.

Hi Doctor, I had total thyroidectomy due to Thyroid cancer Parathyroids were preserved, I am taking calcium supplement of 2000 mg, calcium was 8.6 post surgery, after 50 days now calcium reduced to 7.But I am "ASYMPTOMATIC" My albumin is normal. What could be the reason for low calcium and I am ASYMPTOMATIC not understanding this?.

Dear Ravi, The transplanted parathyroids take time to start functioning normally again.During surgery their blood supply can get compromised and they may not function well again. Meanwhile you can consult your doctor and increase the dose of calcium. Get the serum calcium repeated after 1 month and then we can reassess what to do. Regards.

My wife aged 68yrs fears about breast lump. Feeling for any hard lumps does not give any clue. Is a consultation with doctor needed?

Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS), MS - General Surgery, MBBS

Sir, she needs a clinical examination by a surgeon, a bilateral mammogram and fine needle aspiration cytology-fnac. Breast lumps especially in this age group should not be taken lightly.

What is the reason of auxiliary tail of breast? And what is the treatment of it. My Gf is having this. I want to know the reason of auxiliary tail of breast.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Breast is comprises of glands or lobules and milk duct which are supported by fat and connective tissue glandular tissue extends from nipple and move upwards up to collar bone and laterally towards the axilla where it ends in axillary tail, the lymph glands that drain from breast are mostly situated in this area, if swelling of lymph node are there then there must be infection, cat scratch, fever, infection to breast tissue, tumor in breast also causes swelling in most of the cases and it is very much diagnostic of breast cancer, so I think I should have a check up with your gynaecologist for this purpose, diagnosis of the case is most important.

If mammogram isn't possible, it the Prolactin Serum body test good enough to detect any breast cancer? Also, pls tell me that if someone is having only milkish-waterish nipple stimulation, how much chances are of it being a breast cancer. N what stage it can be?

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FBD (Fellowship in Breast Diseases), UICC Fellowship
Oncologist, Pune
Milky discharge is not related to cancer. All pathologies in breast are not cancerous. Milky discharge can be related to high prolactin level in the body. That's why doctors will check it. It can be reverted with medicine s. But better to get checked by Breast Surgeon once.

Dear, most of the prostate enlarged turn to malignancy. First check your psa. To rule out malignancy. Many ayurvedic drugs as well as allopathic drugs claim to reduce the enlargement but which one actually helps is a matter of chance. Surgery is indicated if the uncontrolled symptoms are there.
