Dear Lybrate User, I should appreciate you for the fact you believe that diabetes can be controlled by lifestyle modifications. Yes that's true, though it's not irreversible. Good that you have concentrated on physical activity , do concentrate on your diet as well. Make flaxseed, drumstick leaves, curry leaves powder and sprinkle 30 gm daily on all the foods you consume throughout the day. Also sprinkle wheat bran and germ daily 30gm throughout on all foods you consume. Consume lot of leeks and lettuce smoothie which is high in fibre content. Also you can consume raw lady's finger water soaked overnight for your diabetes condition.

If a person suffering from heart attack suddenly then what should we have to do at that instant that it would easily taken to hospital and what are the precautions at that time ?

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

If you think someone is having a heart attack: have the person sit down, rest, and try to keep calm. Loosen any tight clothing. Ask if the person takes any chest pain medication for a known heart condition, such as nitroglycerin, and help them take it. If the pain does not go away promptly with rest or within 3 minutes of taking nitroglycerin, call for emergency medical help. If the person is unconscious and unresponsive, call 911 (or your local emergency number), then begin cpr. If an infant or child is unconscious and unresponsive, perform 1 minute of cpr, then call 911. Do not do not leave the person alone except to call for help, if necessary. Do not allow the person to deny the symptoms and convince you not to call for emergency help. Do not wait to see if the symptoms go away. Do not give the person anything by mouth unless a heart medication (such as nitroglycerin) has been prescribed.

Dear lybrateuser, -your tiredness & breathlessness are due to your weight & sedentary life if you are not exercising regularly -to reduce weight eat more of fibrous foods like fruits, vegetables, beans, wholegrains, sprouts, legumes, pulses, restrict dairy products, non-veg, fried, processed & junk food -do regular exercise like brisk walking, jogging, start slowly & increase time by 10-15 min every week along with the pace, if you feel tired then take a break & again start, do mild weight lifting as it provides exercise to the heart & helps it to pump blood more efficiently into the body, do it in a gym under a trainers guidance -do deep breathing exercise & yoga 10-15 min daily in the morning -get investigations, blood cbc, for sugar, cholesterol, ecg, & consult a doctor with results. -

There are 4 types of intracranial hemorrhage, epidural hematoma, subdural hematoma, subarachnoid hemorrhage, intracerebral hemorrhage, any type of hemorrhage is harmful specially in this age. Your grand father age is 85 years. According to human life cycle blood vessel would be fragile & weak in this age. High blood pressure one of the cause of brain hemorrhage but brain hemorrhage also seen in normal bp in geriatric patient. However survival rates are decreased when the bleeding occurs in certain areas of the brain or if the initial bleed was very large, So consult with a neuro doctor for his present condition.

All this happened in the last three months. But the most I am worried about is acidity and Gas. Because I took three Ecgs as my chest was in pain. But doctors ruled out any heart issues. Now again I am in trouble with the chest burn and that radiation goes to my left shoulder to my left wrist sometimes. But when I have a deep burp it kind of relaxes. Is it all related or I should be worried about any heart issues. How should I get treated ?

Anand, Anxiety is defined as chronic worry about something which may or may not happen in future. Anxiety and acidity are relatives and they usually stay together. Three ECGs were taken and you are cleared of any heart related problems. Then you should stop worrying about your heart. I advise you to take garlic pearls one pill morning and night after meals. I also request you to post a private question to me with as many details and symptoms as possible. I am happy to help. Take care.

1) A person who can do as much physical activity as you do with no problems can only do so because the heart is healthy. 2) since all your tests are fine you can further be reassured. 3) Get a TMT if you are over-concerned, if that is normal your heart is fine. 4) Also please consult a psychiatrist for some psychotherapy to help you get over your anxiety. This unnecessary stress is not going to keep you heart attack free, all you can do is maintain a healthy lifestyle, eat healthy and exercise daily and get annual medical evaluation.

High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. Chest Pain - Reasons and Treatment

MBBS
General Physician, Ahmedabad
Chest Pain - Reasons and Treatment

If you thought that chest pain occurred only due to a heart-related issue like a heart attack, you are wrong. Chest pain is one of the most common reasons that people visit the emergency services and it can be caused due to problems with your heart, lungs and digestive system.

Chest pain can be due to either of these two main reasons:

Heart- related Issues

1. Heart attacks called myocardial infarctions are very common reasons for chest pains. During a heart attack, the blood supply that serves the heart with oxygen is cut off due to plaque build-up in heart arteries causing the death of heart muscles.

  • Other reasons for heart attacks are blood clots or torn blood vessels.
  • Not all people having a heart attack have symptoms. Usually, people report symptoms like chest pain, upper body pain, nausea, sweating, fatigue, and trouble breathing.
  • A heart attack is a serious medical emergency for which immediate care is needed.

2. Angina pectoris is a type of chest pain that results from reduced blood flow to the heart. Low blood flow means your heart doesn’t get enough oxygen. The angina pain is often triggered by physical activity or emotional stress and feels like a vice squeezing your chest or a heavy weight on your chest. It can also spread from your chest to your neck, arms, and shoulders. Other symptoms are fatigue, dizziness and nausea and these normally last up to 15 minutes only.

3. Unstable angina which causes crushing chest pains suddenly and even when you are not doing anything strenuous is a medical emergency as it can lead to a heart attack. This usually shows that your heart, arteries are narrowing alarmingly.

4. Other heat-related reasons for chest pains are-

  • Mitral valve narrowing or stenosis
  • Heart arrhythmias
  • Coronary Artery disease
  • Inflammation of heart muscles or pericardium and weakening of the heart muscles.

All of these are emergencies and need immediate medical attention to prevent a fatality.

Not Heart- related:

1. Lung conditions like Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Pulmonary embolism

  • Pneumonia is an infection in one or both lungs caused by fungi, bacteria, or viruses. It causes inflammation in your lung’s air sacs and makes them full of pus which makes it difficult to breathe and causes chest pains, amongst other debilitating symptoms.
  • Bronchitis is an inflammation of your bronchial tubes. It can be chronic or acute and it can cause a cough with mucus and chest pains.
  • Pulmonary embolism is a blood clot that occurs in the lungs. It can go on to damage parts of your lung due to limited blood flow. Apart from this, it can also decrease oxygen levels in the blood and affect other organs.

It can be life-threatening due to permanent lung damage. The most common symptom of a pulmonary embolism is gradual or sudden shortness of breath

There is also-

  • bluish skin tone
  • anxiety
  • fainting
  • hest pain that extends into your arm, jaw, neck, and shoulder
  • lightheadedness

2. Rib cage inflammation or Costochondritis is also known as Tietze’s syndrome. It is an inflammation of the cartilage in the rib cage. Patients experience chest pain in the upper and middle rib area on either side of the body due to this. The pain can also radiate to the back or the abdomen, getting worse if you move, stretch, or breathe deeply.

3. Food pipe disease or Esophagitis is any inflammation or irritation of the oesophagus, a tube that sends food from your throat down to your stomach.

Common causes of food pipe disease are acid reflux or GERD and bacterial or viral infections.

GERD- This condition occurs when the stomach contents and acids back up into the oesophagus. This causes chest pain that can mimic a heart disease. There may also be oesophagal spasms due to GERD. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.
