My son 4 year 5 months, he has tooth pain. Consulted a dentist he found cavity and prescribed an antibiotic and pain killer. My doubt is this cavity can be filled or we need to do a root canal? Now only cavity one teeth small cavity can without root canal treatment ?

BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
If the cavity is small i mean when the cavity is within the enamel and dentin thn the teeth can be filled a cement if it is bit deep thn we can do pulp capping bt if it is already in pulp it needs to get treated with pulp therapy.

I have three fully impacted wisdom teeth. But they are not infected. From last 6 months I have jaw, throat, ear, tongue & tooth pains. Meanwhile I suffered from throat infection which was due to Enterobacter clocae. I have also reactive lymphnodes in neck. Can impacted wisdom teeth cause all such symptoms?

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Hello lybrate-user, wisdom teeth do cause pain in and around teeth and this pain is often referred to jaw, throat and ear. If these wisdom teeth are always causing discomfort and aren't helpfull in biting or chewing food then I would suggest you to go for an intentional extraction of these teeth. I am sure you'll be much more comfortable after it.

My teeth (upper and lower incisors and molars) are getting blackened. Actually black! Which does not come off even after brushing. No history of tobacco consumption, smoking, tea or coffee. I've got scaling about 5 times. After each scaling it gets cleared only to recurrently come back. The last session was about 4 years ago. The toothpaste I use is either Colgate or pepsodent. I brush twice a day. Other than the above mentioned teeth, rest all are so amazingly white!

You may be suffering from Turner's tooth. Which occurs due to trauma of deciduous tooth which in turn effects the mineralisation permanent tooth lying below or it may be tetracycline staining. Treatment will be either veneers or crown in front tooth preferably Emax for esthetic and posterior tooth u can go for pfm or zirconia crown.

Cavities - All You Need To Know!

Cavities, or tooth decay, is the destruction of your tooth enamel, the hard, outer layer of your teeth. It can be a problem for children, teens and adults. Plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, constantly forms on your teeth. When you eat or drink foods containing sugars, the bacteria in plaque produce acids that attack tooth enamel. The stickiness of the plaque keeps these acids in contact with your teeth and over time the enamel can break down. This is when cavities can form.

A cavity is a little hole in your tooth. Cavities are more common among children, but changes that occur with ageing make cavities an adult problem, too. Recession of the gums away from the teeth, combined with an increased incidence of gum disease, can expose tooth roots to plaque. Tooth roots are covered with cementum, a softer tissue than enamel. They are susceptible to decay and are more sensitive to touch and to hot and cold.

It’s common for people over age 50 to have tooth-root decay. Decay around the edges, or a margin, of fillings is also common for older adults. Because many older adults lacked benefits of fluoride and modern preventive dental care when they were growing up, they often have a number of dental fillings. Over the years, these fillings may weaken and tend to fracture and leak around the edges. Bacteria accumulate in these tiny crevices causing acid to build up which leads to decay.

You can help prevent tooth decay by following these tips:

  1. Brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.
  2. Clean between your teeth daily with floss or inter dental cleaner.
  3. Eat nutritious and balanced meals and limit snacking.
  4. Check with your dentist about the use of supplemental fluoride, which strengthens your teeth, and about use of dental sealants (a plastic protective coating) applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (where decay often starts) to protect them from decay.

Consult a dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral examination.

There is a myth among many people that removal of the upper teeth affects vision. This is a total misconception.Vision is not affected in any way by undertaking treatment of the upper teeth including its extraction.

Whenever I brush my teeth, blood comes. What can be the reason? and what should I do?

You may need deep cleaning along with surgical, gum strengthening procedure. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash after every meals. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser.

I have been suffering with teeth infection for a month but could not get any remedy I had cement before a week but it was paining so I want suggestions.

BDS
Dentist, Lucknow
While cementing your tooth got traumatized. So teeth pain may be due to various reasons like infection, sensitivity or trauma. If your teeth is decayed it is better to get it filled or treated by a dentist. If you are opting for root canal treatment do not forget to get a crown on the effected tooth. If you want to go for only medicinal treatment so let me tell you only medicine are not going to be very effective untill you get this treated by a dentist.

Do whitening toothpastes whiten teeth more than regular toothpastes, and how we whiten are teeth regularly?

BDS
Dentist, Kolar
Regular toothpastes remove plaque n makes your teeth clean whereas whitening toothpastes contain certain tooth whitening agents which whiten your teeth slowly over a period of 2 wks to 2 months. These whitening agents may cause sensitivity in few individuals n wen unbearable it is advised to discontinue. Whitening toothpastes donot give pearly white teeth for everybody but only lightens one's teeth by 1-2 shade only.
