Tooth Sensitivity - Facts You Should Know About It

Tooth Sensitivity - Facts You Should Know About It

Often we are caught by a piercing pain that shoots through the roots of our teeth right up to our cranial region, at fairly unsuspecting moments. The pain can either cause momentary discomfort or end up being excruciating and difficult to bear. Rushing to the dentist is usually the only recourse left for us to take at such times. Most of such complaints meet the same verdict, that of, ‘sensitive tooth’. The problem of sensitive tooth has emerged as one of the most recurring and prevailing dental ailments.

Usually exposing the affected tooth to extreme tastes like sweet and sour or hot and cold food items can trigger off sensitivity in your teeth. Tooth sensitivity usually occurs when the nerve endings are exposed to food and other foreign particles due to a condition of gum pull back. This primarily takes place due to insufficient oral care which results in the decomposition of tooth enamel. This also makes one vulnerable to tooth decay and cavity formation. Inflammation of gums and persistent intake of acid inducing food products are among the other prominent factors leading to tooth sensitivity. The incidence of tooth sensitivity also increases with age. However, it is a fairly defeasible disease and one of the foremost steps to rectify the condition is meticulous and regular dental care.

Some of the steps to follow while dealing with sensitive tooth can be as follows.

1. Regular oral care: Maintaining the oral hygiene is paramount to avoid the recurrence of tooth sensitivity. Use of a proper brush in the right technique at least twice a day is mandatory. For the best results and to avoid gum bleeding, dentists recommend the use of a soft bristled toothbrush. Over and above brushing, one must use fluoride and antiseptic mouthwash for rinsing purposes. Use of floss is also a good practice.
2. Using a proper toothpaste: The choice of toothpaste needs to be judicious. The best kind is a fluoridated toothpaste with a lesser proportion of tartar present in it. Regular use may substantially reduce the harm caused by tooth decay and work as a viable solution to sensitive tooth.
3. Regular visits to the dentist: Prevention is better than cure. As such, it helps to make periodic visits to the dentist to check the condition of your teeth rather than making an SOS rush to her or his clinic when disaster strikes. Oral hygiene can be best maintained when abiding by the instructions given by the dentists.

Human body needs sleep of 7-8 hrs. For physiological effect of body repair and rest, sleep timing is 10 pm onwards. Afternoon nap is beneficial. Simple ways for a restful sleep 1.Cut down on caffeine: Caffeine drinkers may find it harder to fall asleep. Even a single cup of coffee in the morning may lead to a sleepless night. Caffeine blocks the effects of adenosine, a neurotransmitter thought to promote sleep. Caffeine can also interrupt sleep by increasing the need to urinate during the night. Because caffeine withdrawal can cause headaches, irritability, and extreme fatigue, it may be easier to cut back gradually rather than to go cold turkey. Those who can’t or don’t want to give up caffeine should avoid it after 2 p.m. Or noon if they are especially caffeine–sensitive. 2.Stop smoking or chewing tobacco: Nicotine is a central nervous system stimulant that can cause insomnia. If you continue to use tobacco, avoid smoking or chewing it for at least one to two hours before bedtime. 3.Limit alcohol intake: Alcohol depresses the nervous system, so a nightcap may seem to help some people fall asleep. Alcohol suppresses REM sleep, and the soporific effects disappear after a few hours. Alcohol also worsens snoring and other sleep breathing problems. 4. Worry and stress causes sleeplessness. Find out what hurts you and resolve the issue.

6 Ayurvedic Remedies That Can Help You Lower High Cholesterol!

Cholesterol is a type of fatty acid that is produced by the liver. The body uses cholesterol to perform various activities such as synthesizing of hormones, bile acid and vitamin D. Ayurveda views it as an important component of the body in terms of lubrication. The Ayurvedic approach of balancing cholesterol is not only to curb the cholesterol amount, but also to strictly control diet so that the secretion of cholesterol can be curtailed. Here are a few Ayurvedic hat-tips that can help to lower cholesterol and restore normal body function of the body:

  1. Medicago satina: They are better known as Alfalfa and is famous for their ability to deal with artery-related diseases. They are capable of clearing arteries that are congested with cholesterol. They can be consumed daily as a whole or by mixing them in juice.
  2. Arjuna: Arjuna is yet another powerful Ayurvedic herb that is mighty powerful in dealing with cardiac conditions such as heart blockages, heart attacks etc. The bark of the Arjuna tree can be taken and consumed in the form of powder. They have the capability to dissolve cholesterol and prevent heart blockages. This should be consumed earlier in the morning, before breakfast with lukewarm water.
  3. Coriander: Coriander is considered to be one of the best herbal diuretic agents. It can revitalize the kidneys and help them perform better in terms of excretion of waste. The kidney, therefore, can flush the excess cholesterol from the body. Coriander can be consumed along with food on a daily basis.
  4. Garlic: Garlic again has been known to mankind for centuries and is extremely beneficial for people suffering from high cholesterol. Two cloves of garlic on a daily basis can completely neutralize the effect of high cholesterol in the blood. Apart from freeing up arteries, garlic has multiple other health benefits.
  5. Guggulu: This herb is one of the popular herbs among ayurvedic practitioners for treating high blood pressure and high cholesterol in the blood. They contain guggulsterones, which is known to be an active blocker of bad cholesterol in the blood. Consumption of 25 mg of this substance can make a person totally free from high cholesterol. They can be taken after any meals.
  6. Holy basil or tulsi: Holy basil is another popular and traditional Indian hub that is extensively used by ayurvedic practitioners to treat high cholesterol in the bloodstream. They can eliminate excess cholesterol through the kidneys. It is used for preparing multiple medicines. It is a proven medicinal herb that is very efficient in dealing with excess cholesterol in the blood. They have the ability to disintegrate cholesterol from the body. 2-3 leaves of tulsi can be consumed on a daily basis. Consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Hye, Thanks for the query. Firstly it is important to understand that weight /fat loss involves sensible eating. You have to eat the right foods at the right time. Eat small but frequent meals.     Reduce your main meals by 1/4th  the amount. Take a glass of lime water 10minutes before meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed.                        Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing.     It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips.

etting rid of stubborn pimples, blackheads and whiteheads starts with thorough but gentle cleansing. Try my recipe for Homemade Honey Face Wash. Dampen skin with warm water, and massage into face and neck. Rinse well and pat dry. Do this each morning and evening and, if needed, after workouts. Refrain from cleansing more often, as this can irritate the skin and cause an overproduction of oil. It features apple cider vinegar, honey, coconut oil, probiotics and essential oils (like tea tree oil). The honey soothes the skin, the coconut oil helps to fight bacteria and fungus, and the tea tree oil helps to invigorate the skin.

She is 4 month baby. Having capillary hemangioma in right eye. It can be treated by medicines or a lasik is required ...
Hello lybrate-user. Capillary hemangiomas may resolve with time. Lasik is not the solution for it. In fact lasik is for rectifying the refractive error (getting rid of the glasses) of the eye. Regarding the capillary hemangioma, it may be necessary to get it surgically removed if it persists and shows no signs of spontaneous resolution. For the time being, do not worry. Give it time. Regards.

Sildenafil and Melanoma Risk
Sildenafil may be associated with increased melanoma risk, according a recent study published in JAMA Internal Medicine.
However, a cause and effect relationship has not been found and there is not enough evidence to warrant treatment changes.
Sildenafil is a phosphodiesterase (PDE) 5A inhibitor that is frequently prescribed to men with erectile dysfunction. It is the active ingredient in Viagra.
Previous lab research conducted in vitro has shown that PDE5A inhibition could spur the development of melanoma cells and melanoma cell invasion.
For this study, the research team, led by Dr. Wen-Qing Li of Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, USA) and Harvard Medical School, looked at data from the Health Professionals’ Follow-Up study, which started in 1986. This biennial health survey included men between the ages of 40 and 75.
Specifically, the researchers analyzed data from 25,848 men recorded between 2000 and 2010. The men’s mean age was 64.8 years. Recent sildenafil use (during the previous three months) was reported by 5.3% of the men; 6.3% had used it at some point in the past.
Over this period, 142 cases of melanoma, 580 cases of squamous cell carcinoma, and 3,030 cases of basal cell carcinoma (all types of skin cancer) were reported.
The researchers found that men who took sildenafil – either recently or ever – were at higher risk of developing invasive melanoma. They were not at higher risk of developing the other types of skin cancer, however.
Media reports have suggested that the risk of skin cancer increases by 84% for men who take sildenafil. As Daniel Pendick explained in a recent Harvard Health Blog post, this statistic is misleading, as it refers to the relative risk, comparing two specific groups - the study’s participants who did not take sildenafil and the participants who did.
The absolute risk, Pendick notes, is 0.43%, meaning that the number of cases per 1,000 men increased from 4.3 among the men who didn’t take sildenafil to 8.6 among the men who did.
Other erectile dysfunction drugs, such as tadalafil (Cialis) and vardenafil (Levitra) were not included in the study, as they had not been approved when the research began.
The authors noted that future studies might examine different populations, different dosing regimens, longer follow-up periods, and latency of exposure.
“Our results should be interpreted cautiously and are insufficient to alter current clinical recommendations,” they wrote. “Nevertheless, our data provide epidemiological evidence on possible skin adverse effects of PDE5A inhibitors and support continued investigation of this relationship.”
In a JAMA Internal Medicine Invited Commentary, Dr. June K. Robinson recommended that physicians screen men for melanoma when writing prescriptions for sildenafil. Older men with a history of serious sunburns are among the most vulnerable.
Additional training on melanomas might be required for some physicians, but the end result could be quite beneficial, Robinson explained. For example, after eight hours of training in Germany, a group of primary care physicians screened men for melanoma and decreased mortality from 1.9/100,000 men before screening to 1.0/100,000 men after screening.
“Early detection, which may make melanoma a curable disease, may be achieved by physicians performing screening in the at-risk population for melanoma,” Robinson wrote.
