Vulvodynia - Causes And Symptoms Of It!

Vulvodynia is generally identified as a condition which causes chronic back pain or vulvar pain but having no identifiable cause. The causes as well as the nature of the condition are very obscure, and until recent times, it had never been considered to be an actual pain syndrome. What is commonly affected is the vulva, or the external female genital organs, consisting of the clitoris, labia and the vaginal opening.

Generally, there are two types of vulvodynia:

  1. Generalized vulvodynia: this can mean pain in any part of the vulva occurring erratically at different times
  2. Vulvar vestibulitis syndrome: this is limited to the vestibule, or the vaginal opening. It has similar characteristics of a burn, and pain can be incurred only when contact is made, say during sexual intercourse.

Symptoms
Although not life threatening, signs and symptoms of vulvodynia can still cause a ton of problems for women. They can create much complication when it comes to daily activities as well as other feelings, like sexual frustration, agitation, depression and low self-esteem.

Symptoms can be very erratic and can occur once in a while or all the time. They may be limited to just one specific area or can affect the entire vulva, interfering with daily activities such as walking, exercising and sexual intercourse. Here are some common signs and symptoms:-

  1. A burning or stinging sensation
  2. An aching or throbbing sensation
  3. May swell and you may experience soreness;
  4. Severe itching and agitation

Causes
Because the causes are not identifiable, extensive research is still going on in order to decipher the nature of the syndrome. A few possible causes may include:

  1. Nerve irritation or injury
  2. Genetic abnormalities
  3. Muscle spasms
  4. Hormonal changes
  5. Abnormal responses to infections or traumatic injuries
  6. Hypersensitivity to yeast infections
  7. Allergies to certain chemicals or substances
  8. History of sexual abuse
  9. Frequent antibiotic use

If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

For the lump in the breast is operation required? After mammogram also do we need to get operated and remove that lump? How much does it cost?

MBBS, DNB - Surgery, Fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology
Oncologist, Gurgaon
It is not necessary that every lump in the breast requires operation. It depends upon the nature of lump. Some benign (non cancerous) lumps can be left as such if they are small in size but routine follow up is required. Surgery is required in cases when size of lump is increasing or is painful or for cosmetic reasons or malignant lump (cancerous). Cost depends upon the type of procedure done for that particular lump.

Usually with PCOD the women are tend to gain weight automatically.. so gradually you should... But my advise is to get treated with homoeoapthic medicine as it can cure PCOD...and then you will go either side to increase or reduce..

This hot season prefer cold soup instead of warm. You can try cucumber lemon coriander soup or beetroot capsicum tomato soup. Add oregano n basil for that antioxidant punch.

10 Health Benefits of Peas

10 Health Benefits of Peas

Peas are really little powerhouses of nutrition that are a boon for your health and the whole planet. Read all their benefits, how to use them properly, and some easy recipes.  We start with the benefits of this tasty powerfood.

1.  Weight Management:

Peas are low fat but high everything else.  A cup of peas has less than 100 calories but lots of protein, fiber and micro-nutrients.

2. Stomach cancer prevention:

Peas contain high amounts of a health-protective polyphenol called coumestrol. A study in Mexico City determined you only need 2 milligrams per day of this phytonutrient to prevent stomach cancer. A cup of peas has at least 10.

3. Anti-aging, strong immune system, and high energy:

This comes from the high levels of anti-oxidants including:

  • flavinoids: = catechin and epicatechin
  • carotenoid= alpha-carotene and beta-carotene
  • phenolic acids = ferulic and caffeic acid
  • polyphenols = coumestrol

4. Prevention of wrinkles, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, bronchitis, osteoporosis and candida

These come from peas strong anti-inflammatory properties. Excess inflammation has also been linked to, heart disease, cancer, and aging in general. These properties include:

  • Pisumsaponins I and II and pisomosides A and B are anti-inflammatory phytonutrients found almost exclusively in peas.
  • vitamin C and vitamin E, and a good amount of the antioxidant mineral zinc
  • omega-3 fat in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA).

5.  Blood sugar regulation:

High fibre slows and protein slows down how fast sugars are digested.
The anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory prevent or reverse insulin resistance (type 2 diabetes)
All carbohydrates are natural sugars and starches with no white sugars or chemicals to worry about.

6. Heart disease prevention:

The many antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds support healthy blood vessels. The formation of plaque along our blood vessel walls starts with chronic, excessive oxidative stress and inflammation.

The generous amounts of vitamin B1 and folate, B2, B3, and B6 reduce homocysteine levels  which are  risk factor for heart disease.

7. Healthy for the environment:

  • Peas work with bacteria in the soil to ‘fix’ nitrogen from the air and deposit it in the soil. This reduces the need for artificial fertilizers since one of their main ingredients is nitrogen.
  • After peas have been harvested the remaining plant easily breaks down to create more organic fertilizer for the soil.
  • Peas are also able to grow on minimal moisture so they are a perfect crop in many areas not needing irrigation or using up valuable water supplies.

8.  Prevent constipation:

The high fiber content in peas improves bowel health and peristalsis.

9. Healthy bones

Just one cup of peas contain 44% of your Vitamin K which helps to anchor calcium inside the bones. It’s B vitamins also help to prevent osteoporosis.

10.  Reduces bad cholesterol:

The niacin in peas helps reduce, the production of triglycerides and VLDL (very low-density lipoprotein, which results in in less bad cholesterol, increased HDL (“good”) cholesterol, and lowered triglycerides.

Actually I want to conceive in may 2016 I had an ectopic pregnancy and operated one tube and do not have much feeling at the time of sex can girl can also get pregnant with proper feeling of sex.

MBBS , DGO , FIMAS

Actually I want to conceive in may 2016 I had an ectopic pregnancy and operated one tube and do not have much feeling...
Feeling of sex has no role in conception. Check your other tube if it's normal by hsg after consulting gynaecologist. Discharge of semen in vagina during fertile period is enough for pregnancy if other parameters are normal.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Unwanted 72 will not work after 72 hours. You should consult a gynecologist for further abortion procedures. Take care.

Hi I want to know how much gap is required for pregnancy as I have lost my 7th month pregnancy in October 2015.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
You should avoid next pregnancy for 6 months from the last 7 month delivery. Chances of repeat abortion or pretem delivery increases if one becomes pregnant within 6 months of preterm delivery. Also if it was caused by any viral infection, then it will get cured automatically within 3 months time. Use contraception for 6 months. Best one to use are oral contraceptive pills. As you had preterm delivery it is better to put cervical stitch next time at 14 weeks of pregnancy to prevent another preterm delivery.
