Dear Anand, Cough is a symptom of many disorders from smoker's cough to cancer of lungs. So instead of suppressing it by syrup, go to a doctor and get diagnosed and treated properly. Whatever is the diagnosis, you need to motivate yourself to quit smoking. All the best.

I am in depression since two weeks because of lover problem can suggest for better reason to relaxation.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I am in depression since two weeks because of lover problem can suggest for better reason to relaxation.
5 Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

My mom is 40 years old and she is suffering from insomnia. In the night, when she goes to bed, She feels anxiety and due to which, she is not able to sleep whole night. Kindly prescribe.

My mom is 40 years old and she is suffering from insomnia. In the night, when she goes to bed, She feels anxiety and ...
Are you sure that she has this anxiety only at night? If so she is afraid of the darkness, or of being alone, or of death. Any which way you look at it anxiety is fear based. If she meets with a counselor she could easily identify the reason for the anxiety. She may do some of the following to get better sleep. For the medication she will need to meet a psychiatrist in person for a prescription. She should not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether she sleeps or not. She must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if she does not get sleep. If she does not get sleep, she could just lie down and if she has a bed lamp (or you could get her one) let her lie down and read something light but not exciting. Her eyes will tire and she will fall asleep. If she likes she may also put on the light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether she is a visual or auditory person, she may watch TV in a lying down position until she feels sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If she is one of them, please do so). Place the head side of her bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on her body or in the room, or on her sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in her bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, let her lie down on her left ear as much as possible. Do not let her sleep directly under an overhead fan. She must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever she eats in the other meals, let her have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep she may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before she sleeps at night. If she knows Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then let her practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before she sleeps.

I am consuming alcohol, smoke, tobacco from last 15 years, I am addicted very badly, even I am suffering from high blood pressure and sugar at boundary level, I am feeling light headed, much fatigue, excessive sweat, body pain, memory loss, please guide me for a good recovery.

If you are an occasional smoker - with public messages, health awareness programs and your own doctors advice, you can quit. If you are a regular smoker, motivational therapy with a trained psychotherapist or a psychiatrist and enormous will power will help you quit. If you are a diseased smoker, consult a de addiction psychiatrist at the earliest. He may give you anti-smoking medications and de addiction treatment. The same applies to alcohol or chewing tobacco.

Best age to stop smoking is before 40 only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like nicorette and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement.

I depressed lot due to love failure. I can't come out of it. Guide to get relief.

I depressed lot due to love failure. I can't come out of it. Guide to get relief.
Breaking up is not easy, especially if the relationship lasted for a long time. But you will need to accept the reality and move on. This fixation on her must die out eventually. You must first exorcise her out of your mind. You can either do that by talking her out of your emotions first to a counselor and then starting on a new relationship by completely walking away from the past. You must express your bitterness and all the fond memories with the intention of purging her out the system. The professional will expertly guide you through the motion of exhaustively clearing away all memories along with the emotions so that you will be free of the ghosts of the past and are able to venture into new relationships. Once you have done that the memories will gradually fade away but the huge advantage you will have is that the emotions attached to those memories will be minus the energy of the feelings and they will become impotent. In the meantime I hope you have cleared your belongings and surroundings of all memories of this person; and also that you do not haunt the places and situations you used to visit. If she has ditched you, you must learn to forgive her for your own sake and live a life free of her eventually in the mind and then in the heart. She is now history, and has probably happily moved on. You need to be thankful that you were not betrothed to her when she dumped you: that would have been worse. And you need to learn not to give yourself to someone so much if the time was not ripe or suitable to do so. Now you should pitch yourself into a new relationship but do not focus too much into the serious end of the outcome but on the moment-to-moment development to see how it all unfolds to really enjoy that person. If you continue to cling on to her memories even after that, you may have some attachment problems too to explore with the counselor. To get out of the depression you must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, and wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend yoga classes etc. Watch a lot of sitcoms on tv or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. I hope you can find someone to love and be loved soon. Whatever happens please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in god to alleviate your sufferings. If you are still not relieved from the depression, then go first to a counselor.

Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advise. Take care.

Actually my brother started smoking how to quit smoking n he wanted to consult a doctor for that reason so that he might recommend some tablets.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
He could visit a doctor who will prescribe some medicines that help with the initial craving. But he can also do the following: It is indeed a very noble thought that you want to help your brother. However, it is now very clear that in any addiction, the addict must want to stop the habit himself for any success. All you can do is keep advising him, but also highlight the dangers of tobacco smoke with correct information. And believe me that it is indeed very scary. One thing that hits a lot of youngsters, boys in particular, is that you will lose your erectile capacity and over a period of time even your sexual potency can diminish. And of course everyone has heard about cancer, which is very frightful. You could take him to any police station or cancer hospital to view the condition of cancer-caused disfigurement and it is horrific. These things do help in dissuading people from smoking. In other words, create awareness such that it works as a deterrent to further smoking. You would have done him a great favor. He will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. He should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time he feels like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. He may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces substantially. He may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep himself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that he has quit smoking. Here?s a piece of very good advice: even if he accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world ? he can start the cessation all over again. He must persevere with the best support until he defeats this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. All the damage he incurred earlier because of the smoking can be reverted back to normal in quick time.

From 4 years I been an smoker till now sandenlly I feel so pain heart side. How could be it quit it smoking habit.
Stop smoking asap, as it is pollution levels in the environment are high and all of us in delhi/mumbai are inhaling 8-10 cigarettes a day ruining our lungs and hearts, low levels of oxygen in circulating blood can trigger a heart attack, you should quit smoking through will power for your sake and for sake of your loved ones. You have pain on the heart side, remember all pains are not due to heart, if there are no other symptoms, try a painkiller like meftal, if it is a muscular pain, it will give you relief, but heart pain is sharp shooting and does not get corrected by painkillers. Do give a feedback.

You are done giving your exam sang now you jaunt have to wait for results. You feel depressed because you are anticipating failure and as if something very wrong would happen. Let me tell you" you have no control on results" so your thinking is" not going to change results" also even if you fail" the world is not going to end" as you feel in your mind. When we can unconditionally accept success we should be welcoming failures also, and modify ourselves according to it and turn it into successes. If you still continue feeling sad and depressed you should be started on treatment.

Homeopathic Treatment For Epilepsy!

BHMS
Homeopath, Kolkata
Homeopathic Treatment For Epilepsy!

Epilepsy is a disease that affects the brain's nerve cells and triggers the release of abnormal electrical signals. This can cause temporary malfunctioning of the other brain cells and result in sudden loss of consciousness. Epilepsy can affect both children and adults.

Epilepsy can be treated in a number of ways. One of the most preferred forms of treatment is homeopathy. Homeopathy addresses both the physical symptoms of the disease and the underlying factors triggering it. Another big advantage of homeopathic treatment is that it has negligible side effects.

A few homeopathic remedies that can be used to treat epilepsy are:

  • Cicuta: Cicuta is very effective when used to treat cases of epilepsy where convulsions are marked by violent, body distortions. This can include the horrific backward bending of the spine (learn about the exercises for spine). These convulsions also make the person's face turn blue and trigger a locked jaw. This can also be used to effectively treat epilepsy cases triggered by head injuries and worms.
  • Artemisia Vulgaris: This is used to often treat cases of Petit Mal Epilepsy which are characterized by staring into space, leaning forwards or backwards and stopping a sentence abruptly. It also addresses fear that triggers epileptic attacks.
  • Stramonium: Convulsions triggered by exposure to bright lights or shiny objects can be treated with this homeopathic remedy. In such cases, the patient may not lose consciousness but experiences jerks in the muscles of the upper body.
  • Cuprum Met: This homeopathic remedy is used to treat seizures that are preceded by experiencing an aura in the knees (know more about the Causes and Symptoms of Knee Pain). Other symptoms that characterize this sort of an epileptic attack are spasms that begin in the fingers and toes and gradually spread to the rest of the body and jerking of muscles. This can also be used to treat convulsions that accompany menstruation and follow the delivery of a baby.
  • Bufo Rana: Not all epileptic attacks occur you are awake. Attacks that occur in your sleep can be treated with bufo rana. Such epileptic attacks are accompanied by experiencing an aura in the genital regions. This is especially helpful for women who experience seizures during menstruation.
  • Hyoscyamus: Some epileptic fits are followed by a deep sleep. This type of epileptic attacks can be treated with Hyoscyamus. Other symptoms addresses by this homeopathic medicine are fidgeting with bed clothes, fidgeting with fingers and muscular twitching.

These homeopathic remedies can be taken on their own or in combination with other medicines.
