Using Non-medicinal Ways to Treat Pain

When somebody is diagnosed with a short term or a life-threatening disease, one of the main things they are likely to stress over is pain. Though, there are many effective medicines for pain, it is important to realize that medicines are not by any means the only treatment method for pain. For instance, radiation treatment can be very useful in treating pain from cancer and also in facilitating bone pain identified with the disease.

The term "alternative therapy" for the most part is used to describe any treatment or alternative that does not require medicinal attention. Alternate treatment includes a combination of controls, including acupuncture, guided imagery, chiropractic treatment, yoga, hypnosis, relaxation, biofeedback, massage, homegrown cures, aromatherapy and numerous others.

There are various non-medicinal methods for adapting to pain. They can be used all alone or as a part of a mix with medication treatments. Some of the alternatives patients have discovered include:

  1. Massage: Many individuals discover relief from delicate back rub, and some clinics and massage parlors have trained massage specialists. A few studies have found that a back rub is extremely successful in soothing pain.
  2. Relaxation: Guided imagery, spellbinding, breathing procedures and relaxation arts like tai chi are effective and viable, especially when a patient is experiencing debilitating pain.
  3. Acupuncture: A few studies have found that acupuncture can be useful in calming pain for individuals with genuine ailments, for example - cancer.
  4. PhysiotherapyIn case a person has been very active before and is currently bed-ridden, even simply moving the hands and feet a little bit with proper physiotherapy movements can offer help.
  5. Pet treatment: If you have episodes of pain that last 5, 10, or 15 minutes, attempting to discover something pleasant - like petting an animal's delicate fur can divert and help in relaxation.
  6. Gel packs: These are basic packs that can be warmed or cooled and used to ease pain.
  7. Chiropractic treatment: It is the most widely recognized non-surgical treatment for back pain. It is usually done by a chiropractor who will tune your nerves and other parts for pain relief. Qualified chiropractors are a rarity and hence one must be careful while dealing with them.
  8. DietA few people trust that dietary fat intake and consumption of plants that contain calming operators can ease pain by restricting irritation.
  9. Herbal treatment: The effectiveness of herbs is questionable. Do consult a doctor or a specialist since they could have a side effect of their own. Some of them can interact with the medicines you might be taking. This may cause harm to your health.

Alternative therapies to pain relief are not always harmless. As mentioned above, herbal remedies could have few side effects too. Likewise, one should always take a second opinion or consult someone before taking a decision on the kind of alternative therapy they opt for. It is better if you consult an interventional pain physician first and then follow his advice on how to follow these methods for maximal pain relief.

If you have got examined by an orthopaedician, n had diagnosed acl tear, then get a mri of knee joint, to confirm type of tear. Then accordingly treatment can be started. If its a complete tear, unstable knee, then acl needs to be repaired at the earliest.

When about to sleep leg suddenly starts paining in calf and ankle areas. Throbbing kind of pain which goes when sat up or leg vigorously moved but then comes back again.The pain had gone during winters but since temp rising it's come back again.

Core strengthening exercises- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day.

Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. SPRING BEDS, FOLDING BEDS OR THICK MATRESS ARE HARMFUL Use no pillow under the head. DO HOT FOMANTATION. Paracetamol 250mg OD & SOS x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab OD x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again.. Do not ignore .It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Hello lybrate-user, From what symptoms you are showing, I think you have strained your back while doing certain exercises in incorrect form at gym. You need to rest your back for few days, so no gym for sometime till the pain settles. Also, I would suggest you to see a Physiotherapist/ Orthopedic Doctor. Till then: 1. Keep icing your back 10 mins/ 3-4 times a day 2. No gym exercises 3. No lifting weights 4. No bending over 5. If you have to travel for long hours in car, take a break every 20 mins and take a small walk 6. Similarly at work place/college, if its lot of sitting, get up every 20 mins and take a small walk For further questions feel free to post THANK YOU Dr.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Virechan n raktmokshan panchkarm treatment of Ayurveda will help you the most. Apply satdaut grith ointment locally 3-4 times a day. Triphala choorn-3 gm arogyawardani vati-2 tab thrice a day before food with 1 glass lukewarm water. Khadiraritam -20 ml twice a day with equal amount of lukewarm water after food.
