How does working in shifts affect your health?

As stated earlier, the first and foremost effect of working in shifts is lack of sleep. It is very common to see a night shift worker with dark circles, puffy eyes and a fatigued body.

Another very serious effect of working in a night shift can be emotional aloofness or feeling of being ignored and lonely. Although this may not be a case with all, but definitely affects the life of some night shifters. The feeling of being alone and left out can set in because of not being able to spend time with friends and family. A little time management can help you overcome this problem.
Night shift workers are more likely to suffer from cancer of various types, such as prostate cancer and breast cancer. Research has shown that shift workers are also at a higher risk of heart disease and stroke.

Most night shift workers suffer from various gastrointestinal problems such as constipation, diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. This can happen due to two reasons. Firstly erratic meal timings and skipping meals can upset the stomach. The second reason is snacking unnecessarily. When you’re awake at night, you’re bound to feel hungry. The body would not like to eat a proper meal in the middle of the night and you end up eating chips, biscuits and other junk foods.

Eating at incorrect time and eating incorrect foods also increases the chances of acidity and heartburn. Blood sugar levels may fluctuate and this puts night shift workers at a higher risk of diabetes.
Due to a disturbed biological clock, a lot of hormonal imbalances also occur in body. This can lead to thyroid and other disorders of the endocrine system. Women experience problems in their monthly menstrual cycle and may also face fertility issues.

Effect of night shift on your diet

Before we see the weight gain diet plan for indian night shift workers, it is important to know the effects night shift on your diet schedule.

While working in shifts, a person is unable to eat proper meals. Night shift workers sleep during the day. Hence they may not eat as many meals as another person would do during the day. Hence many of them who work in night shifts lose a lot of weight and become undernourished. The body is deprived of nutritious food and is not given food at the appropriate time. Eventually the situation gets worse and you feel very weak. It becomes impossible to concentrate on work and the sick leaves start increasing. Before the problem goes out of control, you need to look for a solution and get back to work. So here is your life saver weight gain diet plan for indian night shift workers.

Tips on healthy eating during night shifts

It might not be possible to get your shift changed and even tougher to get a new job but it isn’t actually difficult to take care of your health and gain some weight. Just calculate your current dietary requirement and consume at least 500 calories more than that per day. The only thing you need to ensure is that you eat healthy foods. If you eat junk, your weight will increase by leaps and bounds and it will bring lots of unwanted health problems along with it. Keep your caffeine intake to the minimum, since it causes acidity.

Although it isn’t easy to get in to this routine but it is better if you eat your meals at the proper time during the day. Do not skip any meal. If you work all night and reach home early in the morning, do not go to sleep on an empty stomach. Have a glass of milk and then sleep soundly. Try to get a good amount of sleep. Talk to your family members and make it very clear that you don’t want to be disturbed till a certain time. If you get about 6 hours of undisturbed sleep, it is good enough. Of course, you won’t mind another 2-3 hours but 6 hours is the minimum you should get on an average day.

Sedentary lifestyle is the reason. Cut back all fatty foods from your diet and exercise daily for at least 30 minutes.

When I do running then after few days pain start in front part of leg (below knee). I tried to continue but couldn't. I took a break n again started running but after few days pain rose again. What should I do please help.

It's called as shin splints. You need good diet, calcium and vitamin d intake. Proper shoes and good running surface, not the hard surface.

Get your haemoglobin and blood pressure and blood sugar checked come back with reports till then drink at least 3 lts water in a day eat plenty of fresh fruits, salads and vegetables take adequate rest and 6-8 hours sleep at night.

Hello, Be positive and happy with whatever you have got. stress also leads to poor resullts. Have liberal intake of milk and its products. take high calorie fruits like banana,jackfruit,grapes,chickoo. Have nuts,dried fruits with mik,curd etc. Good quality proteins like eggs,lean chicken,tofu,fish will help you as well. Strength training helps a lot.

Few things related to headache so that we can plan the treatment accordingly - If pain is associated with blurred or decreased vision than check your eye sight for refractive error - If the pain is associated with cold and fever than we have to rule out sinusitis as the cause and If the pain is pulsatile in nature and with a throbbing pain usually with an aura than we have to rule out Migrane as the cause - if the pain is associated with neck problems than we have to rule out cervical spondylosis as the cause - If the pain is associated with either low or high BP or due to hyperacidity than we have to treat the cause after examination.

Hello, Gaining weight is a slow process which requires patience and dedication! It not only depends upon the amount of food you consume daily, but also about eating Sensibly, depends upon your genes, your body's proper metabolism, assimilation and absorption, the levels of stress/ tension in your life, and any underlying medical condition you have! The food what and how you eat, makes the difference! For increasing your weight, concentrate on the below points (if you don’t have any medical condition) which helps in gaining weight in a right way without harming your body. - Consume more healthy fats. Foods containing healthy fats are full of nutrients and also high in calories, making them a great option for weight gain. Foods containing plant fats should be your first option - this includes items such as nuts, seeds, peanut butter, avocados and olive oil. Foods containing healthy animals fats include lean meats and full fat dairy products - although if you have high cholesterol, you should probably stick to low-fat options. -Eat more protein. Good sources of protein include lean meat, fish and poultry, in addition to eggs, whole grains, dairy products and legumes. -Drink more calories. Try drinking a large glass of orange juice in the mornings (along with your normal breakfast). Drink a glass or two of full-cream milk throughout the day. -Have 6 small and frequent meals in a day. -Gain muscle mass. It's a good idea to continue to exercise while you attempt to gain weight the healthy way. The most important thing through the entire weight gain process is to stay healthy - eating a balanced diet and continuing to exercise throughout. -Take enough of rest and sleep for rejuvenation of the cells and tissues. -Think Positive which will help you in achieving your target of gaining weight. -Avoid taking unnecessary stress/ tension. Medication: Take Schwabe’s Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos. Both thrice daily ½ an hour before meals for 3 months. Revert.

Ideally Masturbation should not be more than 2-3 times a week for any adult. It will keep you sexually active. Too much of everything is bad as always. Along with this schedule of masturbation you need proper diet which should consist of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and one hour of jogging early morning every day. This will keep you fit for future activity also. You are probably not taking enough fluids and water. Increase them. At your age, usually ED does not happen. May be you are thinking negative so that may be cause. Stay relaxed and carrier oriented, follow my instructions given above and most likely things will improve by itself. 1. Apply proctosedyl ointment 2-3 times daily before and after passing stool. 2. Sit in a bath tub containing warm water with little salt for some time twice daily (sitz bath). 3. Take two tea spoonful lof softovac/naturolax powder with a glass of warm water/milk in the evening or syrup duphalac 3 tsf (15 ml) twice daily if there is constipation. 4. Take fiber containing diet, plenty of green leafy vegetables and fruits. 5. If no relief consult a general surgeon for sclero therapy/rubber band ligation/laser or electric coagulation/surgery.

Try to have evening walk for 15 min before you sleep. Take milk at evening. Avoid tea coffee at night try to meditate by focussing on breath while sleeping or sitting.
