I am 41 years old recovering from Gbs since 3 months. Unfortunately developed dvt 25 days back after stopping fragmin 2500 iu a week prior to that. I am moving with support couple of times a day. I am now on fragmin and Acitrom. I have two questions. 1. How long does the threat of PE last after the onset of dvt? 2. When can I start full fledged physiotherapy?

A migraine can cause severe throbbing pain or a pulsing sensation, usually on just one side of the head. It's often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can cause significant pain for hours to days and can be so severe that the pain is disabling. Warning symptoms known as aura may occur before or with the headache. These can include flashes of light, blind spots, or tingling on one side of the face or in your arm or leg. If your symptoms match with above symptoms, diagnosis of Migraine is clear and you do not need an MRI. But incase your headaches are not better after taking Migraine medicines, then you need to go for further investigations. Homoeopathic medicines will benefit you and treat these headaches . Incase you want to take Homoeopathic treatment, you can consult me through Lybrate.

I recently read that researchers believe certain foods might cure Alzheimer's disease. Is this true? If so, which foods do this and how much would you have to consume together the benefits?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
There have been some claims that coconut oil could be used as a treatment, or even a cure, for alzheimer's disease. However, there is currently not enough experimental evidence to back up these claims.

My 1year old son is cp patient. His development (physical and mental) growth is very slow. He neither sit alone nor his neck stand still. I consult with a paediatric and physiotherapist and they suggest levipil and lioresal syrup and some exercise respectively. But the progress is not so satisfactory. What should I do for his better treatment? Is he be normal in his future life?

DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Hyderabad
Dear friend, unfortunate that your son is a cp patient, but worry, he will definitely improve. Difficult to predict how much he will improve without seeing the patient status. Best thing is that he is only 1 year old. There is ample of time for his development. You started treatment in right time. Continue physiotherapy, provide adequate healthy diet. Learn all type of physical excercises, limb positioning taught by the physiotherapist, practice it daily frequently at home. Improvement will be slow, do not loose your heart, but improvement will definitely occur, how much improvement will occur that depend on your effort and patience.

Hi Excessive saliva because of Parkinson's for 2 yrs. She uses tissue paper every minute. How to fix this problem.

Hi Excessive saliva because of Parkinson's for 2 yrs. She uses tissue paper every minute. How to fix this problem.
Dear lybrate-user, Excessive saliva is a common problem in parkinsons disease. There are medications available for the same. However, medications will reduce the saliva in the mouth making it dry and difficult to chew and swallow food which needs moist environment in the mouth. I suggest you to have a check on her posture, swallowing frequency. Ask her to swallow saliva as much as possible. Use slight inclined position while she is seated.
