Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Alcohol addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and abuse —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan. Take care.

Dear lybrate user. Welcome to lybrate. I can understand. Loosing someone near and dear is called grief and depression related to grief is pretty normal. But this sort of depression does not stay for long. This depression gets cleared within a span of some weeks. The best option for you is to undergo counseling and depression related therapy. Anyhow, there is nothing to worry. Most of the psychological problems can be cured with scientific therapy methods. Take care.

There is no need to be alarmed to this extent. Between the ages of 16 to 18 years (in your case it is delayed by a year or so), for a duration of almost exactly two years, all boys and girls will have a spurt in the production of the male sex hormone, testosterone. Due to this hormone there are three identified effects, all because of this chemical: you will become sexually active; you will become aggressive and rebellious; and you will all suffer acne and pimple problems. You have no choice because this is a body clock mechanism that gets activated and over the two years that it prevails, it will gradually subside and return to normal. But during this time you could (driven by the hormones) do something inadvertent that there may be no turning the clock back. So you need to exercise control and channelize this energy through games and sports and hobbies. Also you would have developed secondary sexual characteristics and they seek to be used and seek fulfillment. Again this is not a problem but the drive can be very bad for those who do not have sufficiently well-developed value systems or a good conscience. These kids can lose control and become reckless. Most kids have a problem, like you do, around their sexual urges and may resort to acting out in the form of masturbation, pornography, and other sexual exploits. If you indulge in any of these you can get into a guilt trip or develop an addiction that may plague you for a long time. There is no threat to your mental well being. Your character will certainly be tested, and it will reflect your development in this regard. The best thing to do is to get a sex education from a counselor and ask all the questions you wish answered. Otherwise, you will want to experiment or seek information from your peers who are not adequately qualified to really do justice to your queries.

Mr. lybrate-user depressive and anxiety symptoms will be part of any normal human. Whether you suffer from a syndrome level to get treated with drugs needs expert evaluation by psychiatrist. My advice to you is kindly avoid smoking / alcohol if any. Stay with family and friends. Take breaks for yourself. Do exercise and yoga regularly. Don't avoid breakfast. Maintain a proper sleep pattern. If you still feel to have symptoms kindly consult a psychiatrist.

It's completely your decision to continue having bisexual relationships but be ready to face consequences if ever your spouse knows about it. Homosexuality or bisexuality is a lifestyle and not a psychiatric disorder. To come out of homosexuality you have to decide for yourself what lifestyle you would like to choose, it becomes difficult when family and society don't accept the lifestyle. A homosexual or bisexual has no less dignity than others but most of these have anxiety or depression related to their orientation. These thoughts of anxiety and depression can be resolved by a psychiatrist or counselor.

My mother in law tortured me wid workload and emotionally. Father in law is a puppent in the hands of mil and husband egoistic on his own. After leaving the house twice my husband agreed to move separately but rented out in the same building and spends most of the time with parents. I was a rank student back in college now just a housewife finding my ways in unknown city of mumbai. I and my husband fight daily and other day I set my dress on fire in frustration and suffering from burns. My husband saved me. Got me a washing machine and hired a maid. I come from a rich family so are my inlaws but are misers and I am not used to doing all work on my own. Yet aftr doing was always illtreated. I have orregular periods since maturing and get frequent headaches now because of all stress. My husband dont love me much since I am not that goodlooking and a small town girl. Dear , I can understand your emotional pain and distress. I am sure, for the time being, you are not depressed, but disappointed, distressed. You are crying because you are distressed. You should not fight with your husband because there is no use. Slowly you need to learn to live with the present situation and start loving your husband. In due course, you will see a change in his behavior. You should post a private question to me. I will explain what is to be done. Take care.

How can I increase my memory? I forget things after some time. Please suggest me.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Do some of these recommendations very faithfully: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

My father has a disease named Parkinson. Will you please let me know how to cure it.

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Patna
Parkinsons disease is a neurological illness. It has chronic and gradually progressive course. It occurs due to some neurochemical activity/ imbalance in brain in the form of reduced dopaminergic activity and increased cholinergic activity. Medicines are available for treatment of this disorder like levo-dopa, syn-dopa, carbi-dopa, ropinirole, pramipexole, amantadine, trihexyphenidyl, benztropine etc. You may consult a neurologist or physician who may start the therapy at the earliest. With medicines symptoms can be controlled but medicines should be taken for years and may be for whole life. In later years of life he may require your assistance in daily care also. I wish your father a better health.

Try to drink three cups of chamomile tea a day when you're feeling anxious. Chamomile contains two chemicals that promote relaxation. Eat 2 cups celery, onions, or a mixture of the two, raw or cooked, with your meals for a week or two. Both vegetables contain large amounts of potassium and folic acid, deficiencies of which can cause nervousness. Keep a diary to track -- and then eliminate -- events that might trigger anxiety. Also make note of foods, as some of the things you eat may be responsible for the symptoms. Indulge in noncompetitive exercising, such as walking, bicycling, or swimming. It's good for you, both physically and emotionally. Meditate, pray, or indulge in a mental flight of fantasy. Do whatever it takes to give your mind a break. Breathe in, breathe out. Slowly, deeply. This is relaxing. Chat with a friend, a psychotherapist, a clergyman. Talking about your anxiety can relieve it. Make a mental list and check it twice. It doesn't matter what's on the list. This is simply an exercise in repetitive thinking that can distract you from what's causing the anxiety.
