Am 19 and hve about 2cylinder specs and my eyes turns red how can I get rid of this.

FPRS, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Pune
Dear lybrate user, red eyes could be because of many reasons but commonly it is due to allergy or infection. You need to visit eye specialist to differentiate between the two as the treatment is different. Also get your eyes checked for any glass power. Unfortunately there are no natural medications to remove spectacles permanently. You can either try contact lenses or plan for refractive lasik laser surgery.

I use my mobile from a short distance for 6-7 hours in a day. I also use it in the night for watching movie with a lesser brightness. Can this cause any vision problem for me in future?

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Prolonged working on laptop/tv/mobile can cause computer vision syndrome. Computer vision syndrome is a condition resulting from focusing the eyes on a computer or other display device for, uninterrupted periods of time. Some symptoms of cvs include a. Headaches b blurred vision c. Neck pain d redness in the eyes e. Eye strain f dry eyes sometimes watery eyes these symptoms can be further aggravated by improper lighting conditions. Measures to reduce this include 1. Work under proper light. 2. Blink a lot. 3. Cold compresses 4. Use good lubricating eyedrop. Computer use cannot blind you or decrease your vision. So do not worry.

I am a 17 year old girl and my eye-sight is constantly decreasing. My current power is -6.25. Is it true that power stops altering after 18 years because if not so, my eyesight can cause me great troubles.

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
There is no medication or food for improving eyesight or to get rid of glasses. If not interested in glasses then you can try a. Contact lens b. Lasik laser as your age is now 17 years so your number will not increase much now whether you wear glasses or not as number becomes stable at age of 18-20 yrs. Having said that I advise you to eat balanced diet including green vegetables and seasonal fruits for keeping eyes and body healthy. As you are not comfortable with contact lens then go for lasik. Lasik is a very easy and painless procedure. If you want to get rid of glasses then go for lasik.

I am losing my head hair and watching is also from 2 years what is this and how can I stop loosing hair fall and what are the symptoms fungal infection in my head.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Please note the following in respect to your queries: there can be many reasons behind your hair fall - like mental worries, nutritional deficiency, hereditary and anaemia. Take homeopathic medicine wiesbaden 30 (5 drops in little water) twice a day for 15 days and revert. Apply jaborandi hair oil. Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily. Eat healthy and balanced food like pulses, green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and nuts etc. Add more vitamin rich food to your diet. Avoid stress and anger by meditation. Cut down the use of hair spray, hair gel. Take sound/good sleep. Avoid too much exposure of your hair to sunlight/ hair styling tools, as they damage hair and cause split ends.

But I always refuses specs because when I use it always makes my to bulk and it become a abnormal shape thats why I refused it ,Is there will be a chance in decrease in my vision. It was actually occurred in my 16 Yr old in an accident how can overcome this problems sir.

Whether you wear glass or not ,it is not going to affect your power . Myopic power is inherited from either mother or father side & is basically hereditary in nature ,maximum increase in myopic power takes place between 13 to 21 yrs in male & between 13 yrs to 19 yrs in female because maximum body growth takes place between these periods. There is no direct medicine to check the increase in myopic power but with the help of balanced diet ,green vegetables & seasonal fruits  one can slow the speed in the increase of myopic  power, one can take the help of yoga pranayam, swimming, gym &these things definitely slow the speed of increase in myopic power.

I asked with a doctor he said that an small chalazion is impossible to cure with medicine. Please advice what should i do to cure?

MBBS, DNB (Ophthalmology), Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS)
Ophthalmologist, Thane
Yes It is true that Chalazion doesn't go away with medical treatment as it a pus encapsulated in deeper layers of lid unlike stye Which is superficial infection with a pus point on skin. Chalazion is usually due to chronic eye strain mostly from Refractive error (glasses no.) And usually patient is not wearing glasses or wearing wrong prescription glasses. So the cause must be treated so that there is no recurring Chalazion. I prefer to give hot fomentation trial for every case of Chalazion too. If it is a recent onset one then with correct glasses & hot fomentation somethimes the Chalazion may reduce. You can try it.

I have eye problem, I haven't had any yet, and my family also doesn't have any history of bad eye sight. I have tears when I see bright object and even get my eyes red. What's the problem?

FICO, DNB Ophtalmology
Ophthalmologist, Gandhinagar
Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

I am 17 years old and my eyes start burning and irritating when I use computer for reading and when I stare at it for long time (half to one hour) I had a eye check up so that I can get specs while using computer. The doctor said that I have CYL -0.5 power so you should wear the glasses . Do I really need to wear specs and I heard that everybody will have power. Is that true that everyone will have minor variations in power? Please suggest me what can I do?

Fellowship in Comprehensive Ophthalmology, DOMS
Ophthalmologist, Sangrur
Hello Your power is very small..If you dont have much vision related problem , you may avoid using glasses. Regarding burning : Prolonged working on laptop/TV/mobile can cause computer vision syndrome.
