Hi, My baby is 18 months old. He does’t eat well. Whatever he eats he vomits n he does’t even feel hungry. Can you please suggest me some medicines to increase his hunger n gain some weight? He is 11-12 kg.

12 kg at 18 months seems appropriate. Choose your babies favorite foods. Eating more is easier when you eat foods that you actually enjoy. Put some time and preparation into buying and planning out meals and snacks that it likes, that way the baby should never end up not eating just because there's nothing in the house that appeals to it. Avoid off-putting odors. Foods that have particularly strong smells can be overpowering and may turn your baby off eating a dish completely, especially if it weren't particularly hungry to begin with. Avoid foods like tuna or stinky cheese or anything which has a smell that doesn't appeal to you. Remember that hot food usually has more of an aroma than cold food, so try to give more sandwiches, salads or cold cuts of meat if smells are putting off the baby. Use herbs and spices in cooking. On the other hand, foods that have a very pleasant or fragrant smell can be very appealing and might be just the thing to get your tummy rumbling. Try adding herbs or spices to the favorite foods to create wonderful aromas and add interest to food. It will no longer be put off by bland and boring foods. Less fiber. Fiber, a nutrient found in fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods, is an essential component of any healthy diet. However, fiber-rich foods can be extremely filling, so it may be best to eat such foods only in moderation when trying to increase appetite. This should only be used as a short-term solution, however, as fiber is essential for healthy and normal body function Make meal times pleasant. Eating can be a much more enjoyable experience when you put some effort into creating a pleasant atmosphere at meal times. Put some music on, or let it watch its favorite TV show while eating or whatever the kid likes. Fresh air half an hour before a meal can help to stimulate appetite. Give enough liquids. You should aim to give between 1 and 3 glasses of water or water-based drinks a day. Drinking half a glass of water an hour before and an hour after a meal can help with digestion and ensure that there is not too much food in the stomach at any given time. However, you should avoid giving too much water directly before or during a meal, as this can decrease appetite and give a false sense of fullness. FOR MEDICATION CONSULT ONLINE IN PRIVATE

Spinal bifida should be treated as early as possible to prevent nerve damage and improve outcome. Prognosis depends on the current situation of the child in terms of leg movement and bladder and bowel control.

My baby girl is3 and half months old. Red rashes near neck due to hot weather. Crying Because of pain. Sometimes blood came near neck. I am properly cleaning neck portion after giving her bath. But unfortunately red rashes not going. please suggest what it is and it's cure.

Hi. From your description it looks like your baby has skin rashes due to sweating. This is common in children as their sweat glands are not well developed. Do not use to sweaters if the weather is not cold. Try to keep the baby in normal temparature room, neither very hot nor cold. Apply powder on the chest and neck area.

Suckling baby is the only solution for increasing breastmilk. Take plenty of water and eat good food. You have to continue breastfeeding at least till the age of 2 years.

Increasing Asthma & Allergy In Children - What Should You Do?

It is no longer so surprising to read about alarming air pollution levels in our cities. On more than one occasion, these levels have risen above the danger levels. For some people, this may simply create an annoying fog that makes it difficult to see. For others, it can cause serious health issues. Air pollution is one of the most common reasons for the growing instances of asthma and allergies. Children are most susceptible to such diseases caused by air pollution.

Asthma and Allergies
Asthma can affect children even before their fifth birthday and the condition is characterized by breathlessness caused by a constriction of the airways. While the root cause of asthma is unknown, it is usually seen that asthmatic patients are more sensitive to others to particles in the air such as pollutants, dander, dust, smoke etc. Thus, the airways construct as a reaction to these allergens. Changes in the weather, a sudden cold draft or the flu can also aggravate asthma.

Can you protect your children from asthma?
Wheezing, panting, finding it difficult to breathe and a persistent cough are some of the signs of asthma. If you notice these symptoms, you must consult a doctor immediately. At home, here are a few things you could do.

  1. Avoid exposing your children to smoke: Do not smoke around your children or allow others to smoke around them. If you cannot give up the habit, wear a smoking jacket when you smoke and take this off before you play with your children. When you’ll go out, drive with the windows up so that your child does not inhale exhaust smoke. Set your air conditioner to circulate air within the car itself.
  2. Dust often: Try and keep your home as dust free as possible. Use a wet cloth to clean so that the dust does not fly in the air. Wash all your bed linen once a week. Carpets and rugs should be vacuumed regularly or dusted outside. It may also be a good idea to invest in dust mite impermeable covers for your child’s mattress and pillows.
  3. Keep your Pets clean: If you share your home with pets, bathe them once a week and brush them daily. Do not let them climb on to the furniture or your beds. Also, avoid having their toys lie on your beds.
  4. Wear a face mask: Try and time your child’s outdoor activities when the pollution levels are low. Buy yourself and your child a face mask that will filter the air they breathe in. These should be worn whenever they play outdoors.

These simple steps could help your child be healthier and can prevent asthma and other such allergic reactions.

BHMS

Hi, He may be suffering from so-called 'Growing pains'. Simple nutritional deficiency can cause general weakness of the body. Would advise you to take homoeopathic medicines - Alfaalfa Tonic and Five Phos. - both thrice daily, and let me know about your condition after a month.
