Sleepwalking. Sleepwalking, formally known as somnambulism, is a behavior disorder that originates during deep sleep and results in walking or performing other complex behaviors while asleep. It is much more common in children than adults and is more likely to occur if a person is sleep deprived. Relaxation techniques, mental imagery, and anticipatory awakenings are the preferred treatment options for long-term treatment of people with a sleepwalking disorder. Anticipatory awakenings consist of waking the child or person approximately 15-20 minutes before the usual time of a sleepwalking episode, and then keeping him or her awake through the time during which the episodes usually occur. Relaxation and mental imagery techniques are most effective when done with the help of an experienced behavioral therapist or hypnotist.

Mr. Lybrate-user, it is seen that after quiting smoking some weight increase occurs. However, if you have diabetes then regular exercise must have been advised. If you had continued that plus diet control the weight would have remained in check. It essential to control weight for sugar control. If you have no discomfort in exercising then do regular workout and reduce the weight.

Hello lybrate-user, Hair loss, now-a-days, is common among males and females of all age groups. We all lose some hair strands everyday, however, some people lose more than normal strands in a day that can cause severe hair loss. Hair loss is mostly genetic, so if hair loss runs in your family, you are most likely to suffer from hair loss too. Hair loss happens either in clumps, that is overall hair loss, or focussed on any one part of head - especially the crown. While genetics play a big role, some additional factors can aggravate hair loss - hormonal imbalance, Alopecia areata, stress, thyroid disease, anemia, protein deficiency, chemotherapy, and low vitamin levels may cause hair loss in you. Start by following a good diet - Eat adequate amount of protein. Your hair is made up mainly of proteins. Eat eggs, cottage cheese, chicken, soya, lentils, whole grains. Vitamin C, Zinc and Vitamin B are other important nutrients for great hair health. So include lot of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains in your daily diet. Exercise daily to keep yourself healthy inside out. Next important step is to follow good hair care - Oiling your hair with a mixture of oils like olive, sesame, coconut and castor oil keeps provides moisture to your hair and prevent them from drying and breakage. Once in a week apply a good hair mask. You can mix and prepare different types of masks using eggs, green tea, olive oil, milk, gooseberry, thyme, chamomile etc. Condition your hair using organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Rosemary tea once in awhile. A good dermatologist can successfully reduce hair fall by conducting some tests beforehand that includes blood tests, iron level, vitamin B, thyroid function tests and a biopsy of the scalp. Since some hair loss is temporary, your hair will grow back on its own without medical treatment. More serious hair loss can be treated with creams, oral drugs and surgery. Dermatologist can give your head a fuller appearance with the help of hair transplants and scalp reductions, which is successful both in males and females. To determine the best technique for your hair loss issue, consult a good dermatologist.

Busting The Myths Surrounding Arthritis

Busting The Myths Surrounding Arthritis
Myths about and treatments for arthritis

Arthritis is a medical condition which causes stiffness and inflammation in the joints. It can be extremely painful and should be cared for on daily basis.

However there are many myths surrounding arthritis that need to be busted.

1. Myth: every knee pain is arthritis.
Truth: the condition in which joints pain a lot, it is assumed that every type of knee pain is arthritis and there is only one type of arthritis. From gout to virus caused arthritis, to autoimmune arthritis, there are numerous different types of arthritis.

2. Myth: stop exercising to avoid straining your knee.
Truth: with the joints paining a lot, a lot of patients believe that they cannot exercise any more. The truth is that there are specific low-impact workouts designed for people with arthritis so that staying fit is never a problem.

3. Myth: arthritis makes you immobile.
Truth: arthritis does change your life since it affects your joints. But remember, it doesn't make you a handicap. It is false to believe that nothing can be done about the disease.

4. Myth: diet has no impact on the disease.
Truth: since it is a joints related problem, many people believe that dietary changes are not required if you are suffering from arthritis. It is in fact crucial since those suffering from arthritis are at higher risk of being obese, and in turn getting heart diseases and type2 diabetes.

You must meet with a counselor and a doctor immediately to rule out any serious issue. Although these signs are not looking good. You must continue with the counseling for a long time and do not self-regulate your medication. If you respond well to the treatment, you should be well on yoru way to recovery due to your age and commitment. Please take your parents along and let them share whatever they remember about your early childhood.

I am gaining lots of weight so how can I lose my belly weight and overall body weight.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
I am gaining lots of weight so how can I lose my belly weight and overall body weight.
Hello, It's good to reduce weight at right time as many problems are directly related to overweight! Remember, there's no magic bullet for weight loss. The key to losing weight is burning more calories than you consume. Choose a variety of healthy foods — such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean sources of protein — and include physical activity in your daily routine. Go through the following guidelines and implement them in your routine: Management: 1: Drink plenty of water (at least 2-3 l/d) or other calorie-free beverages. 2: Be choosy about nighttime snacks. 3: Enjoy your favorite foods. 4: Have 6 meals per day - 3 main courses and 3 snack meals (snack meals should be healthy). 5: Do regular exercises daily (start with light and later may be little vigorous). Exercise decreases the stress hormone in your body, burns calories and also increases the blood circulation. Preferably brisk walking, swimming, cycling, skipping. 6: Eat seasonal fruits. Fruit helps to satisfy your sweet tooth thanks to its natural sugars, while fresh vegetables help you fill up more quickly. Fruits and vegetables contain fiber to help you feel full quickly. 7: Eat more whole grains and cut simple carbs. Whole wheat bread, oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, sweet potato, and brown rice are all excellent sources of energy and sources of nutrition. 8: Choose lean proteins instead of fatty ones. 9: Cut the salt from your diet. Eating more sodium causes your body to retain water, which can cause you to feel bloated and gain more weight. 10: Don't skip meals. When you skip meals, your body stops breaking down fat and starts breaking down muscle tissue. Muscle tissue burns more calories at rest than other tissues, so you're actually working against your goals 11: Eat at home. Going out to eat makes it too easy to cheat. Food sold at restaurants is commonly much higher in fat, sodium, and other weight-loss killers. 12: Give yourself a treat now and then. If you're attending a party or going out for a special occasion, allow yourself an indulgence. Just make sure that these indulgences don't become daily habits. 13: Go for a health walk. Gear up yourself daily for a health walk which not only shed off your extra calorie, but also reduces the stress levels. 14: Take small frequent breaks for a quick walk in between as sitting for long hours together encourages the accumulation of fat in the body! Medication: Take homoeopathic medicine - Schwabe's Phytolacca Berry tablets/ thrice daily 1/2 an hr before the meals for 3 months. Thereafter revert me back for further guidance. (Slow and steady weight loss is good. As we all know when you lose weight fast, it seems to jump right back on, where as when you lose weight steadily over time because of changes to your diet and balancing your hormones out it tends to stay off.) All the best!
