6 Foods That Help You Beat the Blues!

6 Foods That Help You Beat the Blues!

Depression is definitely something to do with the mind. However, it is important to realize that the brain does not work independently on its own. It still requires the energy that is supplied from the food that is consumed. It is also well known that most reactions in the brain are chemical reactions, be it happiness or sadness. The food that is consumed definitely has chemicals identified which can make the brain act in different ways. So, if the brain is feeling depressed, there are definitely some foods which can change that.

If you are someone who is feeling the blues and do not want to take a pill, try these happy foods which can definitely produce a change.

  1. Tomatoes: Bright red tomatoes look so good, they make you feel happy. However, they also contain lycopene, which is a phytonutrient that fights inflammation. Stress leads to constant inflammation in the body, and lycopene fights that. The smaller the tomato, the more benefit you have. The maximum benefit is from the skin, and so smaller ones are more useful with their better skin-to-fruit ratio.
  2. Bananas: Serotonin is one of the happy chemicals (neurotransmitter) that enhances mood. Bananas contain tryptophan which gets converted to serotonin in the body. No wonder that eating a banana makes one feel happy and carefree. If you have not observed, do so next time you eat a banana!
  3. Nuts: Some nuts can make you go nuts with laughter as they are rich in protein, a perfect snack, and refrain you from snacking on fried foods. What is lesser known is that they contain Omega-3 fatty acids which are proven to beat depression clinically. Vitamin E in them helps fight stress and inflammation, making it more beneficial.
  4. Oregano: This herb is full of health benefits. It contains caffeic acid and quercitin and rosmarinic acid, which are all proven to fight anxiety, fatigue, and sadness. What makes it more attractive is that is easy to grow, even in a pot on the kitchen window. Add it to your veggies and see your mood brighten up!!
  5. Chocolates: While biting into a chocolate leaves you grinning, there is a scientific reason for it. The bitter ones, especially, cause release of serotonin and anadamine, which make you feel happy and light. The darker the chocolate, more the happiness.
  6. Sweet potatoes: They are laden with carbohydrate and tryptophan, which as noted earlier helps fight depression. It also contains vitamin B6, a proven natural anti-depressant. Their rich content of magnesium and potassium also reduces stress.

Before reaching out for a pill to beat the blue, try these colorful food substances and see yourself feeling better and happy!

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

I regularly suffer from mouth ulcer from last 3 years after eating oily foods and stomach ache. Help me to cure.
Mouth ulcers mouth ulcers can vary is size, shape and number. Mouth ulcers are self limiting, which means they heal naturally by themselves. The medications are only to ease the pain and burning sensation during the course of the healing. Please do not self prescribe any medications as it might at times delay the healing of the ulcer. Please visit the dentist to know exactly the type of the ulcer and its treatment. To ease the pain you cud by a topical anaesthetic gel and apply it before eating anything spicy. Try to reduce the stress, avoid long exposure to sunlight, avoid carbonated drinks and citrus fruits and juices containing citric acid, avoid lemon with food and keep urself hydrated. Please visit the dentist for exact diagnosis and treatment. I hope I have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you need more clarification. God bless and good luck.

I am very slim. BT I want some mass on my body. What should I do. Any special diet plans.
Dear you can easily gain weight by following these best things - 1. To gain weight, your digestion should work properly. If you have any disease of digestive system you should treat disease first. For proper digestion - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after meal. Or take 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper (kali mirch), 1/ 2 tea spoon of jeera (cumin), 2-3 slice of ginger. Boil it in one glass of water for 2-3 minutes. Drink 5-10 teaspoons (15-20 ml) in morning and evening for strong digestive system. Or you can take amla powder 1 teaspoon with water for strong digestion. 2. Take a diet rich with proteins and fats. In morning, get up early and take awalk for 10-15 minutes and exercise light weight exercises for at least 30 minutes at home or gym. 4. For proper weight, proper sleep is very important. So you should sleep for 6-8 hours daily. 5. Avoid soft drinks, western fast food (burgers, french fries, pizza etc. They disturb your digestion. 6. My blood pressure level is normal level after taking medicine telvas3d (Half tablet) after dessication with local doc...
You have increased the dose of your medication still your blood pressure is not under control. Looking at your BP 150/95 and your age 38, both systolic and diastolic BP r high. Means both stress and cholesterol must be high which elevates systolic and diastolic BP respectively. So we have certain options for the treatment: 1, U can wait for few days more. In-between daily go for measurement of blood pressure. 2, U can do a diet along with the medication, which is a salt free cholesterol free diet. 3, U can do meditation and exercises along with the same medicine. 4, U can start homeopathic medicines and mother tinctures like lycopodium, rauvolfia and many more are there. U can consult us on Lybrate in private consultation. Following r the suggestions for food to be taken and avoided: Eating a diet that is rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products and skimps on saturated fat and cholesterol can lower your blood pressure by up to 14 mm Hg. This eating plan is known as the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet. It isn't easy to change your eating habits, but with these tips, you can adopt a healthy diet: Keep a food diary. Writing down what you eat, even for just a week, can shed surprising light on your true eating habits. Monitor what you eat, how much, when and why. Consider boosting potassium. Potassium can lessen the effects of sodium on blood pressure. The best source of potassium is food, such as fruits and vegetables, rather than supplements. Talk to your doctor about the potassium level that's best for you. Be a smart shopper. Read food labels when you shop and stick to your healthy-eating plan when you're dining out, too. Reduce sodium in your diet Even a small reduction in the sodium in your diet can reduce blood pressure by 2 to 8 mm Hg. The effect of sodium intake on blood pressure varies among groups of people. In general, limit sodium to less than 2,300 milligrams (mg) a day or less. However, a lower sodium intake — 1,500 mg a day or less — is appropriate for people with greater salt sensitivity, including: African-Americans Anyone age 51 or older Anyone diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes or chronic kidney disease To decrease sodium in your diet, consider these tips: Read food labels. If possible, choose low-sodium alternatives of the foods and beverages you normally buy. Eat fewer processed foods. Only a small amount of sodium occurs naturally in foods. Most sodium is added during processing. Don't add salt. Just 1 level teaspoon of salt has 2,300 mg of sodium. Use herbs or spices to add flavor to your food. Ease into it. If you don't feel you can drastically reduce the sodium in your diet suddenly, cut back gradually. Your palate will adjust over time. Limit the amount of alcohol you drink Alcohol can be both good and bad for your health. In small amounts, it can potentially lower your blood pressure by 2 to 4 mm Hg. But that protective effect is lost if you drink too much alcohol — generally more than one drink a day for women and for men older than age 65, or more than two a day for men age 65 and younger. One drink equals 12 ounces of beer, five ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. Drinking more than moderate amounts of alcohol can actually raise blood pressure by several points. It can also reduce the effectiveness of blood pressure medications. Reduce the cholesterol in your diet by reducing LDL rich oils and vegetable Ghee, add HDL by suffola sunflower olive oil etc and pure Ghee. Avoid dairy products and sweets. Drink double toned or cow milk only. Avoid curd yogurts papad achar extra [table]salt in general.
