Heart diseases in children:
It is a myth that heart diseases in children are incurable. 90% of congenital heart problems have treatment available. Complex heart diseases can be prevented by taking folic acid antenatally. Fetal echocardiography is the tool to diagnose heart diseases in children before birth.

High sugar levels during pregnancy does not necessarily lead to diabetes after the baby is born. It is a natural tendency for the body to produce more sugar to feed the baby. But ofcourse, you have to take care. To reduce weight, dependency on medication and to remain healthy, it is necessary for you to adopt a very healthy lifestyle that includes adequate exercise, diet, relaxation techniques and positive care for you baby. Do not aim for 55 kg. Aim to have a healthy, flexible and strong body and mind.

Dear, To control & maintain BP normal these are best methods to follow. • Do physical exercise like jogging, running or brisk walk for atleast 20-30 minutes. • Maintain your cholesterol level to normal & eat least amount of butter, cream or fatty things. • Eat less amount of pickle, salt and fast food as they contain high sodium levels. • Avoid drinking alcohol and smoking. • Take less amount of caffine containing coffee, tea or cold drinks because caffine causes increase BP. • Drink 8 to 10 glass of water daily • Take 6 to 8 hrs of sleep daily. Cardiomyopathy - Decoding the Types + Treatment

The heart muscle is the central pumping machine that ensures that blood flow throughout the body is maintained and all other organs have a regular supply. One of the conditions that can cause this organ to malfunction is cardiomyopathy, wherein the heart is unable to pump the blood to all parts of the body. This condition can even lead to heart failure and is something that needs to be addressed and diagnosed quickly.

Symptoms of Cardiomyopathy
Early stages of cardiomyopathy may be difficult to detect externally, although it may be slowly reducing your heart’s capacity. Symptoms that start showing in later stages may include:

  1. Constant fatigue, even without physical activity
  2. Fluid may build up and thus cause bloating within the body
  3. Persistent coughing while lying down
  4. You may have irregular heartbeats that may sometimes be quite rapid
  5. Due to the lack of blood supply, you may feel lightheaded, dizzy and might even cause you to faint
  6. Even the slightest of exertions will cause breathlessness and exhaustion and you may even feel this symptom while at rest
  7. Intermittent chest pain

Causes of Cardiomyopathy
Causes of this condition may vary from patient to patient, although certain common factors include:

  1. Genetic reasons where one or both parents are susceptible to this condition
  2. Metabolic problems such as obesity, diabetes or thyroid problems
  3. Substance abuse such as anabolic steroids, amphetamines cocaine or even the consumption of excessive alcohol
  4. High blood pressure for prolonged periods
  5. Nutritional deficiencies
  6. Side effects of drug treatments such as the use of certain chemicals in chemotherapy

Types of Cardiomyopathy
Cardiomyopathy has multiple types; depending on what causes them and also certain specific symptoms. These are:

  1. Restrictive cardiomyopathy
  2. Dilated cardiomyopathy
  3. Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia
  4. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  5. Unclassified cardiomyopathies

Treatment for cardiomyopathy
The treatment of these various forms of cardiomyopathy will vary depending on the type and also the stage and condition of the heart. Some of these treatments include:

  1. Medications
  2. Lifestyle changes
  3. Surgeries such as Septal myectomy, Septal ablation and Radiofrequency ablation
  4. Implantable devices such as Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator or ICD
  5. Ventricular assist devices
  6. Heart transplant in the worst case scenarios. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Homeopath.

Dear sir, if a person has a low blood pressure without experiencing any symptoms like dizziness, fainting etc. There is no problem. But if the same person takes stress, or anxiety or depression, can he get affected by cardiac arrest, heart problem, diabetes or dangerous health issue?

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
If the blood pressure is low and no symptoms, then it is fine. But if you have any such symptoms, the immediate response should be take sugar in any form. Either glucose water, electral powder, ORS, etc. Stress, anxiety or depression are the things which affect all the individuals and yes it can cause heart and other problems. Best to continue exercising, so that it can be avoided.

The toxins in cigarette smoke thickens your blood, triggers plaque buildup, makes it harder for your blood to carry oxygen and increases risk of blood cloting. Carbon monoxide replaces oxygen in your red blood cells, decreasing your energy.

To increase weight it's not important to eat a lot. It's important to eat healthy and maintain consistent metabolic rate. Maintain good metabolism by following this: 1 take fibrous fruits and vegetables 2 eat healthy stuffs. Quality is important than quantity. Take whole grains than refined ones, consume natural home cooked food than processed one, aerated drinks are a big no. Consume green leafy vegetables. Dairy products like cottage cheese, milk, curd, cheese in moderation 3 exercise is a must for increasing metabolism. Follow any of these remedies: 1 eat peanuts soaked in milk overnight in the morning before breakfast. 2 eat handful of raisins and green gram soaked in water overnight before breakfast. 3 consume cashews soaked in milk overnight in the morning.

My father went a heart By-Pass surgery in October 2006. He is doing well now and is 67. However, he has issues with climbing stairs even for one store and gets tired too easily. What are the medical measures he needs to carefully undertake in order to keep himself fit ? Also , is there a likelihood of another surgery 10 years after one surgery ?

There are other effective, safe and economical non-invasive, non-surgical options like Artery Clearance Therapy (ACT) / Chelation therapy and External Counter Pulsation (ECP/EECP) for patients unfit for heart bypass surgery or angioplasty stents, where these have failed, when there is recurrence after surgery or stents get blocked again and for patients who want to avoid surgery. MBBS, Dip.Cardiology, Fellowship in Clinical Cardiology(FICC), Fellowship in Echocardiology
Cardiologist, Ghaziabad
You've probably heard that high blood pressure is a problem. Sometimes blood pressure that is too low can also cause problems. Blood pressure is the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. Each time your heart beats, it pumps out blood into the arteries. Your blood pressure is highest when your heart beats, pumping the blood. This is called systolic pressure. When your heart is at rest, between beats, your blood pressure falls. This is the diastolic pressure. Your blood pressure reading uses these two numbers. Usually they're written one above or before the other, such as 120/80. If your blood pressure reading is 90/60 or lower, you have low blood pressure. Some people have low blood pressure all the time. They have no symptoms and their low readings are normal for them. In other people, blood pressure drops below normal because of a medical condition or certain medicines. Some people may have symptoms of low blood pressure when standing up too quickly. Low blood pressure is a problem only if it causes dizziness, fainting or in extreme cases, shock. Certain medicines and substances can lead to low blood pressure, including:     * Alcohol     * Anti-anxiety medicines     * Certain antidepressants     * Diuretics     * Heart medicines, including those used to treat high blood pressure and coronary heart disease     * Medicines used for surgery     * Painkillers Other causes of low blood pressure include:     * Nerve damage from diabetes     * Changes in heart rhythm (arrhythmias)     * Not drinking enough fluids (dehydration)     * Heart failure You can do a few things to prevent low blood pressure     * Drinking more fluids     * Getting up slowly after sitting or lying down     * Not drinking alcohol     * Not standing for a long time     * Using compression stockings so blood does not collect in the legs Get these test done to find cause of blood pressure problems tests include Thyroid functions, ECG, ECHO.

Back pain may be due to strain, sprain, weather change etc. *Avoid bending forward while working on lap top or for any other work. *Don’t sit continuously working on laptop etc. Get up periodically and move around. *Restrict bike driving as far as possible. *Don’t carry laptop or any load on your shoulder. Carrying very light loads equally with both hands is better *Sit straight so that back bone gets proper support. A dining chair is better than a laid back sofa. *You can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good *Soft bed will not give proper support to your back bone. Hard bed with thin mattress and thin pillow is better. *Get yourself tested whether you have spondylitis problem. Homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take Calc fluor 200--once daily in the morning and once in the evening and give feedback after 6 days.
