I am suffering from bone erosion on knee and much pain. What should I do to a well and pain free life?
Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Hi Doctor, I used to be a soccer player & regular gym goer. But from past 1 year I left both as I suffered from an injury (wrist fracture), the pain of which has still not gone completely. Moving on, recently few months back I decided to start with my soccer once again. But now whenever I step on to the pitch, I come up with some or the other muscle related injury/spasm. Also I am getting muscle spasm/pain even when I am sitting and do sudden activity. My water consumption is almost 2 litres per day. Day by day these small muscle injuries are making me feel weak & old. I am planning to start gaining again. But will that help or will make it worse? Also for your knowledge, nowadays I am spending my whole day sitting in office with very little level of body activity. Thanks. :)

Hello. First Good explanation. See as per your wrist fracture and pain till now. It happens. So don't worry. You should full movement only. Pain will go with slow pace sometimes. Muscle spasm. Do have appropriate water intake protein also. And also stop sitting for long times. Keep changing your posture. As per your previous history of gym. Re-start that ,if you don't have that time for gym. Try go for home exercise like Push-ups, sit-ups. Etc. Go through my page on Facebook-Pulse Physiotherapy Clinic. She might be having Raynouds phenomena, in which when a person comes in contact with cold water, hand becomes white. You can consult an Orthopaedician first. He may then refer you, if required, to neurophysician or Vascular Surgeon.

Dear lybrate-user, At age 70, the body recuperation declines, there is muscle mass and bone loss. Injections of calcium may help, but only if her digestion is able to take it and also, if she is consuming adequate fats, vitamins to ensure digestion of these injections. Change her diet to increase fresh vegetables and fruit. Avoid besan, brinjals, rajma etc from her diet that will cause further digestive strain. Give her mineral rich grains like ragi, jowari. Wheat (roti) is also very diffivult to digest. Give butter milk. Regards.

Hello lybrate user, pain in sole and heels is due to plantar fascitis, it is inflammatory swelling of plantar fascia (flat ligament which connect the heel bone to the toes, and supports the arch of feet) which ultimately causes pain, especially while standing and walking. it occurs due to weakening of ligament tissue due to over straining, using uncomfortable footware, high heels etc; Take homeopathic treatment for pain in heels. It's safe, natural and holistic way of treatment. natural homeopathic remedies strikes at the root of problem to ensure complete relief. In chronic cases, homeopathic medicine is selected on the basis of thorough details of patient like medical history, causes, temperament etc..; such well selected remedy gives complete cure without any side effects. Message back for proper online homeopathic consultation and treatment.

Know Everything About Head And Neck Pain!

Know Everything About Head And Neck Pain!

Movement of the head and neck is enabled by the various joints in this region, the main role being played by the cervical spine. This is a part of the vertebra or the spine and supports the head and neck in all movements. There are cervical vertebrae, ligaments, muscles, and nerves which ensure this movement happens smoothly. However, given the complexity of the whole structure, head and neck pain are also two of the most common joint pains.

The Neck Bone’s Connected to the Head Bone…

The vertebrae of your neck (cervical spine) support the weight of your head and all its motions, which may not seem like much – until you realize your head weighs as much as a bowling ball. When your neck bones are not positioned properly, the result is tightening of the muscles and irritation of the nerves that connect with your head. Your head and neck symptoms may include some or all of the following:

  1. Sharp or dull pain or discomfort in your neck
  2. Stiffness in your neck
  3. Inability to turn your head to one side
  4. Headache
  5. Shoulder pain
  6. Jaw pain

Fortunately, you don’t have to live with head and neck pain – and you don’t have to take drugs to eliminate the pain.

Causes:

The causes for head and neck pain can range from muscle strain to arthritis to pinched nerve to cancer.

  1. Posture problems: Not providing adequate support when being seated grows to be a menace. With the changing lifestyle where people end up staring at a monitor, there is tremendous stress on the neck muscles, leading to pain and stiffness. There is also loss of flexibility, leading to a stiff neck and headaches.
  2. Muscle strain: This can occur due to a sudden movement, either when doing something or as a result of accident (like a whiplash injury). The muscle can be torn or injured and this can result in pain, swelling, and inflammation of the affected area.
  3. Stress: One of the most common identifier of stress is the constant ache/nagging pain in the back of the neck.
  4. Disk herniation: When the disk is moved out of its space due to excessive movement and rotation, the disk gets herniated and the nerve gets ‘pinched.’ This can cause a sharp, shooting pain to the area where the nerve emerges out of that disk.

Spondylitis, arthritis, etc., are other chronic inflammatory conditions which can affect the neck and head areas.

Side effects:

When there is pain in the head and neck area, the whole body function is affected. The movement is limited and therefore vision, neck movements, and other functions are affected. This, in turn, affects the overall quality of life.

Management:

  1. Identify the problem with a thorough examination, X-ray, and if required soft tissue examination.
  2. Ice the area for relief of pain temporarily.
  3. Improve ergonomics in terms of height of the monitor, seat/chair, etc., so the strain is minimized.
  4. Develop an exercise regimen, which gives adequate exercise to the head and neck muscles.
  5. Manage stress. Be it physical, chemical, or emotional stress, it takes a toll on the head and neck area. Managing the stress (there is no escape from it!) will definitely see the pains and stiff neck go away.
  6. Engage in pain management, which is holistic (as above) and does not always resort to medications.

Could be possible to do deadlift workout if I have scoliosis problem is about 20.25 degrees curve?
Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, dead lifts are usually not recommended for any pre-existing spinal condition. This exercise puts abnormal stress on your thoracolumbar spine. However you should do back and core strengthening exercises like pilates. Regards.
