Please advise prevention for cold cough when seasonal change or cure and care when exposed.
Viruses cling to your bare hands, so don't use them to muffle your coughs and sneezes. When you feel one coming, use a tissue, then throw it away. If you don't have one with you, cough or sneeze into the inside of your elbow. Cold and flu viruses enter your body through your eyes, nose, and mouth. 1.Moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, for 45 minutes a day, five days a week can reduce risk of a cold by a third. 2.Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits that offer antioxidants. Try to get eight or seven hours of sleep a night. 3.Use warm water and a good helping of soap. Plain soap is fine, because it’s the act of rubbing the hands together for at least 20 seconds that is going to eliminate germs. Don’t forget to clean under the nails, between the fingers, and wash your wrists as well. In public bathrooms, use a paper towel to turn off the facet, another one to dry your hands, and throw them away.

Hello sir/mam, I have sinusitis problem. Polyps in my left nostril since last 2.5 years i.e 2015. Treatments: (1) Allopathy for 2 year (2) Homeopathy for 2-3 months (3) Ayurveda patanjali for 6 months+was doing jal neti+sutraneti but it was causing more irritation (4) At present Ayurveda but different doctor. Please recommend is there any chance of reducing polyps or should I go for only preventing infection. Plus which way should I go. Kindly reply asap.

BHMS
Homeopath, Chennai
The ENT surgeons usually recommend getting them removed surgically as Allopathic system of medicine has no medicinal treatment for nasal polyps. Our experience is that these nasal polyps are easily treatable and there is no need to get these nasal polyps removed surgically. Homeopathy is very effective in dealing with these little growths. Not only are the symptoms removed, the growths themselves vanish over a period of time. Homeopathy is uniquely placed as it takes into account not only the symptoms, but also the causes of the problem. Some causes are at times obvious. Others may not be obvious and are subtle. These may be the stress factors that the person had been undergoing before the problem surfaced You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance and permanent cure without any side effects.

My wife has been coughing for the last more than two weeks, dry , have tested TB,Hiv all negative. She is not allergic and also have any other ailments. Her wt.remains static at 62 kgs. Ht. 5ft 5 inch age 44. Is it acid reflux? kindly advice .

FCCP (USA), MD - Pulmonary Medicine
Pulmonologist, Indore
Acid reflux can cause cough but will have additional symptoms of burning sensation in upper abdomen and chest. If this occurred after cold then it is post viral syndrome and needs inhaled medication. Other possibilities to be ruled out is atypical pneumonia, asthma, post nasal drip, any cardiac problem etc. Please visit chest specialist for proper diagnosis. Best wishes

Hi. I understand your concerns. It is not a specific finding. It depends on your symptoms. If you have long term cough, running nose, sneezing etc. You will need to undergo pulmonary function test which is needed for diagnosis and also to assess severity of asthma based on which treatemnt can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.

Does day care, preschool, etc. Have an effect on children developing allergies or asthma?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello. It depends upon the immune system of a child. There are many children in day care centre or preschool, but as children often have low immunity, they do get contracted to any infection once get exposed to that environment. So, diet and lifestyle plays an important role in building the immunity against any infection! Give your child a healthy food (green vegetables, fruits, nuts sp. walnut, almonds, give flaxseeds), increase intake of calcium which is in milk, milk products (strong bones makes the body strong), avoid giving junk food as they lowers the immunity, let the child play, keep the child happy (a happy child has more of so-called 'happy hormones') child should sleep 12-14hours a day (sleep rejuvenates and repairs the system).

Sir/Madam, I have TB and effusion in my lungs, would my family members be infected if they drink water in my glass or...
It is best to avoid close contact with others while your sputum report is positive. This is the way tb spreads, through micro droplets coming out of your mouth and nose when you cough, sneeze or talk. Your family members are not discriminating, they are only taking precautions. You would do the same in their place. You can wear a mask also, a proper disposable one, but change it regularly and dispose it safely. If you wear a scarf or a hand kerchief then it's not effective.

The lining in the throat is filled with tiny hair like structures called cilia. Cilia are tiny hair-like organelles that reside on the surface of cells. There are two types of cilia: motile and non-motile. The former continuously move in a wave-like fashion in a single direction, while the latter function as sensory organs that respond to stimulus. The most common reason to suffer damaged or paralyzed cilia, however, is smoking. Normally, healthy ones in the bronchial tubes work in sync with specialized cells that produce mucous to capture and remove impurities from the lungs. Smokers, on the other hand, are subjected to about 7,000 toxic chemicals in cigarette smoke, including arsenic, methane, and carbon monoxide. This damages the organelles, and dirt, environmental pollutants, and toxins from cigarette smoke remain in the lungs. Furthermore, these toxins migrate from the lungs via the bloodstream to other organs. In response to the presence of excess irritants, mucous cells in the lungs become stimulated to produce more mucous than they normally would. Of course, with damaged cilia, the lungs have no means of moving the mucous out. This usually results in an unproductive cough. In fact, the damage caused by smoking leaves the smoker at significantly higher risk for frequent respiratory infections, or chronic bronchitis. Continued smoking may eventually lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema) or lung cancer. In fact, smoking eventually destroys the cilia, which may then be displaced by an excessive number of basal cells or squamous cells. Over time, these cells may become cancerous. They may also become rogue, escaping through lung tissue and invading other parts of the body. The tobacco tar in cigarette smoke lines your lung with huge patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself.
