Pacemaker For Heart Failure And Its Implications

Pacemaker For Heart Failure And Its Implications

The treatment of heart disease has come a long way and one of the more important and fairly common devices used to correct rhythmic problems of the heart is a pacemaker. A pacemaker is a device which is put inside the chest or sometimes even the abdomen to send electrical pulses to the heart to keep it beating at a normal rate.

Pacemaker for heart failure

However, the implications in case of heart failure make the usage of the pacemaker much more complicated. In such cases, the device used is a special type of pacemaker which is also called a bi-ventricular pacemaker. This device sends electrical signals to pump the ventricles of the heart so that they can pump at the same time.

There are many factors to be aware of before undergoing this treatment. Some of the factors to consider are mentioned below.

  • Requirement for a pacemaker in case of heart failure - When a patient has heart failure, their ventricles or lower chambers of the heart aren't able to pump enough blood into it. This could be due to physical problems with the heart or problems with the electrical system within it which cannot function normally. The doctor will perform multiple tests to determine whether a patient is the right candidate for a pacemaker for heart failure.
  • The procedure - In most cases the device is fitted into the chest and it is done without an open heart surgery. Precautions and post operative care for a minor surgery should be followed. The doctor makes a minor incision on the chest and then inserts the device along with three leads which are connected to the ventricles to ensure they keep pumping properly. Sometimes another device known as the ICD or the implantable cardioverter-defibrillator may be put in to shock the heart back to a normal rhythm in extreme cases where the change of sudden death from high heart rate is a possibility.
  • Immediate post operative care - As mentioned above, the surgery involved in putting a pacemaker is a minor one and the patient is usually discharged in next 2-3 days or may be more depending on the comorbidities & complexity of the scenario. However, in most cases, people can go home the next day fairly easily although some monitoring is done for the next few days with daily reporting.

I have been suffering with multiple issues since 3 months. Burping chest pain and frequent defecation. Have undergone ECG ECHO and holtermonitor tests. All turned normal and doctor confirmed as gerd. But I am more worried with left side chest pain. Since unable to convince myself with hearttests done and wants to check how much percentage of heartissues could be ruled out by these tests. Are still more in depth analysis has to be done for heart issues, if yes what are those. Please help me to get a clarity on whether it is heart or gastric issue.

One thing you should keep in mind that heart pain generally don't last for so long or days, it comes suddenly or gradually and will subside by medications or it will turn into heart attack but will not last for long, chest pain have some reason like bone Pai, cartilage pain, muscular spasm etc, all the possible heart tests have been done and they are normal so don't worry about your heart, let the heart be happy, for gerd you need proper homoeopathic treatment, by proper homoeopathic treatment it is curable.

I'm 29. I've a sedentary lifestyle, I'm over weight 97 kg for 167 cm, I'd sudden sharp Pain in my left chest occur often (not very often), I just had the pain it lasts only 2 seconds I feel like its traveling from under the rib cage to left upper chest. I couldn't bear the pain but it only lasts less than or exactly 2 seconds. Is that symptom of heart attack? Do I need to visit a doctor? Or like some people say it's gas please guide me and tell me what to do.(note: I also think this sudden sharp Pain occurs due to physical exercise yesterday I did punching bag workout for 10 minutes and exercise cycle for 5 minutes, I'd a sudden sharp Pain inside my ear after I finished my workout. Both problems connected to one factor or both different)

Dear lybrate-user It is good you are taking up exercises. But the choice of workout does not suite you. Walk for 45 mins on a gentle slope. Sharp pain in chest can be gas no doubt. Pain in ear is also related to gas sometimes but not always. It is more a pressure pain from sudden exertion. Regards.

This certainly needs a look by your family doctor. This mostly is flu. Try first plain crocin tablets for 1-2 days. If there is no relief then see a doctor.

it is good to know that you get anxious very soon and this is the reason of tachycardia. this pulse is resting or after exercise ? may be you are leading a sedentary lifestyle , in athletic personalities the pulse is on lower side. you have to go by associated symptoms , write back if you have any , otherwise you do not have be get anxious about it.

Walking for 1 km is so much. However if you exhaust easily after small work and palpitation occurs it may be due to anemia or some heart trouble may be there. Consult to nearby doctor. Take healthy and nutritious food. Take glucose water three to four times in a day. Take homeopathic five phos tablets, 4 tablet, 6 times daily.
