Before you decide to start medicine I would suggest you to try following thing for stress management. In our current life style most of us are not equipped to deal with our mental and emotional processes. Due to constant out side pressure and expectations we doubt and question our abilities. Also in a age of super fast life we lean towards instant results, which at times are not possible. This again increase our stress level. The best way to deal with this is to build our resilience and learn to manage our strees level. Once you are able to manage your stress, your self confideance and your self esteem both will increase and you will be able to make better decisions and accomplish lot in life. Try following on a regular basis and in 2 to 4 weeks you will see some positive changes in your life. Stress is a by product of our modern life style. Due to chronic stress you have a negative chain of thought repeating in your mind. The wonderful new is that our mind could be wired to switch back to positive things and resilience building. When things does not happen as we wish or people do not behave as we expect that is when out of disappointment, frustration, loneliness, anger, sadness. Etc we react and our mind starts thinking negative thoughts. Changing this pattern of responding to stressful situation requires both persistence and patience. Also you will only be able to work on this out of love and kindness towards you. Strong motivation will go a long way. Writing a statement about how would you want to respond in a similar situation and how will your life and your happiness will change if you do learn to manage your stress and how to respond to it. Once that is clear. Try following things to learn relaxation response which leads to better coping mechanism on a daily basis. To begin with doing guided progressive muscular relaxation before sleeping will help you relax. You could google and download an audio file. I would also suggest you to take a multiple small break to take 3 nice and deep breath while keeping your eyes closed. You could do this while sitting or standing or while even walking or climbing stairs (keep your eyes open in that case). When you take a nice and deep break there is actual physiological change in your body. This will help you to activate parasympathetic nervous system which promotes relaxation and helps you calm down and think more clearly. This will also actually improve your performance in your work. Along with this exercise is one of the best way to relive stress and stay fit. Engage in any kind of physical activity at least 4 times a week. This also helps in stress reduction. Along with this some relaxation exercises as well as engaging in joyful activities such as music, singing, dancing, reading, being in nature, gardening, talking with friends or anything which you enjoy will help reducing stress and rejuvenation of your mind and body. Have good routine for sleep and eating. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Along with this also increase consumption of raw vegetables in the form of salad in both the meals of your day. Hope this helps, wishing you very best,

I need to work on my memory retention power badly. There is a lot of brainpower I have lost in recent 4 years due to emotional stress and breakdowns. My career demands focus, concentration, memory retention. Is this psycho related? Can there be a timely cure to this? If yes, then what?

Hi, Deep breathing helps to increase your blood flow and oxygen levels, which in turn help your brain to function better. Doing 10-15 minutes of deep breathing each day can help in the long run, but especially doing some deep breathing before and during your studying (and even while you're taking your exam) not only helps keep oxygen and blood flow helping your brain, but it also keeps your anxiety levels down, also helping your brain function better. When you're breathing make sure that you breathe into the bottom of your lungs. Think of it like a balloon expanding, first your belly, then your chest, then your neck. When you let the breath go, it will go in the opposite direction, neck, chest, then belly. Take a break. A good way to help your brain charged up is to take a break. This can either mean cruising the Internet for 15 minutes, or switching to something else for a while, as a change of pace for your brain. It's also a good idea to spend no more than an hour on something before switching to something else for a while. If you haven't finished that something in an hour, set aside time later to work on it some more Eat brain-boosting food. There are lots of different foods that can help boost your brainpower. Conversely, some foods — foods high in sugar and refined carbohydrates" junk food" and soda — dull brain processes and make you foggy and sluggish. Try foods that are high in omega-3 fatty acids like walnuts and salmon (although eat this sparingly because of the possibility of a higher mercury content), ground flaxseed, winter squash, kidney and pinto beans, spinach, broccoli, pumpkin seeds, and soybeans. Omega-3 fatty acids improve blood circulation, and boost the function of neurotransmitters, which help your brain process and think. Get enough exercise. Physical exercise can do things like enhance the oxygen flow to your brain, which will help it better process and function. It also releases chemicals that enhance your overall mood, as well as protect your brain cells. Scientists have found that exercising actually helps spark the production of more neurons in the brain.[4] Dance and martial arts are especially good ways to boost your brainpower, because they stimulate a wide variety of brain systems, including organization, coordination, planning, and judgement. You're having to move your body (and various parts of it, too) in synch with the music. Learn to meditate. Meditation, especially mindfulness meditation, can help to retrain the brain to work better and to not go down certain negative neuro-pathways. Meditation both reduces stress (which helps the brain function better), but it also increases memory, as well. Find a place to sit quietly, even if only for 15 minutes. Focus on your breathing. Say to yourself as you breathe" breathing in, breathing out. Whenever you find your mind wandering, gently draw it back to focusing on your breath. As you get better at meditating, notice what is going on around you, feel the sun on your face, notice the sound of the birds and the cars outside, smell your roommate's pasta lunch. Most importantly, get enough sleep and get organized.

I cannot believe that you can consume a full bottle of rum besides being a diabetic. There must be a printing mistake. Anyway you could be killing yourself and very fast at that. You definitely need rehabilitation immediately, where they will first take you through the detoxification process, to remove all the toxins related to alcohol. This will lighten the physical craving to a large extent and enable you to then do the follow up course of rehabilitation through the 12 Step program. If you have a family, they will be asked to attend some sessions both with you and independently, to facilitate their role during and after the recovery program. Besides the diabetic illness, other health parameters will need to be examined and treated. A psychological assessment is advised too. The rate of relapse is rather high but an alcoholic who has ?hit rock bottom? is ripe for intervention. If you are there, then your prognosis in your very first attempt at rehabilitation looks encouraging. This is a situation that cannot be treated without a residential setting for the best outcomes. This itself will be used by you to claim inability for various reasons and is part of the denial mechanism used by alcoholics. So do not show resistance to the proposals initiated by the recovery therapists, and just comply, for your own good and for that of others who are surely affected.

Everyone thinks differently and have different opinions. If you are feeling that generally people don't agree with you/ they should always agree with you, then irritation etc will occur. Talking without blaming, listening to others, putting your point across without expecting them to agree with you, can reduce friction to some extent. You also need to know how others perceive you as you see them wrong and talking bakwas all the time. What do you think of them when they argue with you? It is indeed difficult if there are fights all the time. What did you do differently, when you didn't fight once and there was harmony between you people. Humans need to live in harmonious surroundings to excel in life and have meaningful relationships. When you have peace within you, you will be happy, accepting and loving outside with people. A counsellor will help you to understand what are some of your issues and what values guide you through your life. It is a self discovery journey which is very beneficial in enhancing the quality of your relationships.

You must be under some stress. Meet with a counselor and do sort that out soon. In the meantime do some of these recommendations very faithfully: daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good nights sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called super brain yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hands thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

Dear user, I can understand. The best treatment is to have psychiatric help. Counseling and motivation therapy. For all these you should consult a psychiatric facility. You may request a psychologist to come home and treat your husband. Online counseling may also work sometimes. Take care.

Ayurveda is a proven ancient life science that has been curing long term and often, debilitating diseases with a focus on methods like Panchakarma (comprising of pre-Panchakarma treatments like snehan oiling of the body with medicated preparations and swedan medicated steam), oral herbal medications and other tweaks in one's lifestyle that can help in combating the symptoms and advent of diseases.

Shirodhara is one of the methods followed by Ayurveda, which is said to stimulate the pituitary gland or 'third eye' that focuses on pouring warm medicated oil or medicinal decoctions on a certain point on one's forehead for a focused form of therapy followed by a relaxing head massage.

Let us find out the various benefits of Shirodhara:

  1. Awakening: With this method of oil flow, it is said that the 'third eye' or the pituitary gland gets activated to a degree where awakening of the senses takes place in the true form of the term. Hormones secreted from the pituitary gland the master gland of the body, help control growth, blood pressure, certain functions of the sex organs, thyroid glands and metabolism as well as some aspects of pregnancy, childbirth, nursing, water and salt concentration and the kidneys, temperature regulation and pain relief. This encourages overall better health as the organs also respond and function in a better manner.
  2. Good for Nervous System: This treatment also helps in stimulating and relaxing the right nerves in the right way which restores the balance the Praan Vaayu . So, the cerebral system also works in a better manner and cognition thrives, leading to a good and healthy state of the nervous system.
  3. Mental Clarity: When there is clear headedness and a proper balance and flow of chemicals within the brain and the various parts of the body, then there is a better state of mental clarity that the patient can achieve. This can be done with the help of shirodhara as it activates the requisite glands which can produce a more favourable and balanced state of mind. As a consequence, the patient will find that the quality of concentration and productivity as far as various tasks are concerned, will also go up by leaps and bounds.
  4. Treats Hair Loss: This focussed treatment takes on the hair follicles as well, thanks to the concoction of herbs and oils which is allowed to flow on to the scalp. This can help in preventing and repairing hair loss and hair damage to a great extent due to the nourishment and prolonged treatment method with which the oil is allowed to penetrate deep into the scalp and provide good health to the roots.
  5. Improves Sleep: This form of oilation therapy is also known to help a person sleep better because the mental faculties work better during the day and this restores the natural rhythm of the body by night, when the right amount of fatigue is achieved thanks to the healing properties of this procedure.

Thus, Shirodhara is a wholesome treatment for the body, mind and soul. Practice Shirodhara on a regular basis for good overall health.

Dear, at your age, memory problems like amnesia are not common. Therefore, you don't need any medicine. Please do not self diagnose and self treat. Memory and mind power consists of understanding, storage and recollection of information you learn. Understanding depends on concentration. The more creative you are on doing tasks or reading, the more you understand. Storage and recollection depends on your understanding and how well you review what you have learned. Repetition and review of material learned and other tasks provides easy recollection. You can improve your concentration and total brain power with the help of green leafy vegetables, exercise, creative activities, number puzzles like sudoku etc. Hard work is the key to learning and recollection.

Before thinking about medicines try these Natural Depression Treatments Being depressed can make you feel helpless. But Along with therapy and sometimes medication, there's a lot you can do on your own to fight back. Changing your behaviour – your physical work, lifestyle, and even your way of thinking -- are all natural depression treatments .these tips can help you feel better -- starting right now. 1. Get in a routine. If you’re depressed, you need a routine depression can strip away the structure from your life. One day melts into the next. Setting a gentle daily schedule can help you get back on track. 2. When you're depressed, you may feel like you can't accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself. "Start very small,” "Make your goal something that you can succeed at, like doing the dishes every other day. As you start to feel better, you can add more challenging daily goals. 3. Exercise- It temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people. Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself in positive ways. How much exercise do you need? You don’t need to run marathons to get a benefit. Just walking a few times a week can help. 4. Eat healthy. There is no magic / special; diet that corrects depression. It's a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. Although nothing is definitive, there’s evidence that foods with omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish) and folic acid (such as spinach) could help ease depression. 5. Get enough sleep. Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep and can make depression worse. What can you do? Start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom -- no computer and no TV. In time, you may find your sleep improves. 6. Take on responsibilities. When you’re depressed, you may want to pull back from life and give up your responsibilities at home and at work. Staying involved and having daily responsibilities can work as a natural depression treatment. They ground you and give you a sense of accomplishment. If you're not up to full-time school or work, that’s fine. Think about part-time. If that seems like too much, consider volunteer work. 7. Challenge negative thoughts. In your fight against depression, a lot of the work is mental -- changing how you think. When you're depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. You might feel like no one likes you, but is there real evidence for that? You might feel like the most worthless person on the planet, but is that really likely? It takes practice, but in time you can beat back those negative thoughts before they get out of control. 8. Check with your doctor before using supplements. "There's promising evidence for certain supplements for depression, Those include fish oil, folic acid. Always check with your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you’re already taking medications 9. Do something new. When you’re depressed, you’re in a rut. Push yourself to do something different. Go to a museum. Pick up a used book and read it on a park bench. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Take a language class. "When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain, "Trying something new alters the levels of [the brain chemical] dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning. 10. Try to have fun. If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? "That's just a symptom of depression, You have to keep trying anyway. As strange as it might sound, you have to work at having fun. Plan things you used to enjoy, even if they feel like a chore. Keep going to the movies. Keep going out with friends for dinner. When you're depressed, you can lose the knack for enjoying life, you have to relearn how to do it. In time, fun things really will feel fun again.
