Myocardial bridging has nothing to do with your depression; it is due to hypothyroidism and loneliness. You have to utilize loneliness in purposeful way by favorite reading, writing, watching tv. Cooking, discussion, meditation etc. Ask your husband to give time as it is your right and his duty and if you request he will not deny.

I am 25 years old and feel totally detached from everything primarily because of a change in my lifestyle 3 years back where I have seen people very different than me. Since then I want to be like them. Rich, smart, confident, etc. But because of this I am losing my focus, interest, have become indecisive, have lost confidence even more. In a way, I have taken life for granted and I do not care about anything. My love life sucks, so does my work life.

Goal is misery. Psychological goals split you into two, what you are and what you want to be. There is great amount of unrest in this. If you wish to be rich, draw a line and work for it single pointedly and you will get there. The problem is so many desires at a time. Love life also may suck as there has to be what should be in the relationship. Remember life is always in present, not in future. So what you are is imp. Not what you ought to be. Take care.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. At your age memory problems like amnesia, dementia etc are not possible. I don't think you have any memory related problems. Still to be sure, I suggest you to undergo memory test online or offline. You may contact me after getting the result. Memory depends on three things. Understanding, retention and recollection. To understand better, you have to learn better, effectively. I suggest online educational counseling. Take care.

KEEPING DEPRESSION AT BAY

Hypnotherapist, DCS, BSIC, Advanced Trainee of Transactional Analysis, Advanced Skills in Counselling
Psychologist,
KEEPING DEPRESSION AT BAY

Depression robs people of their energy, ability to focus and pleasure. It makes them lose the joy of doing anything. In advanced cases, people may also lose their will to live. Depression is caused by factors that are mostly psychological, although a few can be physical. Certain habits and ways of living also lead to depression.

Here are few habits you can avoid-

1) LACK OF EXERCISE - Being inactive affects your state of mind and can lead to a feeling of being depressed. If you are inactive, you also become lazy or tend to eat more, due to lack of anything better to do. This may be even more depressing.
SOLUTION: Exercise ensures your physical and mental well-being. Whenever you feel depressed, remember to exercise. Even a 20 minute brisk walking makes your brain produce the 'feel-good' chemicals, which keeps you active and in high spirits. If this not possible then just use the stairs instead of the lift, or take a few rounds of your block at whatever pace you can do. Remember to be regular in your efforts.

2) IMPROPER DIET: Having regular foods which are loaded with hydrogenated fats, refined sugars and processed foods increase blood sugar levels suddenly and then dip suddenly. Our bodies and minds become lethargic with such foods. These chemicals affect the limbic brain( emotional centre) directly, making us feel blue, irritated and fatigued.
SOLUTION: Eating healthy is not only good for your body but also your brain. Food stuffs that contain omega-3 fats are referred to as brain foods and lack of such foods makes you vulnerable to depression. Eat crap and you feel like crap! Since our bodies cannot manufacture omega-3 fats, it has to be sourced from foods such as coldwater fish and seafood. Eating whole grains, fibre, vegetables, fruits rich in carbs and plenty of water Eat healthy for a healthy mind.

3) POOR SLEEPING HABITS - If you constantly deprive yourself of sleep or oversleep, you create a situation that risks depression. Not getting the recommended 7-9 hours of sleep leaves you irritable, agitated or hyper vigilant. A person who hasn't slept enough cannot perform daily functions properly and may feel frustrated or begin to feel trapped. A sense of loss of control makes one feel depressed. Most people don't understand that just getting enough sleep can help in keeping depression at bay.
SOLUTION: Sleeping well has a restorative and rejuvenative action on the body and mind. The body repairs itself while sleeping, dreams are a way of expelling unwanted thoughts and emotions, people develop higher immunity when they sleep well, you have better cognitive functions. You will make sound decisions with fewer errors, concentrating and focussing will be easier. Tasks will seem easier and effortless. A good sleep leaves people feeling energised, happier and alert.

4) ISOLATION - the experience of being separated from others—may result from being physically removed from others, as when a person lives in a remote area, or it can result from the perception of being removed from a community, such as when a person feels socially or emotionally isolated from others. Social isolation is distinct from the experience of solitude, which is simply the state of being alone, usually by choice. Taking time to be alone can be a healthy, rejuvenating experience that allows us to reconnect with our own needs, goals, beliefs, values, and feelings. But when a person experiences too much solitude or feels socially isolated from others, he or she may develop feelings of loneliness, social anxiety, helplessness, or depression, among others.
SOLUTION: Having an active social life with real and genuine people whom you gel with and have common interests is like an elixir of life. It infuses a person with a sense of wellbeing, safety, security and belonging, which is so necessary for us humans. It forms social support not only in good times but also in tough times when we need help, support, suggestions and encouragement. Man is a social animal. A shared smile, a nod, a wink, laughter or story can go on a long way to make you feel uplifted.

5) RUMINATING - Dwelling on negative thoughts each day, sets you up for depression. Constantly thinking of failure, loss, rejection or past events is harmful. Ruminating about something you cannot change not only makes you depressed but also drives you insane. It fosters feelings of helplessness, worthlessness and hopelessness, which are so common in depression.
SOLUTION:There are practical ways of fighting this problem, like keeping yourself busy and distracted, or just using an outlet to channel the feelings out of your system. Have a satisfying hobby to fill up your free time. Taking care of a pet, social work also helps people feel good about themselves. Use logic and rational reasoning to combat negative thinking patterns. Seeing meaning in a loss is very helpful too. Look at the positive and brighter side of each situation. Using humour to lighten some tough situations help keep the mental and emotional balance from tipping. Counselling helps people to understand more about their limiting thinking styles and beliefs and help create and develop empowering, optimistic and helpful styles of thinking which can help the person achieve more and lead a more meaningful and satisfying life.

I can not sleep , doctor told me I am in depression Please tell.
Dear lybrate-user, excessive thinking leads to stress. Stress is caused for head pain. So better to think too much for one aspect. Some problems will not solve immediately. It needs time. Up to that we should wait. Excessive thinking leads to so many problems. You are not in depression now. If you continue the same status there is a chance to get the depression. So it is in your hands. You want to be depression or not. So feel always flexible. In the world everyone has their own problems. So many suffer from their problems when compare to their problems your problems are very low. Think like that feel always happy. Do not go for medicine for small reasons it may be addiction. So feel comfortable. Enjoy the every movement of life in a positive manner. Ok best of luck.

By such behavior you are actually hurting yourself and causing damage to your own life. If you think and feel that others are not understanding you then you at least begin to understand yourself and by liking, loving and supporting self. Just take few deep breaths, understand that you can be cool and calm by understanding, accepting and forgiving others. If you can not do it yourself then connect a Relationship expert/Psychotherapist for an open interaction and loud thinking. With direct one to one contact of an expert, you will find right guidance and support. Either connect me or anyone nearby either online or in person.

While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

Hello sir. I have a query related to my mental issue. As doctors says I am suffering from ocd problem from last 2 yrs. There is no positive results are coming. There are 15 doctors treated me. And all are well experienced. So I am finally hopeless. Approx 14 hours I am sleeping in 24 hours. Because if I don't do this I just can't control my self. And there is no such thoughts are coming in my mind which are related to ocd. But it is true my problem was started with an word like- I wanted to forgot something and for this I was started to many things. And finally I have gone in very deep. But at this time I am not doing something for this but my illusion-"i have problem" are not going. Please answer me that is it any mental issues of human being are there that can't be treat.

Hello sir. I have a query related to my mental issue. As doctors says I am suffering from ocd problem from last 2 yrs...
I am sure you are one the many people who have not combined medication with therapy. You absolutely need this and so you must return to medication and counseling. OCD can be easily explained away by too obvious a cause like you mention but it is more complicated. However, the bottom line of OCD is fear. Some deep-rooted fear that has not been handled properly is causing this reaction in you. Normally, when one type of medication does not work within 8 weeks, another is resorted to. Nothing is, therefore, hopeless unless you yourself give up. This si where counseling comes in very handy: it will help you stay motivated and keeps the desire going too. There may be some childhood trauma or setting where this fear has found itself and since it has not been resolved it will continue to plague you like this. Deal with the fear and you will have some relief, if not complete recovery.

My friend have a habbit of smoking. How to make him quit smoking. Is it possible to make a chain smoker a non smoker?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist,
Hello welcome here. I understand your concerns for your friend. Yes its possible to make chain smoker a nonsmoker. But the most important thing in this case is your friend's motivation to quit smoking. If the motivation is high, he can be helped to quit smoking. The withdrawal symptoms are managed by drugs like bupropion (prescription drug). Also, nicotine replacement therapies are available. These include chewing gums and patches. The patch is easy to use. It is just to be applied over a non-hairy area on body and helps in decreasing craving. If you have more queries concern me privately
