Dear lybrate-user, apart from mri brain get tested for prostate enlargement also by a rectal examination by a surgeon or ultra sound pelvis with full bladder and after emptying the bladder. In the meanwhile he needs treatment for his depression and delusion. Please write about all the drugs he is taking and fix up private video consultation with your father. In the meanwhile continue the tablets which are prescribed. Don't stop them.

I have a 13 years old daughter n a 9 years old son. Both fight a lot. N do not listen to me, I mean I have to bark at them like dogs if I want them to do something. For eg. Lessons or homework or not watching tv not playing games on my phone etc. At times I feel I am not a good mother. I am not able to handle my 2 kids. I am in great distress and feel very depressed at times. pls help!

I quite understand how difficult it must be to take care of two kids who are going for each other, hammer-and-tongs. In situations where there are sibling rivalries you have to be really careful to handle it without bias or at least appear to be so. Here are a few tips: be rational in any disputes; show that you care for both but more for the person who is right; reason out with both but expect the older one to be both considerate and understanding; teach the younger one obedience to the older one due to the age difference, if she is reasonable; sometimes you let them sort out their disputes by just monitoring the conversation; no violence is to be permitted, ever; no foul language also; settle disputes by yourself as early as possible and never tell them to wait till daddy comes home; do not punish them with physical beatings unless it calls for the same but it should be done with complete control over your own emotions and you need to be very careful what you say when you do so; do not compare the two with each other or with other people you know; and reward them when they are deserving with verbal or material forms of recognition. However much you show love to both of them equally (which is really not possible actually) both will claim that you love the other more. If they can justify that accusation, you must accept it and act accordingly. If they cannot justify it just ignore those comments. Never hesitate to apologize if you are wrong for any reason (they will really get overwhelmed by that). In terms of consequences (i like that term instead of punishments), use the following proven techniques: stick one or both in the corner of the room facing the corner and let them be there until they are ready to deal with the situation by giving you a very good explanation for their behavior; let them do a chore that is related to the crime; deprive them of tv, if they cannot agree amicably on a program with which you can help them initially; make them write a sentence several times that is meaningfully connected to the event; deprive them of chocolates, sweets etc. For a limited period of time and do specify that time; never give them unending consequences or undefined in terms of time or frequency; at the end of each such successful confrontation show them that you love them but do not do it from guilt, even if you feel really sorry for them; never, never, ever reject them whatever you do or say; and confront the behavior and not the person. Your daughter is in her early teens and will need special attention. She may display certain abnormal behaviors in which case, she is indicating that some unresolved childhood issues are surfacing seeking a resolution. Be there for her in a special way and if you know of any unresolved issues yourself do talk to her about it and help her out of it. If anything gets too serious, meet a professional counselor and work in league with them. Be in touch with their teachers and you will be surprised with how much more they know and how it is possible to work with them to help both your kids. But do not be a complainer to the teachers and in no way should you embarrass them in front of those faculties. Your disciplining is with motherly nurturing and do not hold that back for any reason. Involve the father where his role as a man is required and the kids will know that you both work together as parents for their welfare. There is so much more but space does not permit going into too much detail.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Love is blind. Your lover went abroad. Does this mean that the love broke? did you try to contact your love? if all the pathways are closed, then depression is normal. Don't worry. You will be alright within two weeks once you completely engage yourself in physical activities and outdoor games. I suggest online counselling. Take care.

Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If your friend ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support she need, she can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse?no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless she feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that she have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for her actions isn?t easy. But it?s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. She should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need take her and stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

Dear lybrate user, your friend is not falling in" love" it appears more like infatuation. He is getting distracted easily. Probably there is some trouble at his home. As a friend you can motivate him to have a dream and ask him to make a realistic and concrete plan to achieve his dream. Try to give him a lot of love and appreciation. He probably has low self esteem. Try to boost his confidence by showing him his strengths. At the same time please remember, that it is his life and he needs to take responsibility for his actions. You cannot make him love someone or you cannot stop him from loving someone. Understand your own limits. Take care.

I had a great academic career. But, after I completed my studies and entered into the professional world, I have been getting consecutive failures for the last four years now. Somehow, still I have summoned my strength. I have a dream and I am working hard to achieve it. But at times I loose my focus and the past experiences overcast my effort. How can I clear my mind and concentrate all through for my dream. I know I have the potential to achieve it. Just tell me, how can I be focused all through. I want to know the method by which I can clear my mind of the past experiences that I had and achieve my dream.

Hi in academics, alot is in your hands like how n when to study, how to score better etc but practical work scenarios are different as they require more of interpersonal skills. More flexibility is required to work efficiently and also ability to adjust accordingly. If there are past experiences that you are not able to make peace with then it must not have been resolved and hence you are still carrying the baggage. Look into the problem and see how you can solve it. If it requires you to talk to concerned people to resolve or needs to be let go, then do that. You can take help of a counsellor to figure out how to go about it and some amount of venting out will also help. With your counsellor, you will also be able to make strategies of how to approach your goal. Do not worry much, start with accepting the present moment to move ahead. And keep faith in yourself. All the best!

The word depressed is a common everyday word. Symptoms & 3 Common Causes Of Genophobia

MBBS
Sexologist, Delhi
Symptoms & 3 Common Causes Of Genophobia

Genophobia or coitophobia is the irrational psychological fear of intercourse. It is a type of a phobia and people suffering from it fill all or most of the criteria of specific phobia according to the ICD (The International Statistical Classification of Diseases). Genophobic people may be terrified of sexual intercourse or all acts involving sex. It is different from erotophobia in the sense erotophobia is the irrational fear of sexuality and not the act in itself.

Causes:

  1. The causes of genophobia may be attributed to different experiences and origins according to different psychological perspectives. According to the psychoanalytic perspective, genophobia may be caused by the rigid or extremely religious upbringing, which affected the development of ego, making the individual fear all acts that are sexual because it causes moral anxiety and a severe clash of the superego (ethical portion of one's personality)and i'd (primitive component of one's personality).
  2. According to the learning perspective, genophobia may develop due to an unpleasant sexual experience such as rape or molestation. Rape Trauma Syndrome leads the survivor to relive the trauma several times and develop apprehension. They may begin to fear sex eventually by relating it to the unpleasant experience, eventually leading to genophobia. It may also be caused if the individual observes sexual acts that are traumatizing in nature, in media or otherwise.
  3. It may also result from severe performance anxiety, especially for those who lack sexual experience and have abstained from sex for a prolonged period of time. There is also a chance that other phobias, such as the fear of diseases, especially STDs, may lead to a fear of sexual acts. Some people might relate sexual intercourse with acquiring diseases, thus leading to the development of genophobia.

Symptoms: Symptoms of genophobia include the fear of sexual intercourse and all acts within, breathlessness, nausea, dizziness, feeling sick and fear of losing control. All these symptoms take place in the context of sexual acts.

Treatment: Genophobia is treated like all other phobias. Therapeutic technique such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (a conversation centric therapy that focuses on how thoughts and beliefs can affect one's actions) is widely used in the treatment of genophobia along with medications. The therapeutic technique varies from patient to patient. For instance, the therapeutic technique used for a rape survivor would be completely different from that which is used for an individual with a fear of STDs. With proper treatment, genophobia is curable, eventually allowing the individual to have a particularly healthy sex life. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Sexologist.

How To Deal With Someone Who Is Suffering From Depression

How To Deal With Someone Who Is Suffering From Depression

Depression is an addictive state, which is hard to get rid of. Everybody who suffers from it encounters it in an unexpected way, yet we all agree that it can be a major well-being issue. It makes a person miserable, disappointed, restless or numb for long and tedious timeframes, and is debilitating, particularly when you can't demonstrate your feelings and worries to anybody. It can meddle with your productivity and can become a concern not only in workplaces, but also in social circles.

So here's how to deal with a friend or family member in a depressed state of mind:

  1. Never Say 'You're Too Much': When someone with depression is told "you're too much," particularly by somebody near them, it can send them spiralling into blame and nervousness and bitterness. Being encouraging and empowering is likewise useful.
  2. Try not to Shame People for Being Negative: Dejection changes the world into a scene of pessimism. Discouraged individuals don't just focus on the negatives, but they also disregard the positives.
  3. Do Understand That Depression Doesn't Mean "Trouble": Melancholy is a condition with an assortment of side effects like exhaustion, confused mind state and rest issues. These are all side effects of melancholy. Crabbiness is an exceptionally basic side effect, which once in a while is encountered by many individuals, and can lead to an expanded sensitivity. Normally, it's difficult to be sympathetic with someone who is behaving grumpily. But you need to make a conscious effort to still see the positive in depressed individuals and lead them to hope.
  4. Do Validate: Approval can help manage a depressed state, and can wean a friend or family member out of depression. Remember that someone with dejection is not living in the same universe as you. The laws that oversee your universe don't exist in theirs.

Depressed individuals require your understanding, your empathy, and your affection,  considerably more when they are having a troublesome day, week or month. It is hard, but possible. Discouraged individuals value a positive backing in particular.

Dear, memory and mind power consists of understanding, storage and recollection of information you learn. Understanding depends on concentration. The more creative you are on doing tasks or reading, the more you understand. Storage and recollection depends on your understanding and how well you review what you have learned. Repetition and review of material learned and other tasks provides easy recollection. You can improve your concentration and total brain power with the help of green leafy vegetables, exercise, creative activities, number puzzles like sudoku etc. Hard work is the key to learning and recollection. I can provide you more tips. Take care.

Homosexuality is a result of mutation of a gene called fruuit fly. You have got to accept what you are. There is no way you can change your sexual preference, you cannot force yourself to get attracted to females. You will be inviting life-long conflict if you force anything upon yourself or try to be what you are not if you are born with this orientation, you will only be attracted physically to guys. Know that and accept it!

I think your parents and peers are wrong if they do not have this information about what is going on internally. This is exactly what happens when you are depressed, mildly. If it becomes severe you may not be able to enjoy life like you are doing now. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation and you could stave off the severe depression later on: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

General Physician,
If you feel excessive sleep or tiredness/ head spinning or vertigo like feeling you have to make sure you have no anaemia or hypothyroidism by doing a blood CBC & TSH and inform me directly 10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. If you find answer helpful please click on “helpful” tab for knowing my efforts are useful.
