To increase. My brestmilk supply?
Now baby requires more than your milk. What ever milk you have that is sufficient to baby. By now, he must have started eating every thing suitable to him cooked at home and top milk. You may continue your feed up to 2 years of age.

Sir, my son is 3 years old, male, weight 15 KGS, height 3 ft. Giving him only normal food, and drinks pediasure. Pls doctor suggest some drinks and healthy food for his brain development. Someone said infantgrow A+ is very good for brain development. Pls help.

Your child is perfectly heathy for his age. There is no need to give commercial food or drink but freshly prepared home made cereals. Never ever go by tall claims of these baby food manufacturers. They are expensive and never ever better than home made preparation tailored to need test texture of food. Best wishes.

I have a 5 month old baby girl. I am feeding her with enfamil formula and cerelac . What else can I give her ? What can I do to increase breast milk?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
We advise only breast feeds up to six months, later onwards home diet mashed and made thin so that child is able to swallow. In your case instead of breast milk formula feed. For increasing breast secretions frequent breast feeding works best. In your case it is irrelevant. I don't prefer cerelac, certainly not before six months. Hope this helps.

Maintain temp chart without any medicine 4 times in a day at least for 4 days to ascertain nature of fever. If temp remains under 99.5 degree F and child is active, there is no need of worry otherwise consult pediatrician.

I have delivered preterm baby and he is not breast feeding I am feeding him similac 1 baby is 20 days now his weight is low what should I feed him should I change baby powder n as he is not breast feeding I want to stop my milk any medicine please advice as I need to get to work after 15 days.

PGPN, MD
Pediatrician, Vizianagaram
Most of the preterm babies loose 15% body weight and starts regain after 15 day. Expected wt gain is 20- 30 gms on dialy basis. What your feeding now is good. Instead of bottle feed, start spoon feeds. Look for dilution of milk, 1 scoop for every 30 ml of water. Do not stop breast milk.

At 13 months age only egg yolk and boiled one can be given and not egg white. One is enough. Cow’s milk can be added, not more than 1 cup.

Yes, you may add well cooked whole egg if there is no family history of allergy to egg. It is not necessary to add egg if you are not eggitarian.

My Daughter is 5 Year old. But She still bed wetting at night regularly. (4-5 times a week) We find difficult to manage it. Please Advise.

MBBS, FELLOWSHIP IN PAEDIATRICS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
As adults, when the bladder gets full, it sends a signal to the brain to wake up or you start dreaming about water or going to bathroom, and then you wake up, but for kids the signal isn't quite strong enough to get them awake which is why it is normal for children to wet the bed till age 6 or below. Therefore bed-wetting is a developmental issue and therefore the treatment is time, so for kids age 6 or under, they will most likely grow out of it. It becomes an issue when the child starts feeling bad about himself, when he starts to pull away from his friend because he is afraid that his friends will make fun of him. It makes matters worse when parents yell and scream at their children for bed wetting. Kids need reassurance and encouragement from parents. Children who continue to wet the bed beyond the age of 6 may not be producing enough ADH hormone at appropriate times or may not yet be attuned to their bodies' signals, or both. Behavioral changes too play a role in achieving dryness, he says. Try decreasing the amount that kids drink before bed. Parents should seek formal treatment between ages 6 and 7. There are bed wetting alarms available which are very effective on their own. But they take around 12 weeks to show the difference. If the problem is severe a pediatrician should be consulted for medication advice such as desmopressin which acts on kidneys to reduce the flow of urine. Another medication is imipramine which allows you to have better control of the bladder, affects the bladder musculature and may change sleep patterns, so kids wake up if they have to urinate. While this is cheaper than desmopressin it has more side effects on long term used. The bottom line is you should resort to medicines as last option first try reward therapy and beahvioral changes. More than 80% children at this age will grow out of it.

Of course cold things shall be avoided. Allergic problems have simple tactics to follow. If your baby is not comfortable with few things. Try to avoid it. Have proper hand hygiene and hygiene of oral cavity to avoid frequent infection. Tonsils and throat of babies are usually reactive to cold things and beverages so these precautions are needed till 8-10 years of age approximately. Regards.
