Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. Kindly consult a physician & dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Are you taking any medications for any other ailment? If so they could cause dry mouth .If so ask your physician for change of the drug. Avoid tobacco in all forms.Sip a lot of water throughout the day to keep wetting your mouth. Avoid oily, spicy, fatty foods, avoid alcohol.Brush your teeth twice daily with fluoride tooth paste, do regular dental flossing.

You should not brush immediately after meals.

Food contains carbohydrates which results in minute quantities of acid production. This acid weakens enamel temporarily for about 45 minutes after which enamel reminiralizes itself from saliva.
If we brush within 45 mins to 1 hr, we are brushing weakened enamel which will wear off more easily, gradually leading to enamel loss and sensitivity.
Hence it is advisable to brush either before meals or after an hour of having meals.

Keep smiling

Scaling and Polishing for Healthy Teeth

BDS, CDE Endo-Prostho, CDE - Cast Partial & Complete Dentures
Dentist, Pune
Scaling and Polishing for Healthy Teeth

What is scaling?
Over time, even with regular brushing and flossing, plaque (sticky, soft, bacteria infected layer) and tartar (calcium) deposits build up on your teeth. Scaling removes the tartar and plaque with specialised equipment. Scaling effectively cleans up your teeth by using ultrasound to loosen the tartar and then using tools to scrape it off from the surface of the tooth.

What is polishing?
Polishing is done to remove excess plaque and remove stains. Scaling is always followed by polishing. Polishing also smoothes and shines the teeth to prevent plaque from building up again. It is either done by foam or fluoride gel treatment to reduce the possibility of tooth decay and sensitivity.

Why are they done?
Scaling and polishing are not only done for cosmetic reasons; they are also done for overall oral health. Excessive plaque and tartar buildup will eventually lead to the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive and multiply. The ultimate purpose of polishing and scaling is to clean the surface of the teeth so that the bacteria cannot attach to them and cause serious oral problems (such as gum disease). Also, scaling and polishing offer far better cleaning of your teeth than everyday brushing and flossing.

However, scaling and polishing is not a curative treatment. If your teeth have been damaged by cavities or other oral diseases, you need medical attention.

In fact, professionally, this treatment is called prophylactic treatment; and the word ‘prophylactic’ comes from prophylaxis, which is Greek for ‘to prevent disease’. Thus scaling and polishing is more of a preventive measure than a cure.

Do they hurt?
This process is essentially painless. Most of the people who undergo this treatment usually have the following experiences:

  1. Tickling sensation
  2. Coolness from the water used to clean the mouth
  3. Pressure during the scraping process (The dentist uses specialised tools to “scrape” the tartar deposits off the tooth’s surface). If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

What is root canal treatment?

Post-Graduate Certificate in Oral Implantology (PGCOI), MDS - Periodontics
Dentist,
Root canal treatment is the removal of the tooth's pulp, a small, thread-like tissue in the center of the tooth. Once the damaged, diseased or dead pulp is removed, the remaining space is cleaned, shaped and filled. This procedure seals off the root canal. Years ago, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were removed. Today, root canal treatment saves many teeth that would otherwise be lost. The most common causes of pulp damage or death are: A cracked tooth A deep cavity An injury to a tooth, such as a severe knock to the tooth, either recent or in the past. Once the pulp is infected or dead, if left untreated, pus can build up at the root tip in the jawbone, forming an abscess. An abscess can destroy the bone surrounding the tooth and cause pain

I have broken my teeth by falling from bike what I have do now?

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist,
I have broken my teeth by falling from bike what I have do now?
First of all you have to get it confirmed at what level the teeth are broken, whether broken from the crown portion only or within the root. You need to get a x ray for the same to confirm. If broken from the crown only teeth can be saved but if broken beyond a certain level in root portion than they have to be removed and replaced with Implants or FPD.

I have cavity in my teeth and not shining so please give me better suggestion.

BDS (GOLD MEDALIST)
Dentist,
Hi go for an x-ray to know about the extent of the cavity. If it is superficial filling is the option. And if pulp is exposed then rct is the only option. So dont delay. For shining of teeth mix salt and tooth powder and clean up with it daily. Or mix lemon juice and baking soda, rub on stained surface repeat this once a week.
