All About Knee Replacement

Knee replacement is a surgery wherein an artificial joint is used to replace a diseased, damaged or worn out knee. This surgery is common among people who fall in the age group of 60-80, but recent trends seem to suggest that younger people are opting for this surgery as well. The lifetime of the artificial knee joint is around 20 years, provided the knee is well cared for.

Why do you need knee replacement?

Most common reason is “high grade osteoarthritis” due to wear and tear of the knee joint. The pre-hospital study of the Knee joint is mandatory and would decide what kind of Replacement is suitable to the patient. If there is diabetes or hypertension associated with this, then it should be controlled well before undergoing surgery. Hemoglobin of at least 10 gm% is required.

If the mobility in your knee joint is reduced leading to impaired functioning of the knee joint, then you might need a knee replacement surgery. You may experience pain while walking, sitting and, in some cases, resting as well.

Some of the common reasons why you may opt for this particular surgery are:

  1. Gout, where, small crystals are formed inside the joint.
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, wherein the immune system of the body attacks the body’s healthy tissues.
  3. Hemophilia, wherein, the blood ceases to clot normally.
  4. Injuries to the knee.
  5. Disorders that cause unusual bone growth (bone dysplasias).
  6. Death of bone in the knee joint following blood supply problems (avascular necrosis).
  7. Knee deformity with pain and loss of cartilage.
  8. Unusual growth of bones in the knee joint.

Knee replacement surgery is classified into:

  1. Partial Knee Replacement: In this surgery, only one part of the joint is replaced.
  2. Total Knee Replacement: Total knee replacement surgery involves replacement of both sides of the knee joint.

The usual hospital stay period is around 2-3 days after the surgery is completed. Initially, you will require the help of crutches to walk for at least 2 months. You may also be asked to do gentle knee strengthening exercises. It may take up to 3 months to recover completely from a knee replacement surgery. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an orthopedist.

I am 75 years old. Have developed almost continuous pain my legs below the know, including the soles of the feet. Pain increases in the night. Alopathic medicines give toxicity and stomach upsets. Avoid excess of salt, oil etc. In your diet. Avoid any kind of fast food, cold drinks, alcohol. Concentrate more on fibrous diet as well as light food items. acne is a common problem in teen. Almost everybody will get pimples during their teen years. First, don't try to self treat acne. Some popular nonprescription acne lotions, cleansers and other skin products can cause a serious reaction (rare), mostly it is normal to have acne in teenage. For pimples it's important to wash your face twice daily to remove impurities, dead skin cells, and extra oil from your skin's surface, avoid touching your face or propping your cheek or chin on your hands. Not only can you spread bacteria, you can also irritate the already inflamed facial skin. Never pick or pop pimples with your fingers, as it can lead to infection and scarring. A dietary therapy with the right medications for pimples can also help a lot. Kojic acid (a natural skin lightener derived from mushroom extract), arbutin (also called bearberry extract), and vitamin c (ascorbic acid) are great alternative ingredients to lighten scars left by acne. Don't use vitamin e on scars. You may have heard that applying vitamin e to a scar will help it heal faster. But according to a study, applying the nutrient directly onto a scar can actually hinder its healing. In the study, vitamin e either had no effect or made matters worse for 90% of the patients, and 33% who put vitamin e on the skin developed a contact dermatitis. Increasing the intake of omega-3 fatty acids through a diet significantly rich in fish and seafood results in lower rates of an inflammatory disease like acne. A low-glycemic-index diet also reduces acne risk. I being a both a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. I do not have genuine smile with teeth I have round circle face I have deep bite. I want "V" Shape face with good smile my friends smile are cute and me look hairfall at pics I can not even smile properly it looks weird and ugly with that round face so I need "V" Shape face cut my question is can I use braces for this though my some teeth are ups and down Can I use for that purpose also.

Hi, First of all every person has his or her own personality. So instead of trying to be like others cherrish your own. U might never know that the others would be wanting to be like u. Now, coming to your ques about your malalligned teeth. Yes you can get the treated through an orthotreatment where your doctor would corrwct the relation between your teeth. U woul deffinately find a change within your face profice after some time bt it would take some. At last as per your "v" shape face requirement you might have to undergo orthogonathic surgery or some cosmetic surgery abt whic you can be told abt only when you visit a dwntist who woukd take various radioghraphs of your profile and then plan the treatment accordi g to your needs. My last advice to you would be jst to go for the ortho treatment and then if you r not satisffied with the results then go for your "v" shape face wish. Regards.

it is possible that your lesion is not healing due to your infected throat you can try antibiotic mouth wash and gargle for relief of both

Best way to reduce fat is exercise and diet control. Take pranacharya medohar rasayn twice a day. Medohar guggul 2-2 twice a day. And pranacharya slim capsule 1-1 twice a day. Avoid junk food. Oily food. Fermented food. Alcohol consumption. Sugar. Milk products and sweets. Take oats and cereals more. And do pranayama early in the morning and walk for atleast 45 minutes a day. And do exercises. Dont sleep immediately after taking meal.

But we will have to make a diagnosis to get to the cause of it which can be either due to frontal sinusitis or due to migrane or due to refractive error of the eyes or due to other causes for which we have to investigate.
