How much calories required pregnant woman per day. Please shared the site chart also.

How much calories required pregnant woman per day. Please shared the site chart also.
For the first six months of your pregnancy (firstand second trimesters), you won't need to have more calories than you did before you became pregnant. That's about 2,000 calories a day.  However, during the last three months of your pregnancy (third trimester), you will need an extra 200 calories a day, making a total of about 2,200 calories a day.  Bear in mind that we're all different shapes and sizes, and some of us are more active than others. So any recommendation about the amount of calories you need when you're pregnant is based on averages.  The number of calories you need while you are pregnant depends on:your heightyour body mass index (BMI)how active you arehow effectively you burn calories However, you may need to adjust your calorie intake if you are expecting twins or more, or if before you were pregnant:your BMI was 19 or under (underweight)your BMI was 25 or over (overweight) midwife will record your weight at your first antenatal appointment. She can also tell you what a healthy weight gain in pregnancy would mean for you.  To help you to get your calorie increase right in your third trimester, each of these healthy choices has about 200 calories:A small, toasted pitta, filled with a tablespoon of reduced-fat hummus and grated carrot, followed by three dried apricots.A small bowl of muesli with semi-skimmed milk, and an apple. Two slices of wholegrain bread, with a tablespoon of cottage cheese.A low-fat yoghurt with six almonds. Two slices of malt loaf, without spread. Being pregnant may sometimes make youcrave fatty and sugary food. You shouldn't go hungry, but try to get the balance right. Giving in to the odd packet of crisps is fine. The rest of the time, try to have healthy snacks between meals.  These tips will help you to feel full, while keeping your calorie count under control:Eat breakfast every day. If you feel sick in the morning, try nibbling dry toast or crackers when you wake up. Ask your partner to bring you something before you get out of bed, and then eat the rest of your breakfast later in the morning.Help to control your appetite by eating high-fibre foods, drinking plenty of water, andtaking regular exercise. Eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.Keep healthy foods to hand. A fruit bowl filled with apples, bananas, peaches, oranges and grapes makes it easy to grab a healthy snack. Also try smoothies, a handful of dried fruit, a low-fat yoghurt, or a plain fruit bun.Have a small amount of protein, such as lean chicken, with each meal. Balanced meals help you to feel fuller for longer.

There could be some infection in the tubes, or previous surgery. And sometimes there is no reason why ectopic pregnancy takes place.

Hi, Revital tablet or musambi juice does not give rise to heavy menstrual bleeding. It may be due to DUB. Take tab. Ayapon 2tabs thrice a day and tab. Pradarantaka vati 1tab 3 times a day for 3-4 days. Avoid hot and spicy food. Take good rest.

I am an obese 40 year old female with pcos and borderline sugars. My thyroid profile is normal and I have thyromegaly or goiter. My endo suggested surgery as it may cause compression to my trachea. Isn't any way to avoid surgery and what caused this when my thyroid functions are normal. May I also know the approximate cost of this surgery.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Thyromegaly tends to occur due to either iodine deficiency or due to other causes like thyrotoxicosis and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. If pressure symptoms are there then surgery is the only option to relieve those. It would have been better if you had mentioned actual T3, T4 & TSH values. Also it is better to check Anti-TPO antibodies. Cost of surgery the specific hospital will only be able to give. Thanks. Thanks.

Know More About Osteoporosis!

Are you at high risk of developing a fracture in your spine or hip? read on to know more about osteoporosis.

There is another silently progressing, common disease other than diabetes and hypertension that can cause potentially serious risk to your health in old age. Osteoporosis meaning “porous bones” indicates a condition where your bones become more porous, thinner and weaker due to accelerated loss of bone or reduced bone formation or both. It is most evident in the vertebrae of spine, hip bones and in the wrists.

Thin and porous vertebrae fracture easily. They crumble on their own or due to minor stresses during daily activities like coughing, sneezing, bending forwards. These fractures can be painless and go unnoticed in multiple levels till the spine develops a forward bend and a noticeable loss of height. Or it can cause significant pain and disability, limitation in daily activities and increased dependence on others. A simple slip and fall at home can cause a fracture in the hip bones that can make the patient completely bed ridden. These situations commonly cause depression and general deterioration of health and leads to other risky complications in old age.

Though it is most common women after menopause, it also happens in men above age of 65 years and in those with certain risk factors like liver or kidney disease, thyroid or parathyroid disorders, and certain tumours. Smoking has been proven to cause osteoporosis. Long term steroid intake given for various conditions and medications given for seizure disorders also can cause osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis can be detected easily by a screening test called the dexa scan. Any one above the age of 50 years should consult an orthopaedic surgeon to know if they are at risk of osteoporosis and whether he/she needs a dexa scan. If the dexa scan reveals that you have osteoporosis, you must be evaluated by an orthopaedic surgeon and an endocrinologist to look for other treatable conditions that can cause osteoporosis. There are medications that are prescribed to strengthen the bones and reduce the risk of fractures in future. Diet rich in calcium and vitamin d and supplementary calcium and vitamin d medications are also an essential part of treatment.

Although the vertebral osteoporotic fractures commonly heal in a few weeks with bed rest and medications, some of them may not heal in time or cause severe pain and disability. These patients might need surgical intervention. Vertebroplasty is a procedure that involves injection of bone cement into the broken vertebra and can give immediate pain relief. Kyphoplasty is a similar procedure that can restore the height of the fractured vertebral body and reduce the forward stoop in the spine. Open surgery might be required sometimes if the collapsed vertebra causes a compression of the spinal cord or nerves in the spine. Osteoporotic hip fractures and wrist fractures often need surgical treatment for fixation.

Prevention of osteoporosis should begin in childhood. Growing bones accumulate calcium and the calcium in bones reaches a peak at around age of 26 to 30 years. After that age, there is a slow decline in the bone calcium, which accelerates in old age especially in women after menopause. So those who reach a lower peak of calcium in bones by the age of 30 are at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis in old age. This means that adequate intake of dietary calcium, vitamin d and adequate exercise from young age is very important to prevent osteoporosis.

Prevention of falls and resultant fractures in those who are osteoporotic is an important aspect of treatment. This needs modification of their living spaces to remove the risks of a slip and fall. Routine exercises and an active lifestyle load the bones and make them stronger and it is a must for all those with osteoporosis and those at risk of developing osteoporosis.

Ayurvedic medicines won't stop or cure your bleeding problem. You should be put on hormonal pills for 3-6 months to bring your menses normal, if your ultrasound report is normal. As you r overweight, you r likely to be suffering from hormonal issues, which can only be controlled with hormonal medicine.

Hello I'm asking for some help regarding cancer issues. How can we. Recognise cancer issues. My mom got breast cancer and now she getting so many problem. So how can she will be all right from breast cancer.

MBBS, DNB (Obstetrics and Gynecology), MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Delhi
breast cancer if diagnosed early is generally given radio/ chemotherapy to shrink the tumour followed by surgery to remove the breast and axillary lymph nodes. It has good survival chances if treated early. Regular self breast examination to look for a lump, pain, nipple discharge/ abnormality, skin puckering helps in quick diagnosis which should be followed by timely sonography or mammogram to detect the cancer in time.

My wife is a lactating mother and has given birth to a baby boy 3 months back. On 4th or 5th Nov we had unprotected sex and as a preventive measure she took i-pill. On 8th she had her 1st menstrual cycle started after delivery. On 12th we again had unprotected sex. Now we are concern. Please advise way forward and risk associated and what medicine to take.

DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy

She can still take unwanted 72 if it is within 3 days. However her periods will mess up because of so frequent intake of pills. If more than 3 days best to wait patiently for a month and do a pregnancy test if needed. Also use condoms for the remaining of this month.
