I have recently started with my job, 2 months back and in the starting I was stressed because of work so I wasn't able to sleep at nights but now from last 15 days I am not stressed because of work but still I am not able to have a relaxed sleep. The whole night, I keep working in my dreams, I mean I keep doing the same work which I do in office and when I wake up I do not remember much about it and I feel tired. I get up minimum 7-10 times at night to see the timing. I tried listening to meditation music before sleeping but nothing is helping.

You are definitely under some stress and it si probably related to your work. It may settle on its own over time. But not getting enough sleep is bad medicine. So I suggest you do some of the following even if you have tried some of them: The lack of sleep, i.e. Sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

The best thing you can do for him is to encourage him to seek help, and support him during the process. I suggest you consult a psychiatrist as two years is a long time for him to be like this. With the right medication and counseling, it is likely that he will be able to come out of it. Keep a close watch on him; if he begins to voice suicidal ideas or feels hopeless/worthless, take him to the psychiatrist immediately. Other than that, involve his family or friends who care about him to ensure he gets the appropriate treatment. Remain posted and aware of any changes in behavior.

Hi lybrate-user, Regular exercise is a powerful stress reliever—even though it may be the last thing you feel like doing. Aerobic exercise—activity that raises your heart rate and makes you sweat—is a hugely effective way to lift your mood, increase energy, sharpen focus, and relax both the mind and body. For best results, try to get at least 30 minutes of activity that elevates your heart rate and makes you break out into a sweat on most days. If it’s easier to fit into your schedule, break up the activity into two or three shorter segments. Low blood sugar can make you feel anxious and irritable, while eating too much can make you lethargic. Healthy eating can help you get through stressful work days. By eating small but frequent meals, you can help your body maintain an even level of blood sugar, keep your energy up, stay focused, and avoid mood swings. Do not smoke or drink alcohol. Practice deep breathing at night before sleeping. Breathe from abdomen and inhale from nose and exhale from mouth. Do not bring work stress at home. Wear loose clothes at night, have warm milk before sleeping.

I am suffering from a case of anxiety. I always keep checking that whether I am getting an erection or not. Most of the times I get erection thinking about sexual thoughts and watching any sort of erotic videos. But sometimes I can not get hard watching those specific videos and thinking about those erotic stuffs. Another thing is that whenever I masturbate my penis gets full hard and I get rock hard erections. But I have to stroke my penis constantly in those situations. Whenever I fail to achieve erection while about sexual stuffs I get into depression and I get stress out. Few weeks back I had a good sexual encounter with my girlfriend. I am getting worried very much when I can not get rock hard erections thinking about my sexual encounters. But most of the times I get hard erections. Another thing I am getting morning night erections and mornings erections most of the days. This problem is happening with me for the past 1 month. The main is that I always keep inspecting whether my penis is fine or not. Whether I am getting a solid erection or not. Most of the times I succeed but sometimes also fail. Whats my problem?

Dear Lybrate user, yours is not a problem at all. Sex is an emotion like happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, hate and even hunger, thurst etc. It should occur spontaneously. If I ask you at this moment to laugh in joy or get angry with someone or something without any apparent reason, can you do it? Sex should be felt, not to be thought, I mean if you keep on thinking and testing the erection it will lead you to a condition called psychogenic erectile dysfunction. Sometimes you get rock-hard erection means you and your penis are organically perfect. Stop testing at once. Divert your mind in other areas of your life. Everything will be ok. All the best.

Dear, panic attacks and anxiety disorder can be managed with the help of psychotherapy, meditation, exercise and life style changes. Please post a private question to me with every detail. I will help you. Take care. You must be able to distinguish between mental disease and mental disorder. Your problem is a mental disorder. Not a mental disease. Therefore no medicines are required. Mental disorder can be successfully treated with the help of awareness, meditation, psychotherapy techniques, life style changes etc. I think two or three counseling sessions and psycho therapy techniques should solve your problem. Let me know if you are willing to undergo counseling sessions and tailor made psycho therapy through mobile. Take care.

Get your wife's blood sugar levels, thyroid hormone levels, hemoglobin and blood pressure checked. Because, the abnormal level of such fluctuations in the body affects the behaviors and mood to some extent. Is she undergoing menopausal symptoms? I mean, is there any sudden changes in her menstrual cycle? if it is so, there may be a fluctuation in her female hormone levels, which can cause some odd behavior in some women. Was there any drastic change or psychological upset in her life recently? better you treat her as a child to give her emotional ventilation and emotional support. Let her talk about her problems as much as possible. Assure her you are always doing your level best to help her. Consult a psychiatrist who can help you come out of this problem. This is only a temporary problem which can be cured by an early professional intervention.

Dear lybrate user, now a days every other person is having high stress levels. The changing life style, nuclear families, pollution, very demanding jobs, dissatisfaction in relationships are the major causes of stress. It is advisable that you share your worries with someone you trust. By doing this you will lighten your burden and also might get a different perspective about the difficulties in your life. At the same time, do not take chest pain lightly. The pain may be because of stress or any other physical ailment. Please get yourself checked. Consult a doctor at the earliest. Take care.

If you cannot manage without alcohol, then you are pretty badly addicted to the stuff. You must explore why you need to drink. Are you covering up some deep rooted pain? Are you avoiding something that you are ashamed of or do not want to look at? Is there a deep issue that you are unable to deal with? And so on. If you think that you will find it very difficult, then admit yourself to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit yourself into a de-addiction center and stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving. Ultimately, it is your will power and the support that you receive from the medical fraternity and your close and dear ones. You must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ?cross addictions? i.e. another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide you on several measures and precautions you will need to take to stay with your resolve. Even after the rehabilitation you must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. Your family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. You cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to your drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. Your children will also have to attend meetings to work out their issues because of the father?s habit. In fact, they are all suffering from the Adult Children Of Alcoholics Syndrome (ACOAs), which in effect means that they are genetically predisposed to alcoholism or can have cross addiction problems and they will have similar traits of the abusing alcoholic but in a milder form. There are special support groups for them all over the world. Should they touch or indulge in alcohol or any addictive substances or behaviors, they could also become full-fledged addicts themselves. They will need the family?s written consent before willing to take him in this manner. Make a serious plan with the wife and children and whoever else?s support you can get and act on it fast.

You need to urgently meet a psychiatrist and counsellor. Remember that you are a valuable person with lots of potential for growth. Your life is precious and killing yourself will put an end to all the good things about you which will be such a waste of talent. In depression, you may not have thought through all the possible options, but believe me there are options which your counsellor will help you to recognise and your life will start improving and you will feel better again. Give yourself another chance and go to a counsellor and seek professional help. Suicide never solved any problems for anyone up till now, how will it solve yours? And what about the people who depend on you, care and worry for you. What will happen to them after you are gone?

You do not need to be 100% naked while having sex. Also it is not necessary to have sex in a lighted room. It can also be done in an abolute darkness too. You better have a good chat with your wife before going to bed. Just imagine yourselves as lovers and engage in foreplay activities, for example kissing, fondling, hugging etc. You will soon lose your shyness and hesitation and have best times in your love life.

Dear user. I can understand. Some anti anxiety and depression medicines are usually prescribed by doctors after or during medical therapy or surgical treatment. these are prescribed to avoid the ill effects of possible anxiety or depression. These prescription are normal and there is nothing to worry about that. Over and above, you will be asked to continue the dose for a period of 7 days or 15 days. then doctor will not compel you to continue it. Consult your doctor. Take care.

It feels like that especially in the first 21 days. But if you persevere you will succeed. Regarding medicines you will need to consult a doctor because it is given on prescription only. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.
