We’ve heard over and over again that weight loss is important in managing PCOS and that diet and exercise are more effective than medications in improving your PCOS symptoms 1. Eat organic food. Avoid junk. 2. Drink lots of water. 3. Exercise regularly. Brisk walking is a good idea to keep weight under control. 4. Visit nature places and spend time alone. 5. Take steps to calm your mind. Worrying about the problem can only make it worse – listen to music, read or spend time gardening. Butterfly Pose can be very helpful in PCOS. Don’t flap your legs too much; instead try holding the posture for long. 1. Even more helpful is SuptaBadhakonasana (Reclining Butterfly Pose), which works just like the Butterfly Pose, this time lying down. This is what makes it extremely relaxing. To enhance the experience, play some soft music and place cushions under your hip. For beginners, it is a good idea to use cushion support while doing this posture. 2. Bharadvajasana (Bharadvaja’s Twist) is a seated spinal twist that helps PCOS patients. 3. Chakki Chalanasana (moving the grinding wheel) is a very simple exercise with several benefits. It helps massage the liver, kidneys, pancreas, uterus and the reproductive organs. 4. Shavasana (Corpse Pose) is another useful posture to try. In PCOS, the more you relax, the better you feel and this posture will help you completely relax at the end of your yoga session. 5. Padma Sadhana practice is also considered very effective for PCOS patients. 6. Make sure you don’t hold the postures that put pressure on the abdomen (Bow Pose, Superman Pose, Cobra Pose and Boat Pose) for a long time. 7. A few rounds of Sun Salutation at a faster pace can be good for weight loss; however, it is a good idea to practice only a few slow rounds daily for more relaxation. Myself being a homoeopathic doctor will advisse you to take homoeapathic treatment along with your present treatment I have developed some very effective combination homoeopathic medicines for PCOD with very favourable ressultss.Have faith in Homoeopathy a these homoeopathic medicines are very safe and free from side effects.

U r protected for the whole month if you take the tablets regularly. If you miss 1 tablet during the cycle—Take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. Take the next tablet at the usual time. You may take 2 tablets in one day. Then continue your regular dosing schedule. If you miss 2 tablets in a row, Take 2 tablets on the day that you remember and 2 tablets the next day. Then continue taking 1 tablet a day. Also use another birth control method until you begin a new cycle.

Do You Sit All Day? 6 Things Then You Must Follow!

Do You Sit All Day? 6 Things Then You Must Follow!

Today ‘working’ usually implies sitting at a desk from morning to evening. While this may seem more comfortable than working in the fields, sitting at a desk can trigger a host of back problems. This is because sitting in the same position all day makes the spine bend forward and lowers the efficiency of the back muscles. Working at a desk not only strains your back, but also restricts your movements to typing on a keyboard and moving a mouse.

Once a back problem begins, it usually lasts a lifetime hence; here are a few tips to save your back.

  1. Get yourself a good chair: Your chair is crucial to your back’s health. Avoid the hard backed plastic chairs and pick a more flexible mesh backed office chair if you sit at the table for a long span of time. Ergonomic chairs may seem expensive, but are worth the expense in the long run.
  2. Stretch your muscles: Sitting in the same position all day, puts the muscles under stress and with time can constrict the muscles. Make it appoint to stand up every 30 minutes and stretch your back and sides. Also try rotating your hips and shoulders form time to time.
  3. Take a break: No matter how much work you have in front of you, take a break at the end of each hour. Taking even 2 minutes off out of 60 every hour can have a huge impact on your health. If you still feel guilty skip using the phone to connect with your colleague and walk over to their desks instead.
  4. Get a pedometer: Keeping a pedometer will help you track the number of steps taken in a day. Ideally, a person should take 10,000 steps a day to stay healthy. If you sit at a desk for majority of the day, take every opportunity you can to up the count on your pedometer. Go for a walk around your office after lunch or park your car a little way off from the office to create opportunities to walk.
  5. Take the stairs: As far as possible avoid escalators and elevators. Instead climb stairs for a quick workout. If your office is on the 20th floor, walking up may not be feasible, but you could get off the elevator on the 18th floor and walk up the remaining two floors.
  6. Eat healthy: Lastly, pay attention to what you eat. Avoid eating at the office canteen or picking up a bite at the coffee shop and carry lunch from home. This ensures that you eat a balanced meal. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Physiotherapist.

Hello I am suffering with azoospermia and my wife is very well to conceive our age is 31 & 28 respectively. should we go for iui or ivf with donor sperm.

Pls read my last health tip on Lybrate on "low sperm count". In short, there are two options- 1. Try donor sperms for IUI 2. Get a medical check up to detect the cause of azoospermia. Depending on the cause, we can collect sperms from your body and impregnate your wife- by ICSI ( am modified IVF)

How do I know my girlfriend is a virgin? Her hymen didn't break when we had sex. And she didn't seem to enjoy it that much. She just had a blank expression on her face while I was entering her. How do I know if I was her first?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
How do I know my girlfriend is a virgin?
Her hymen didn't break when we had sex.
And she didn't seem to enjoy it that...
There is no way to test virginity. Some women have a loose stretchable hymen so while having first sex they may not have severe pain or bleding, even if they are virgins. So trust your wife to be a virgin and get over this hang up about'blank expression' etc. Most women do not enjoy the sex esp on the first time it is done. So do not go after her expression as her measure of her enjoyment. Fear. Pain and anxiety can prevent anyone from enjoying sexual feelings too.

I am married women 33 years old. And I have irregular period for 3 month no pregnancy what should I do. Please advise...
Treatment of irregular periods depends on the cause and your desire to have children in the future. Irregular periods can be caused by many different things. Changes in your body's level of the hormones estrogen and progesterone can disrupt the normal pattern of your period. That's why young girls going through puberty and women approaching menopause commonly have irregular periods. Other common causes of irregular periods include: ? Having an intrauterine device (IUD) ? Changing birth control pills or using certain medications ? Excessive exercise ? Polycystic ovary disease (PCOS) ? Pregnancy or breastfeeding ? Severe scarring (adhesions) of the lining of the uterus, a condition known as Asherman syndrome ? Stress ? Overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism ? Thickening of or polyps on the uterine lining ? Uterine fibroids Turmeric Being a warming herb, turmeric is also considered helpful in regulating menstruation and balancing hormones. Its emmenagogue properties help stimulate menstrual flow. Moreover, its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties relieve menstrual pain. ? Consume one-quarter teaspoon of turmeric with milk, honey or jaggery. Take it daily for several weeks or until you see improvement. ? You can also take turmeric in supplement form; consult your doctor for proper dosage.

I am 32 years old having hypothyroidism. Having 4 years old kid. Now we are planning for another baby. Recently DNC had done for me because of no heart beat. Present my TSH value is 5.using 75 mcg. How much dosage should I take now to decrease TSH value. Give me tips for getting healthy pregnancy next time. Height 5" weight 68 kgs.

Archanaji, Thanks for the query. If one is on treatment for hypothyroidism and if the thyroxine dose is adequate, then TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from any symptoms in a non pregnant woman. However, if conception is desired then TSH should be maintained <2 mU/L. Later during first trimester it should be 0.1 to 2.5 mU/L, 2nd trimester :0.3 to 3 U/L & 3rd trimester 0.3 to 3.1 mU/L. So present dose has to be increased by 25 mcg per day. Then check TSH after 6 weeks to see if desired level is reached. Thanks.

Trichomoniasis - Treatment Options and Prevention

Trichomoniasis - Treatment Options and Prevention

Trichomoniasis is one of the most commonly occurring sexually transmitted infections. It generally happens on account of having multiple sexual partners or not using condoms and other protective measures during sexual intercourse (vaginal or anal).

Trichomoniasis leads to a foul smelling vaginal discharge and other symptoms that include spotting/bleeding, painful urination, itching in the vaginal region, all of them resulting in painful sexual intercourse. The single- celled protozoa (pathogen) causing this infection is Trichomonas vaginalis.

Symptoms-

The most common symptoms among women are:

  1. vaginal discharge, which can be white, gray, yellow, or green, and usually frothy with an unpleasant smell
  2. vaginal spotting or bleeding
  3. genital burning or itching
  4. genital redness or swelling
  5. frequent urge to urinate
  6. pain during urination or sexual intercourse

The most common symptoms in men are:

  1. discharge from the urethra
  2. burning during urination or after ejaculation
  3. an urge to urinate frequently

Treatment Options for Trichomoniasis-

The treatment options for Trichomoniasis can be categorized as follows:

  1. Antibiotics such as ‘Tinidazole’ or metronidazole can be administered.

  2. It is advisable not to consume alcohol within the first 24 hours of being administered ‘metronidazole’ and the first 72 hours of being administered tinidazole as it can lead to severe vomiting and nausea.

  3. Metronidazole is strictly advised against during pregnancy as it can harm the baby.

How to Prevent Trichomoniasis?

The preventive measures include:

  1. Indulging in safe sex is the best way to prevent Trichomoniasis.

  2. Condoms should be used by both the male and the female partners during a sexual intercourse (anal or vaginal).

  3. Sharing sex toys is another big ‘NO’ as the carriers of various STDs may spread through their common usage.

  4. If a person has already been infected by Trichomoniasis then abstaining from sex is the safest option to prevent it from spreading. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

6 Early Morning Tricks to Kick-start Your Metabolism

6 Tricks to activate metabolism in the morning

Boosting your body's metabolism is largely related to burning calories and reducing weight. Try these effective methods esp. if you are overweight, if you are already lean, never over-do anything, be it exercise, eating or drinking.

6 ways that can help you improve your metabolism.

  1. Workout: Working out can be the easiest and best way of boosting your metabolism. Do walking, running and cycling. Sweating will tell you how much you have worked out and if you continue it for few months, the results will be favorable.
  2. Eat fresh fruits and salads: Don't starve yourself by not eating food properly. Avoid fatty and fried food but have as much fresh fruits and salad as you can. This will not make you put on weight. Keep taking fruits and salads at short intervals because these have an ability to get digested early as compared to fatty food.
  3. Take plenty of water: For increasing your metabolism, kick start your day with at least 3-4 glasses of water. It will help all your other efforts of reducing weight in sync. It will keep your body hydrated.
  4. Drink lemon in warm water and green tea: Waking up early can actually boost your metabolism; you can see the results after following this habit. Along with this, metabolism will get a boost if you get up half or one hour early. Leave the habit of taking normal tea, instead start taking green tea, it will not only be healthy but since it's an antioxidant, it will take care of your immune system as well.
  5. Lift weights: Lifting weights can give you instant results. Within a month of lifting weight you will experience boost in your metabolism. But this must be done under trainer's guidance.
  6. Eat boiled eggs and never skip breakfast: Having boiled eggs in the morning will fulfill your protein intake. Also, it will keep your stomach full for a longer time. On a way to boosting your metabolism, it's recommended not to skip breakfast at any cost.
