Lybrate-user, are you on treatment for hypothyroidism? if not then start it immediately, with thyroxine. Dose will depend upon body weight, t4 & tsh levels. Once adequate dose is taken all symptoms will be in check. Plus you also have to avoid soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, peanuts, mustard & coffee. Consume good deal of green vegetables, salads & fruits. Use whole grain flour for chapati & roti. Avoid bakery items and items made of maida. Exercise daily for at least 1 hour. If you have any doubts please come back. J.

Homeopathy treats the person as a whole. This means that homeopathic treatment focuses on the patient as a person, as well as his pathological condition. The Homeopathic thyroid treatment medicines are selected after a full individualizing examination and case-analysis, which includes the medical history of the patient, physical and mental constitution etc. A miasmatic tendency (predisposition/susceptibility) is also often taken into account for the treatment of chronic conditions. You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance and permanent cure without any side effects

Hi Since you are on treatment with thyroxine 125 mcg tablets, there is no need to do any separate testing. Just take iodinated salt. Since you already have hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland is not functioning optimally. So it hardly matters. All the needs of thyroxine are being met by supplement. You should ensure that TSH level is maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L. If that is not the case then dosage of thyroxine may have to be increased. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Your thyroid assay results show presence of severe hypothyroidism. This has to be treated and TSH levels should be brought down to 3 to 4 mU/L. If treatment is not initiated then there could be very severe consequences. Thanks.

My thyroid TSH is 12.93 how can I reduce it despite the fact that I am taking Eltroxin 150 mg everyday? Please Help.

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)
Endocrinologist, Delhi
The direct evidence for controlled hypothyroidism is a normal report of tsh which shows that it is within range. If the tsh is higher than the upper range then the dose will be increased and if the tsh is lower than the lower range then the dose will decreased. If the tsh is within range then you have controlled hypothyroid state and the dose will be carried on as such.

Hello Sir, It depends on how high your TSH is. If it is above 10 and your T4 and T3 are normal and you are having symptoms you may be asked to go on tablets. If TSH is between 5-10, you can wait and watch without taking tablets and will be asked to get repeat TSH and T4 levels done once every 3 months. If TSH is very high, say above 20 and T4 and T3 are low then you definitely need to be on tablets. Initially you would need to do the tests once every 3 months. Once the TSH comes to normal range and your thyroxine tablet dose is stabilised you can repeat the tests once every year. Eat a well balanced diet, reduce consumption of sweets, sugars and refined carbohydrates Increase your protein content - dairy products, dals, eggs, non-veg. You can take nuts, flax seeds. Eat plenty of vegetables. Hope this helps you Thank you.

Cow Urine Therapy for Thyroid

Cow Urine Therapy has been in practice for many health problems in India for centuries. In India, cow is a symbol of spirituality and cow urine is not only used in devotional practices, but also comes packed with a bunch of health benefits.

'Kamadhenu' is worshipped for thousands of years as the Goddess who fulfils desire. In Ayurveda, cow is considered as the mother of all entities as the products obtained from cow are beneficial to all mankind in many ways. The milk, urine, curd, ghee and dung obtained from cow are beneficial in different ways as food supplement and medicine. Cow urine or Gomutra destroys the poisonous effects of residues and makes body disease free. The medicinal usage of Panchgavya, especially cow urine is practiced in Ayurveda which is classified as complementary and alternative medicine.

The two Indian epics, Shushruta samhita and Charaka samhita, have described that the consumption of cow urine produces body warmth. In modern medical science, it has been well established that the thyroid hormones are responsible for producing body warmth. The oral administration of cow urine has thyroid stimulating effect and therapeutic value of urinary iodine present in the cow urine is immense. Cow urine or Gomutra contains iodine, which is easily absorbable from the gastrointestinal tract. The mean urinary iodine levels in dairy cows may vary from 79.2 to 94.8 micrograms of iodine per litre of urine depending upon their physiological conditions. Iodine is an essential element to produce thyroid hormones such as triiodothyronine and thyroxine. These are catabolic hormones that generate heat and cause body warmth. It has been proven that the cow urine contains iodine in required level for normal functioning of thyroid gland.

Urinary iodine concentration in cow urine varies depending upon its biological status and it could stimulate the patient's thyroid gland activity on oral administration of iodine. Thyroxine stimulates more oxygen utilization and heat production by many different cells of the body.

During iodine deficiency, the pituitary gland secretes enhanced amounts of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which causes compensatory adjustment. This leads in the production of more extensive secretory epithelium which in turn will result in enlargement of the thyroid gland and loss of colloid material in the thyroid follicles. In this scenario, exogenous supplementation of iodine brings back the normal thyroid status.

The administration of cow urine, which contain good levels of iodine, can keep the thyroid gland activity on a better footing. We now have the support of scientific validation for the experience of warming up of the human body after consumption of cow urine or Gomutra.
