Take diet for hypothyroidism:- high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread, nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in b vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. Flax oil, selenium: tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: this amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce t3 and t4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid few foods in hypothroidism i. E. Caffeine products tea, coffee, tabcco, alcohol / wine, kale, broccoli, spinach, mustard green, cabbage, turnip, millet, cassava, linseeds, pine nuts, soy products as soy milk, tofu, soybeans, soy souce, also avoid stress. I am 42 years old female and I have hypothyrodism. From last one month I am facing spotting which occurs after every 8 or 10 days. I am worried about it. What should I do?

Spotting is probably unconnected to hypothyroidism. Better to consult your gynecologist and get necessary treatment.

Hair fall, dandruff and tendency for gray hair are dependent on several factors. From stress anaemia to thyroid we have good treatment in homeopathy without causing any side effects. Homoeo medicines are given internally to restore healthy growth of hair and prevent hair fall. Precautions for care of your hair -take nutritious healthy high protin food -have regular vigorous physical exercise so that blood circulation reaches hair follicles and nourishes the hair. -avoid mental stress and smoking and such unhealthy habits. -use warm or cold water for bath and not very hot water. - hard water is harmful. Boiling and cooling will reduce hardness. - when the hair is wet, it is weaker and don't rub too much with towel. - use wide toothed comb so that there is no pulling pressure on the hair.

I am having thyroid problem. Taken madication for 1 year. I exercise daily on an elliptical trainer. My skin near hands became loose and seems flabby. Is there any solution to become thin? please suggest. Thank you.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
Internal Medicine Specialist, Faridabad
Flbby skin not due to thyroid. But although any one can develop flabby skin. After age 40, live in dry, cold or low humidity climates. And have a job that requires you to immerse your skin in water. And swim frequently in chlorinated pools. For prevention you can wash your hand with hot water or bath with hot water. Use lactic acid + urea cream to your hand.

Hi, It would have been useful if you mentioned the reasons why Thyronorm was not suiting you? Further you did not mention the results of your thyroid function tests. I feel that based on your symptoms your Thyroid function tests may be abnormal. The symptoms that you are describing are of hypothyroidism, so looks like the dose of Thyronorm was not sufficient. Plan: Please get your TSH, fT3 and fT4 done. See an endocrinologist who can prescribe alternative brands of the thyroxine hormone drug. Thank you.

Things To Know About Hyperthyroidism

MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS

Things To Know About Hyperthyroidism

The thyroid gland is an endocrine gland which is present in the neck and is formed of two interconnected lobes. The gland is located at the frontal portion of the neck and is responsible for secretion of thyroid hormones which affect metabolism, synthesis of protein and the overall development of a person. The thyroid is also responsible for the secretion of calcitonin which is responsible for calcium homeostasis (regulation of calcium levels).

The problems in the gland can range from goitre (enlargement of the thyroid gland) to cancerous growth in the gland.

Here are a few factors which cause Hyperthyroidism (over-production of thyroid hormones):

  1. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: This particular inflammatory disease is considered to be the biggest cause of hyperthyroidism. It can be genetic or caused due to certain types of bacteria and viruses.

  2. Radiation Therapies: The radiation therapies performed in and around the neck can affect the production of the thyroid hormone.

  3. Medications: Certain medicines contain lithium which can affect the thyroid gland and lead to this condition.

  4. Postpartum Hypothyroidism: Some women contract this condition post-pregnancy as their bodies start producing antibodies which go against the gland itself. This puts the foetus at risk.

  5. Pituitary Disorders: The pituitary gland might fail to produce enough thyroid-stimulating hormone which can result in the development of benign tumour, which can be a cause for hyperthyroidism.

Listed below are a few symptoms of hyperthyroidism:

  1. Sudden weight gain

  2. Increased blood cholesterol level

  3. Irregular menstruation

  4. Impaired memory

  5. Dry skin and puffiness in the face

  6. Slower heart rate

  7. Muscle aches

  8. Extreme fatigue

Listed below are a few treatments for people suffering from the malfunctioning of the thyroid gland:

  1. Conventional medication: Thyroid problems can usually be treated by using conventional medicines which aim at cleansing the system and restoring immune function. Certain medicines also balance the release of thyroid hormones.

  2. Increased intake of glutathione: Glutathione is a strong antioxidant which can fight Hashimoto’s condition as it boosts the immune system and helps in getting rid of inflammations. Certain food items help your body in producing glutathione. Foods such as peaches, avocados, broccoli and cabbage can help in replenishing the depleted glutathione levels in your body.

I have taken the blood test of thyroid and my T3 is 128. T4 is 8.3.TSH is 5.92 wht precaution I take should I taking medicine or still I control by proper diet every one say ki if you take medicine den till your life time you have to depend on medicine wht are the food I should avoid .wht are the food I take so tha it will remain remain normal or incotrol.

What causes Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and what is the best method of treatment? Can iodine help this condition?

MBBS, FCGP, DRM, FEBNM (Europe)
Nuclear Medicine Physician, Mumbai
Hashimoto?s thyroiditis is caused by an auto-immune process, whereby body?s own mechanism act against the thyroid cells. Analgesics can be used to get relief from pain. Iodine has no role in the management of this condition.

Sir I'm talking about thyroid. Is it curable or a lifetime disease. Since last year I am suffering form it and right now I am taking 125 much thyronorm .plz answer.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Hypothyroidism is a hormone deficiency disorder, where thyroid glland is not producing adequate quantity of thyroxine or nil. This is a very important hormone, required for development and day to day functioning of brain, plus involved in multiple metabolic functions in the body. Hence, has to be made available daily through thyroxine tablets for lifetime. So it is quite obvious that the treatment has to go on for whole life. There is absolutely no option. Thanks.

My cousin suffers from thyroid problem from past 1 year. please how to cure this one she is using tablets but no use.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Hi lybrate-user, If hypothyroidism is present, then only treatment option is taking Thyroxine tablets for lifetime. There is no cure. This is a hormone deficiency disorder. Thyroxine hormone produced by thyroid gland is needed for development and day to day functioning of brain, plus for every single vital metabolic reaction that takes place in the body. So it is needed every single day. Since in hypothyroidism there is deficiency of this hormone, it has to be supplemented daily for lifetime. There is no cure for it. Thanks.

When you know your thyroid gland is performing low you cannot get relief with slimming pills and there is no slimming pill as it is. Some people and companies advertise slimming pills but they are commercially motivated with draining of your hard earned money. Homoeopathic approach here is not to substitute with thyroid hormones but to study the cause of lowered thyroid and why it is occurring in you. The cause is with in ie. Altered immunity and it is determined by your genetic make up which has to be studied on consultation and a correct medicine is given to balance your immunity which makes your thyroid to function normally curing your condition.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
hypothyroidism is a deficiency disorder, where thyroid gland is not producing adequate amount of hormone thyroxine. Hence it is needed for day to day functioning of brain and almost all important metabolic reactions in the body. Therefore, in deficiency state it has to be supplied from outside daily. So there is no cure. Treatment has to continue for life time. Diet control and exercise will help in maintaining normal weight. Any exercise is good enough, brisk walking is the best and easy option.
