Hello. My mother is suffering from mental illness. I learnt that she is suffering from Schizophrenia. She is unable to judge between what is real and what Isn't. Its getting serious day by day. She is very rigid and is opposing to consult any doctor. I'm afraid that she does anything against herself if we forcefully take her to the doctor Please help me and suggest what to do? I'm looking for good medical treatment in Hyderabad. Thank you.

Most people who are unwell with serious illnesses like schizophrenia do not admit to their sickness. This is a difficult task to convince her but you can invite some therapists and even doctors to visit home, as friends and they can initiate the therapy in their own style. The other option is to visit the doctor and describe the behavioral symptoms and that person will prescribe the medication that can be mixed with her food without her knowledge. After that, she may become more amenable and may be willing to visit the doctor. Ideally, she must be under both kinds of therapy to get the maximum benefits. This is a lifelong condition but it can be treated to make the person functional and stabilized. Initially, there will some hiccups until the medication takes effect and the optimum dosage is identified. It is a long and arduous task but if you persevere and give her all the support, you will get some pleasant results. Please find someone in Hyderabad who is known to treat schizophrenia.

I'm depress about any unknown reason why this happen tell me some things to stop this.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I'm depress about any unknown reason why this happen tell me some things to stop this.
YOu can try the natural methods and if not helpful then you take antidepressant medicines. Natural Depression Treatments Being depressed can make you feel helpless. But Along with therapy and sometimes medication, there's a lot you can do on your own to fight back. Changing your behaviour – your physical work, lifestyle, and even your way of thinking -- are all natural depression treatments .these tips can help you feel better -- starting right now. 1. Get in a routine. If you’re depressed, you need a routine depression can strip away the structure from your life. One day melts into the next. Setting a gentle daily schedule can help you get back on track. 2. When you're depressed, you may feel like you can't accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself. "Start very small,” "Make your goal something that you can succeed at, like doing the dishes every other day. As you start to feel better, you can add more challenging daily goals. 3. Exercise- It temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people. Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself in positive ways. How much exercise do you need? You don’t need to run marathons to get a benefit. Just walking a few times a week can help. 4. Eat healthy. There is no magic / special; diet that corrects depression. It's a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. Although nothing is definitive, there’s evidence that foods with omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish) and folic acid (such as spinach) could help ease depression. 5. Get enough sleep. Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep and can make depression worse. What can you do? Start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom -- no computer and no TV. In time, you may find your sleep improves. 6. Take on responsibilities. When you’re depressed, you may want to pull back from life and give up your responsibilities at home and at work. Staying involved and having daily responsibilities can work as a natural depression treatment. They ground you and give you a sense of accomplishment. If you're not up to full-time school or work, that’s fine. Think about part-time. If that seems like too much, consider volunteer work. 7. Challenge negative thoughts. In your fight against depression, a lot of the work is mental -- changing how you think. When you're depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. You might feel like no one likes you, but is there real evidence for that? You might feel like the most worthless person on the planet, but is that really likely? It takes practice, but in time you can beat back those negative thoughts before they get out of control. 8. Check with your doctor before using supplements. "There's promising evidence for certain supplements for depression, Those include fish oil, folic acid. Always check with your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you’re already taking medications 9. Do something new. When you’re depressed, you’re in a rut. Push yourself to do something different. Go to a museum. Pick up a used book and read it on a park bench. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Take a language class. "When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain, "Trying something new alters the levels of [the brain chemical] dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning. 10. Try to have fun. If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? "That's just a symptom of depression, You have to keep trying anyway. As strange as it might sound, you have to work at having fun. Plan things you used to enjoy, even if they feel like a chore. Keep going to the movies. Keep going out with friends for dinner. When you're depressed, you can lose the knack for enjoying life, you have to relearn how to do it. In time, fun things really will feel fun again.

Dear , masturbation is natural and almost every person masturbates. Masturbation in moderation is healthy and is a stress buster. At your age you can masturbate thrice in a week or alternate days. No harm at all. Don't be apprehensive about its after effects. Just enjoy. Take care.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Best age to stop smoking is before 40 ,In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. Fortunately, almost all the damage by smoking can be reversed, if and when you stop and take measures to lead a healthy life of exercise, diet and rest. It is difficult to quantify the extent of damage but effects could be felt in your stamina, skin wrinkling, lung capacity, heart strain, eye damage, sexual erectile capacity, tooth decay and tartar buildup, foul breath, damage to the celia lining your throat, brain cells, and for some people the early stages of cancer promoting conditions, and a host of other problems. You are advised to stop immediately and abruptly.

Dear lybrate user. There is nothing to be irritated about. For you also parents come first. Don't take these things as emotional. For everyone parents come first and they want to return their love they received during their childhood. There is nothing wrong in that and you should understand your husband in this matter. But, your husband should also understand your feelings and give you wholehearted support. I wish to give counseling to your husband in this matter if you and your husband are willing. Take care.

Hello I am 26 year ,male, unmarried, non smoker and non alcoholic I have problem of getting blank during exam. My mind is getting slow. Please help me. This is serious problem for me. Thankyou.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
I don't know for how long you have ben having this problem, and if you are still studying I must assume you are doing some professional course. So, if it is of recent origin, you can easily locate the why this problem began: it will have to do with some fear related event. If it is or past origins, then you should meet with a counselor and sort out the unresolved childhood experience, again having a lot to do with fear. This fear, for some unknown reason, is causing you to react in panic. It is apparently so frightful that you shut down your senses and go blank. It may not at all be of any serious consequence but you are reacting like it is one. A good education on emotions and how to deal with them will go a long way to come out of this adaptation. In the meantime, good aerobic exercise, proper sleep, healthy diet, and stress-free lifestyle will help you deal with these developments with strength.

Factors That Can Cause Social Anxiety!

Factors That Can Cause Social Anxiety!

Social anxiety disorder is a chronic mental health condition in which a person has excessive and unreasonable fear of certain social situations. Anxiety and self-consciousness arise from a fear of being scrutinized, embarrassed or judged by others. The fear may be made worse by a lack of social skills or experience in social situations. This persistent anxiety can build into a panic attack, and the affected person may start avoiding social situations under extreme distress. People with social anxiety disorder also suffer anticipatory anxiety, which is the fear of a situation even before it happens. In many cases, the person is aware that the fear is unreasonable and overblown, yet is unable to overcome it.

Like many other mental health conditions, social anxiety disorder arises from a complex interaction of environment and genes. The possible causes are:

  1. Inherited traits - Genetic factors may contribute to the development of social anxiety disorder if it is present in a first-degree relative (parents, siblings or child).
  2. Brain structure - Nuclei shaped part of the brain called amygdala may play a role in controlling the fear response. People with overactive amygdala may have a heightened fear response, increasing anxiety in social situations.
  3. Environmental factors - Social anxiety disorder may be a learned behavior. You may develop the condition after witnessing the anxious behavior of others. Also, there may be an association between social anxiety disorder and overprotective parents wanting to control their children.

Social anxiety disorder is the second most common type of anxiety disorder, which most often surfaces in adolescence or early adulthood. It is more common in women than in men. There is no way to predict what will cause social anxiety disorder, but some steps can be taken to reduce the impact of symptoms by getting help early instead of delaying, managing stress in daily life and avoiding unhealthy substances like alcohol, drugs and caffeine.

I am 44 male, after my schooling, I started smoking. Initially I started with 4,5 puffs from friends cigarette, it slowly gain and I reached, 4,5 packs, 40-50 cigarettes a day, got bronchitis within 5 or so years. Got treated, dropped my cigarette intake to 80-90 %. Started Guthka that time the cheap one available, like 'Tirangaa' and'555' (brand names ), and I still take it but now the expensive one. Due to some domestic problem in my family, I found some dark and ugly ways to avoid those of my haunting 24*7*365*15 (read, hour, week, year and 15 years) I took to heavy drinking and drugging. I kept drinking for 6 years approx, so much that my hands started to shake if alcohol not consumed. Somehow somehow somehow I shunned drinking, and drugging, after 6 years of heavy uses. But now, from last one year I started to take drugs again in the form of a cough suppressant named'Corex'which I usually consume 100 ml * 3 times a day. I want to overcome it as soon as possible. These things has immensely impacted my married and sexual relationship with my wife. My history is above, treatment needed is, how can I wipe out all the bad effects and side effects already running in my biological systems? Sorry for such a long question, but I couldn't explain it in short. Thanking you.

You certainly have a very addictive personality i.e all the ingredients to make you prone to addiction. That also means that if you give up one form of addiction, you could easily take up another: this is called cross addictions. Much of the damage to your body could be reversed, except brain damage, if you quit all the habits once and for all. This will obviously depend on the extent of damage in some cases where it will become irreversible. A thorough medical and psychiatric evaluation are recommended. You have, underlying all this, a strong hamartic or self-destructive drive which needs to be analysed from a script perspective. Ideally, you should get admitted to a rehabilitation center and genuine and good therapy should help you identify the deep-rooted drives and then you can work on them to deal with the underlying issues to sort your addiction problem. There is some pain, oral issue, rigid value system and, as mentioned above, a script issue to deal with eventually.
