If you have been continuing medications unaltered for last 20 years it is rather difficult to quit them at once. I hope you have been taking them under the supervision of a psychiatrist. If not, then I am afraid you might have become dependent on these medications. It is advisable that you consult your treating physician or a psychiatrist to consider weaning off these medicines after a detailed evaluation of your present status and symptoms.

Nothing is particular cause for stammering, you consult doctor to get medicine but also consult the speech therapist and evaluate your stammering then take continues speech therapy, slow your rate of speech whenever you talking someone, take a small breath to start the words, practice the relaxation and breathing exercises at home. Less your nervousness and freely mixed with your friend but you must take speech therapy, after speech therapy it will be curable.

I am smoking a lot how can I get the nicotine out or what should I use to remove the nicotine form my body.

Just stop smoking and nicotine will gradually leave your system. There are some people who are on a reactive mode and will quit only after they have got a disease or reach the worst condition in their abuse. In addiction parlance this is called ‘Hitting Rock Bottom’, that is, you will cease the abuse only when you have suffered the worst affect of the substance. Sometimes that stage may be a terminal stage and there is no turning back: it has become too late. You must live by the adage that ‘Prevention is better than cure’. To quit do the following: When quitting, you must take one day at a time. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

1. Alternative to smoking - For those who find hard to quit smoking can replace this smoke and tobacco free device with the traditional cigarettes and can reduce the intake of smoke or tobacco to minimal.

How to increase concentration power, as I can not concentrate more than 2 minutes.

You are probably under some form of stress. The migraine headaches indicate that as well as that there could be reasons for the stress to stem from unexpressed anger. Are you aware of any such feeling pending expression in your life when you look back to even childhood? You could discuss these matters with a counselor and see if together you can both identify the reasons for the stress. Apart from that you can do some of the following to improve memory and concentration. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, broccoli, blueberries, fish, coconut oil, wheat sprouts, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling.

I am suffering from lot of gas problem. Every morning while waking up I get gas. Than after lunch till night. Whatever I eat I get burping, gas. I'm working in IT industry, due to this gas problem I unable to concentrate on work, its very discomfort. Please say what to do for this.

Avoid outside spicy and fried food. Walk about 3-5 kms daily. There should be gap of 2hrs after dinner and sleep. Small and frequent meals is of help. Keep your blood sugar controlled. Raise your bed about 4" from headend side. Get your gastroendoscopy done. Tab nexpro-l 1 tab empty stomach. Consult doctor.

Hello sir. I have a query related to my mental issue. As doctors says I am suffering from ocd problem from last 2 yrs. There is no positive results are coming. There are 15 doctors treated me. And all are well experienced. So I am finally hopeless. Approx 14 hours I am sleeping in 24 hours. Because if I don't do this I just can't control my self. And there is no such thoughts are coming in my mind which are related to ocd. But it is true my problem was started with an word like- I wanted to forgot something and for this I was started to many things. And finally I have gone in very deep. But at this time I am not doing something for this but my illusion-"i have problem" are not going. Please answer me that is it any mental issues of human being are there that can't be treat.

I am sure you are one the many people who have not combined medication with therapy. You absolutely need this and so you must return to medication and counseling. OCD can be easily explained away by too obvious a cause like you mention but it is more complicated. However, the bottom line of OCD is fear. Some deep-rooted fear that has not been handled properly is causing this reaction in you. Normally, when one type of medication does not work within 8 weeks, another is resorted to. Nothing is, therefore, hopeless unless you yourself give up. This si where counseling comes in very handy: it will help you stay motivated and keeps the desire going too. There may be some childhood trauma or setting where this fear has found itself and since it has not been resolved it will continue to plague you like this. Deal with the fear and you will have some relief, if not complete​ recovery.

Hi lybrate-user, you have to stop caring about what people feel about you. Im sure there are people who like you even love you and are there in need of help. Do not dwell on negative and ignore the positive things in life. There are things bigger than outward beauty, the real people will like you for your inner self not brightness on your face. We all are flawed in some or the other way but if we do not accept ourselves and do self love how can we expect love from others? we need to respect ourselves to gain respect of others. You should be upset or stressed as you are already taking treatment and it will take time. If it happens good even if it doesn't you should not feel less about yourself. Concentrate on work and building up a career be surrounded with positive people and you will start counting your blessings soon.

I am 48 years old, married almost 18 years running but always I found do not match with my thinking/ feelings/emotions etc with my wife and for anything frequently have conflicts with my wife. Myself is basically self employed with engineering degree holder whereas my wife is only 12th class passed. She is not at all practical in the line of day to day activities/livelihood/lifestyle etc. Therefor after day long my working activities whenever returns to my home find no co-operation from her even she do not have any interest about my profession/my life and many more. Therefore I always find depressed in my day to day activities and find do not peace at all since beginning of my married life. I become helpless and find none to share my situation. Please suggest me.

While compulsions involved are like counting, repeated checking, avoidance behaviors. 5 Ways to Stay Busy to Avoid Sadness!

An idle mind is a devil’s workshop. When there is too much time on your hands with nothing to do, you end up thinking about things which are not going well, leading to depression. Come to think of it, if there is nothing that you can do to improve it, there is no point wasting time over it. On the other hand, if there is something to improve the situation, just go ahead and do it, so everybody involved is happy. However, if there are too many other factors which are beyond control, then you need to see how to change your outlook towards it.

One such effective way is to keep yourself busy and distract yourself from it. The following are some simple measures, which can be very effective in dealing with stress.

  1. Sleep it off: One of the main reasons for depression is the physical exhaustion and lack of good rest. So, it is good once in a while to just sleep it off and give your body the much deserved rest. This gives the brain a chance to begin to heal and feel better.
  2. Clean up the house: The home or the space you enter into indirectly indicates your state of mind. A clean home and workspace means that much less clutter in the brain. Clean out the closet, give away your old stuff, and in the process, you would end up feeling good about having helped somebody. You will also realize how much excess stuff you have collected over the years. Stacked up in the attic and cartons, these were meant for use on “some fine day”, which never seemed to arrive.
  3. Exercise: Force yourself to exercise. While initially it would be an ordeal, gradually you will enjoy it. Exercise also releases chemicals in the brain, which make you feel good about yourself. In addition, the physical benefits will start to show up, leaving you feeling elated and in a chirpier mood.
  4. Travel: When you go solo traveling, the amount of time you spend with yourself just increases. The changed surroundings will help you understand yourself better and come to terms with things that can be under your control. You learn to let go of things and come to terms with life. If time and money are limitations, go out and explore places in your own surrounding city or town. You will realize how little you know the city or town you live in.
  5. Hobbies: Whether it is learning to play guitar or speak Spanish, pick something that you have always wanted to do over the years and work at it. You will see the depression vanish in no time. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Psychologist.

Strategies for Remembering 1. Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2. Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3. Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical.. 4. Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5. When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6. Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7. Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

DEAR Lybrate USER. This problem is due to irritation and inadequate nutrition of the brain. So follow few basic things . 1) drink only 100-150 ml of lukewarm water during meals 2) don’t drink water one hour before meals and one hour after meal 3) avoid oily, spicy, salty, junk, fast, fermented and stale foods. 4) avoid coffee and tea 5) try to sleep upto 10.30 pm 6) do anuloma viloma pranayam regularly early in the morning. A) eat 1 TSF of BLACK CUMIN SEEDS along with 1 TSF of jiggery after meals. B) take 60 ml of AUDUMBARAVLEHA along with 10 ml of honey early in the morning and at night before sleep. C) take 2 tablets of MAHALAXMIVILAS RASA along with AUDUMBARAVLEHA at night before sleep D) instill 3-4 drops of CHANDANADI TAILA in each nostril at the time of sleeping Do all these things for 15 days. It gives you good result.
